Ok. That's it. I'm cutting you off. Five is your limit.

I think I mentioned this one awhile back, but: Project Hail Mary
Honestly, I'd give you a synopsis of what it's about, but not knowing what it's about is kind of the point. The main character wakes up with amnesia, and has to piece together what happened, where he is, and why he's there, and it comes back to him in bits and pieces throughout the entire book, each one taking you deeper down the rabbit hole.
But the characters in it are absolutely adorable. They have just the best -- let's call it bromance, for lack of a better word and without going into spoiler territory. And you get to watch these absolute science nerds just science the shit out of their situation in plausible ways.
Seriously, you should read it. It's fun as hell.

@Derp I had some "Forbidden" errors pop up when I tried to submit posts in multiple threads (including in 'Readers' and 'Mildly Constructive').
When I refreshed the tab a few times and pasted the same post a few more, it finally let the post go through.
Yeah it’s probably a session mismatch since the ux stuff is somewhat different. I recommend clearing cookies and doing a hard refresh. It happened to me a few times too.
For those interested, there is another MU-related forum, mostly populated by current and former posters of MSB. It's called Brand MU Day. The link to it is here:
https://brandmuday.mythicus.net
Currently, it is run by a handful of familiar faces. Tinuviel, Tez, and Pyrephox.
I strongly encourage those unhappy with the current state of MSB to go check that community out. It may be more to your liking. Or you can continue to post on both, provided that you're on board with the new rules and are working to help us build something cool. Nobody's getting a black mark here just because they have an account over there.
I'm sure that someone will read this as vaguely threatening, but honestly? I think it's a good thing. People have a place where they can go be around like-minded people on both forums, and plenty of folks in the middle that get along with everyone. And hopefully, the existence of an alternative will cut down on some of the friction that keeps cropping up by trying to keep two very different groups of people interacting in the same space.
So. NodeBB 2.0. There are bound to be some weird things happening, either with plugins or something else. This is the place to put them. Find something broken? Find something cool? Plaster it here and we'll try to work through it together.

Short king!
I've always tended to think of appearance and striking looks and stuff as an average. Like the vast majority of the world will respond this way.
Doesn't necessarily mean that you will. It just gives them more dice for certain things.
YMMV.
I try to strike a balance somewhere between the extremes of 'do whatever' and 'on rails'.
Let's call it Guardrails.
Usually this is relatively easy to accomplish. I'm a big fan of starting things in media res. This has a couple of benefits:
We assume that your characters are smart enough to get through the tedious research part and get to the part they should be focused on unless the research / investigation is really tension-y for some reason.
There is a vastly reduced risk that someone is going to just go off and do whatever thing they want to do if they're already being confronted with the situation.
Example
Player: I want to use research to see if I can dig up any information on Jimmy the Crime Guy.
Standard Way: Great! How are you doing that?
Player: I'm going to go out and divine for patterns in the flights of birds to read the omens and figure out which street corner record scratch
My Way: All of Jimmy the Crime Guy's top lieutenants are fairly untouchable. There's almost no way you're going to get information out of them without spetnaz tactics, and whoever keeps Jimmy's name out of the papers and off of police reports did a really thorough job. Fortunately for you, Jimmy's accountant is a little slip of a man with a nervous disposition that looks like he jumps at his own shadow, and even his shadow thinks it's a little excessive. Which is why you're in a car, outside of his office, with a fast food bag in the passenger seat and rapidly cooling coffee in the center console. The night's already off to a great start...

It sounds like someone was goofing around with sheets.
It wasn't. It's a very long story but the TL;DR is that there were a series of unrelated events that occurred in a sequence that caused some red flags, but it was quickly found to be a non-issue. No bad guys this time.
@ganymede said in Single sphere WoD?:
Okay. If you change your mind, I have some free time now to write a nice, complete setting.
Sliiiiiiides up.
Tell me more.
I feel pretty safe that the answer to this question is 'no'. Though I would love to be shown wrong.
Anyone?
Bueller?
This all takes place inside the Discord app, which is the issue. There's no whisking off to other sites and such, which would be a fairly obvious red flag. It asks you to make use of tools that you otherwise use in Discord all the time, inside the Discord environment, so is fairly cleverly disguised.

This sort of uninformed fearmongering doesn't really help anyone.
"Uninformed fearmongering?"
It literally happened to a bunch of us today, so it's not "uninformed fearmongering."
Also remember what part of the forum you're in.

@derp Luke? No. Leia was, but that's because she was adopted by royalty.
Yyyyeah but their mom was a queen, and then went on to be a galactic senator.
Right?
@lotherio said in How do you discover books?:
Luke Skywalker doesn't count because even though he's an orphan that leanrs a style of teaching (jedi), he's not quite humble?
Isn't he technically royalty?
@reimesu said in Of Dreams and Nightmares:
Admittedly, I have lived in Oklahoma and I can attest that being in the Midwest would be a hell of a nightmare for me.
The Rockies make an excellent werewolf setting.
There's a whole book about it.
Just saying.
Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry for your loss.
I think at this point what I expect (demand?) from book adaptations is very simple: Love the original work. Try to put that on the screen.
I disagree with this premise. If you want to relive the story from the books, then you should read the books. Every video adaptation of a story that doesn't have a LOTR budget has to make allowances and changes to fit the story into the narrative that you have.
Frankly, Wheel of Time would have been hella boring if they had stuck to the original source material. It was a whole bunch of scared dumb kids being scared and dumb, and their mentor figure being distant and unhelpful while they all contemplated the up-to-that-point largely theoretical prophecy and what they might be able to do with their fledgling powers until you get to the end of the thing, each of them lost in their own heads and generally just being judgmental and catty of everyone around them.
If you're going to have to tell a different story based on the medium, you might as well tell a fresh and interesting take on it. Also, there is absolutely nothing to say that this isn't just a different turning of the wheel, especially since
***Book spoilers ohnoes.***
I know that I discussed that theory at length with @Devrex when I finished the books and was left a little 'what the actual f*ck' at the end of it. The show did way better for me.
