Why not set it before the bombs? In the pseudo 50s turmoil of a true Cold War? You'll have China advancing in Alaska and the beginnings of the Texas Independence.

@arkandel Marvel's already broken that mold somewhat with the Henry Pym/Scott Lang in Ant-Man, I had assumed.

After the battle of Anchorage and the annexation of Canada through force by the United States, there was a heavy Canadian resistance. Not sure if the Canadians would have sided with China, but they may have adapted tech from both the US and China to make their own.

Also, would Great Britian have sent supplies/troops/spies into Canada to help or hinder the resistance, considering both the US relationship and that Canada is/was a colony.
