RE: 2022: A New Year, New Dead Celebrities
I'm only sorry to hear this because we will now be subject to an unending stream of "what's next for the monarchy?!?" when we should be paying attention to our candidates for office.
Or sportsball.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
But there's more to that quote, right? It's from pp. 325-326 from QotD, according to my search. And in that, Lestat points out that the entire sexual or sensual experience is still extremely pleasurable.
I mean, sure, banging is pointless, but the quote itself states that the organ was "poised as if ready for what it would never again know how to do or want to do[.]" My take is that Lestat is aware that his penis won't impregnate someone again, but he's still staring at the fact that it was "poised" and ready to go. This seems supported by the reference to Priapus, a Greek / Turkish god of fertility.
That said, I'm with you about being hesitant.

In the (laughably unlikely) event that someone were to make a show/movie today set in that world, it would be asinine to argue that all the main chars should be white just because that's how the book describes them. We can be better than that.
We probably should, and this is more or less where I come down.
To be fair, GRRM is probably one of the more open authors when it comes to suggestions of improving his creation. I don't mind him one bit. He's far more fair-minded than, oh, Alan Moore (that guy is fucking crazy). That doesn't mean his creation isn't implicitly racist or, said another way, race-blind. It certainly does not mean that he should be free from criticism either, and to his credit I think he has faced that criticism well.
Executing on that world vision is a matter of the moment. I am fine with the way HotD has been portrayed, along with Amazon's Rings of Power. I like injecting more diversity into source material because it makes that material richer and takes nothing away from the value of the material itself. People toss the word "woke" like it's an epithet, I find it incredibly laughable.
@Nymeria said in MUers in the news?:
And we haven't said that. We've said you'd need to find a way of fitting in a character from outside of Westeros.
Or you could offer explanations for potential players that make sense for your world. The choice is yours, but you could help applicants instead of asking them to be mind-readers.

I haven't said that we don't?
I admit I got the wrong impression when you wrote:
"We've said you'd need to find a way of fitting in a character from outside of Westeros."
I took that to mean that the onus is on the player to figure things out for themselves.
My bad.

How does the Legend of the Five Rings setting handle this topic, in its sources, and in online play?
I really don't like playing the "what about?" game in an honest discussion, but the game doesn't really mention anything about racial makeup. That said, William Adams, aka Miura Anjin, and Yasuke effectively eliminate any argument about non-ethnic-East-Asian folks not having a place in a setting like Rokugan.

At the risk of sounding derogatory, the reality is that if you're upset with your Big Mac, you'll get better results talking to the manager than you would screaming at the fry cooks.
Yes, but we're not yelling at fry cooks; we're yelling against racist takes.

To add: the largest armada ever created was Chinese, led by Zheng He, a Muslim eunuch.
So, yeah, so much for European naval supremacy.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I have come down with an awful case of people demanding that I fix the shitty situations they created immediately.
It’s exhausting too.

I can always check, I know i dont have Aflac but there might be a safety net I've missed. Thank you for the advice!
No problem. I'm guessing based on your comments that you live in Washington, and so you get 12 weeks of PFML. Since that's a state benefit, you also may have FMLA leave, which is another 12 weeks. So, I'm guessing you've taken 24 weeks off, which would put you around the 6-month mark for leave.
STD benefits usually last for up to 6 months. After that, you may qualify for LTD. If you have a life insurance policy, a lot of such insurers offer STD and LTD benefits for you and, if you're an employer, the business.

RE: Random As...
I still play.
RPing is easy to do when you're a desk jockey. I'm more of a desk jockey than ever these days, and folks are much more tolerant of work interruptions too. So, I tend to RP, when I RP, during the work day.
In the evenings? I maybe RP one or two nights a week, and even then I restrict myself to between 2100 and 2359. I watch sports highlights and TV while I'm doing it.
I actually spend far more time on landscaping projects, watching movies with my kids, and karaoking.

Of course in an ideal world they "should" take the initiative of solving the problem themselves, but there can be many factors - shame, anxious avoidance, fear of reprisal, overwhelm paralysis, just to name a few - that may make it difficult for someone to reach out for help.
As the parent of a ND person, I do remind them that others won't know their needs unless they speak up. Thankfully, they do. Sometimes, in inappropriate loud ways, but, hey, they are young, and they've got some time.

So not Mass Effect.
No. I can't figure out how to twist FS3 to simulate its combat, and it seems a lot easier for me to suggest tweaking some of BSG:U's code to represent giant robots and shit.
Plus, I like the idea of writing my own fiction for it.
And I intend to coerce Faraday into helping me.
So.

Sure I can leave the game, but to me that means they win, and while that might be the end result, I would prefer to avoid it.
In this negotiation, they have nothing to lose and you have everything to gain. There is no victory to be had here.

I wish my bosses were cool enough to let me use Spotify while researching.
I would be so much more enthusiastic about reading words dead people wrote. Jealous.
My bosses like me using YouTube for my music that I've actually shown them how to pull up Billboard Top 20 Playlists on their own computers, so they can rock and roll to classics from the 60s.
That said, and more on point, I like what @faraday's done with Ares. I don't use her web interface out of habit. If I were forced to use Ares' web portal, I would probably do so if everyone else in my cadre of player-friends did the same. If they all left because of the mandate, I might as well.
I'm not a Luddite, but I am someone who'll follow a trend, whether it's backwards or not, if the people I'm playing with are doing the same.

RE: What Would it Take to Repair the Community?
I don't mean to be flippant or nonchalant, but you are looking for answers which have plagued every community or group since forever.
I remember when we had a huge discussion back five years ago as to whether we should remove the Hog Pit. Discussions were hot and heated back then -- very much so. Warnings were thrown up, and when staff believed that nothing more constructive would come, the discussion ended. After that, activity was tepid until members were comfortable with how and where to engage based on the policies that came out of it.
It takes time and patience, and letting people choose from available options what is best for them.

Insidious.
Ironically, the first remains the best.
Like Sinister, which is a far better movie.
