@Clarion said in Water finds a crack:

I don't have the same kind of time to roleplay that I used to, and it's freeing to play a game where there's no optimization rabbit hole to fall down. There are no daily tasks to hit, nothing to grind, and I can just log in and play when I want to play. I don't worry that I'm missing out on code rewards for stuff I don't actually want to do.

This is why I like Ares.

@Pyrephox said in Water finds a crack:

So, like, if you have a mechanism where someone can Do Something to earn XP, or Arx-like resources, or Luck Points, you can only gain so many in a single time period, and once you hit that limit, there is NO NEED to grind any further, and you can be assured that no one else is somehow getting 'more' by doing more.

This is why I like Arx.

My opinion: I like something to do that is productive but does not require engagement with others, and Arx provides that in spades. When I do engage, I like having a tangible reward too, so long as it is available to all, up to a limit.

It should not take 1.5 hours to consider a fucking application for a zoning change, what the fuck.

This is why reasonable professionals do not get involved in this shit, I guess.

What a fucking waste of time; I'm drinking now, thank you remote meeting.

(Edit: I'm two bourbons in now.)

I also like the GMT-ers because I play first-shift EST now. That is, when work isn't eating me alive.

If you want to delve into another area, maybe I can help you get into that field from afar.

See, and I hate the Doors thing GMC introduced. Hate. It. I would rather completely fuck over my character by having them immediately and unequivocally agree to whatever the Social Mogul wants than be subjected to the torture of the GMC Social system.

      Why do you hate it?

As described, it seems like a good system for an ST to employ to coerce NPCs. Which is what I think it was calculated to do.

I agree that it's not a bad system. The problem with it is that it requires an audience. It's a political debate between two people wherein there are spectators involved, which works great for things like Elysium, but not so great when you just need to convince a person to do a thing and there aren't a hundred people around to witness it. Doors, on the other hand, work in both situations, which makes them slightly better, IMO.

Yeah, but the Impression limitation makes it so engh for a MU*.

I generally stick to the old "Roll Manipulation + Persuasion" method, myself.

The setting is so big and vast that trying to make wiki pages for everything would quickly become overwhelming. Where do you draw the line on the etc?

Hey, you choose fruit, you live with fruit.

I concur with karmabum, but I sympathize with the plight. When crafting together the wiki for my Mass Effect game that never got off the ground, I struggled with the same issue. But I think keeping everything in one spot is good because, if I'm not mistaken, you can link things in the Ares output window to the wiki you have, which allows a player to quickly jump to an important reference.

There are millions of parents in this same boat. To say nothing of the other millions of people with chronic fatigue, depression, mobility issues, or a whole host other physical and mental challenges that might turn "push the shopping cart an extra 5 yards" into a monumental challenge.

Anything involving children sounds like a "dire emergency" to me, to say nothing of the situations above which all scream of "people are differently abled."

But this does not stop me from kicking the shin of my friend for not returning her cart because I know that bitch doesn't have an excuse.

@Ganymede Social combat is just as valid as physical combat.

I totally agree. But I also believe that the rolls presented for the system are valid, if the players accept the system. In fact, I think any method of resolution is acceptable, if the players accept it.

The key word is: acceptance. The problem is: most players don't accept what happens to them.

That, and the Doors system seems unnecessarily complicated given that there's a perfectly-viable, single-roll system available.

A friend of mine posed the following retort:

The true metric is not with the person who used the cart, but the person who sees the cart in the parking lot. Who left the cart there? Why did they not return it? These are pointless questions: the real question is whether you will return it for them.

      So where's the beef?

As a PC who does enjoy to run scenes, I abhor doing so for badass Mages, killer Hunters, ninja Werewolves, or the combo of things that I've found a-plenty-of on The Reach. I'd much rather play on a different game, and you might not.

@ominous said in Tell me what you want -- work edition:

Companies that try to "have fun" are so hollow and annoying.

While you can't force your workers to have fun at work, as a boss I try to make work as fun as possible. If work is not fun? I don't like doing it. So, I can understand that, if work is not fun, people may be looking for a job which is fun to them.

But, as you said, you can't force people to do that. Some people like to treat their job as just that. And bosses should let them and not hold that against them. However, there is a substantial amount of people who want their job to feel less like work and more like fun, so if there's anything I can do to do that, I'mma gonna do it.

      Exo Squad is back.

You can watch the entire 52-episode series on Peacock. For free.

This show got so shafted in the early 90s, but you really ought to watch it for the story.

My partner stands by that show. I like Matthew Goode generally, but Teresa Palmer sticks out as a Kristen Stewart substitute in this vampire series.

As for The Sandman, the cast seems a step down from the Audible books.
