Lol, I could see that being cool, though I could also see someone else playing Raistlin, too. Even in the books, before the incident in the TOHS and all the confusing time-things that happened with that, Raistlin and Caramon were described as looking very different, so I imagine that they were fraternal twins.

@Derp I was so excited for that movie. Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends make up 6 of my favorite fantasy novels. The movie had everything going for it; great setting, great story, great cast. Yet they still managed to muck it up horribly.
Well, you may be happy (or not) to know that supposedly Joe Manganiello is working on a script for Dragons of Autumn Twilight. I could see him as Caramon.

TRIPLE POST!
Worst, most painful movie I can remember voluntarily watching all the way through?
The Dragonlance animated movie thing.

Both about a He-Man movie and Noah Centineo being cast as the lead.
Hey, people had doubts about Momoa as Aqua-Man too.

RomComs are just outright awful.
You could have just gone with this and it would have been perfect.

You just ask someone. Most people understand this problem, as most people are good with faces and absolute crap at names. They usually have pity, and someone will know.

I don't want to roleplay it. Why does it have to happen on screen?
Because it's not just about you. The proverbial you.
You might not find it fun, but it has the ability to cheapen the story for the other players involved of you just nope out of everything you don't find personally compelling with no qualifications.
Look at it from the other direction. I play an admiral. You are getting promoted to captain. It's something you've worked hard for, something you want your friends to share.
But I say 'nah, I don't wanna RP your promotion scene, we are just gonna have it happen off-screen'.
I have now robbed you and other players of something they feel is important because I find it boring or whatever.
And that's a pretty dick move. Because it's not just about me. It's about all of them.
Turn it back around, that captain that wants to be known for running a tight ship should be able to chew out the jerkass on screen whether the jerkass finds it compelling or not, because they brought that on themselves.
Unless it is something that comes with a red flag, you shouldn't be able to nope out just because you happen to want to do something else. Shared games. Shared stories. This requires thinking beyond your own fun.

I think @Derp especially is over-reacting, though I don't natively disagree with his point. The text we're reading is meant for tabletop, and for tabletop I largely agree with it.
FOR TABLETOP.How am I over-reacting when I specifically said:
@Derp said in Consent in Gaming:
Yeah, I don't agree with some of that in the context of a MU.
Emphasis mine. I know that it was written for tabletop. I called it out for being a bad translation to MU.
Like you did.

RE: Consent in Gaming
skims. makes a face
Yeah, I don't agree with some of that in the context of a MU. Especially the parts where it essentially seems to imply that I have some manner of duty to ensure the mental health and well-being of someone else.
No, I don't. And I know for a fact that I am not the only person in this hobby that has expressed that opinion before. "I am not here to be your therapist" was a rallying cry not even a year ago, and now we're presented with material that says we're essentially responsible for making sure that others can handle stories?
Nope. I am not opening that door. I mentioned in another thread that if players don't like the content of something, they have the option of removing themselves from it. The game should give clear enough guidelines on what's about to come down the pipe, and players can decide for themselves whether that's something that they're cool with.
I am absolutely not going to chase down players and make sure that they're ok after the fact when they have given their agreement to continue in the story by continuing in the story and not saying anything to the contrary, because that opens a ton of doors that lead to uncomfortable places and dependencies and strange, weird relationships that we've been decrying for a decade or more.
You are responsible for you. Period. I'm responsible for making sure you know what's there. How you handle that is not on me.

Also, there's always the option of a player establishing their own, rival business.
This sounds all well and good until every single PC wants to run their own.
Learn from WoD games. Don't let them all have nightclub brothel apartments.

Theme might eventually get there in season 3 for the show or after a certain point due to RP on a game, but that's a separate conversation - and essentially a different game.
I think the problem is that too many people expect to say one thing, or have one scene, and suddenly a GRAND REVELATION happens and everything changes, social progress is made, tada.
And if it doesn't they get the fires of their rage fueled and start talking about OOC biases and whatnot, until it becomes a wholly different problem. And then what do you do? Show them the door and wait for the ranting about how there's discrimination and everyone is a bigot? Or give it and change the theme of your entire game to suit them?

@Ghost said in Carnival Row:
There's a lot of "Racism isn't fun, oppression isnt fun, I want my game experience to be fun", and I dont think that you can have Carnival Row be Carnival Row without some of these elements.
Then they can play in a different game in a different setting where those elements don't exist. Why would they be interested in this setting in the first place if they find those things so offensive? It seems like they'd be put off by the IP in general.
Protip: If you want to have fun on a game where there are elements that you find distasteful, don't play on that game, or learn to ignore those elements. It's very unlikely that the entirety of the game is going to change to suit your social mores.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
I still vote for a gritty, real Dark Sun where the stakes are high and people don't try to whitewash the parts of it that are meant to demonstrate how savage and desperate the world is.

@mietze said in MU*, Youth, and LGBT+ Identity:
More broadly, we do have this discussion pop up frequently around racism/homophobia in particular and "historic era" or "history era inspired" mushes too. That's an often uncomfortable one to negotiate too, but again eventually the staff or gamerunner are going to pick the parameters and they may be realistic in some ways but not in others, and the players are just going to have to deal with it or not play there.
I mean, this crops up in fantasy too. Dark Sun, for example. It's one of my favorite DnD campaign settings. Very low magic, very harsh conditions, very survival oriented Mad Max style.
Also, it has a shitload of slavery and genocide and persecution in general.
People tend to get their hackles up about that one. But you take those out and you're no longer playing Dark Sun, because those things are as integral to the setting as interpersonal conflict is to Mad Max.
Sometimes, you can't win 'em all.
