It never fails to amuse me how popular WoD MU*s are despite the WoD - Vampire, especially - being uniquely ill-suited for a MUSH.

Everyone keeps saying that, and Requiem for Kingsmouth serves as an example of how such a game can be tailored to a MU*.

I do not "get" roster systems. That is, I don't understand how a likely complete change of personality and experience when characters are swapped out aids the game more than it might hamper setting and consistency.

I think that's a little too restrictive and unnecessary. What I meant was a roster of needed concepts or occupations within the group and/or settlement.

I am sorry that this happened to you.

No matter how hard I try to be a good member of our management team, whatever credibility we have it seems gets undercut by other members who seem destined to act like the worst sort of boss you could imagine.

      @Coin and @Wizz

What about post-apoc zombie-land? I've discarded the idea of integrating Demon into the mix. The game would be sort of like The Walking Dead, although there'd probably be a crafting/resource mini-game where PCs that are set-up as crafters or developers can make or break the entire game.

I'm starting with Mortals. I'm debating how much Mortal+ to add to it. I looked at Hunter for more inspiration, and think that some Endowments could be made available. I thought people might be interested in starting as plain-Janes for Beta, and then "learning" Mortal+ stuff, if they want to, as they "explore" the world (via PRP or SRP).

I think because putting up an ad even for someone looking to play a ghoul will get you some pretty vile responses from would be regnants as well as a lot of derision in general.

Maybe. I don't generally play concepts that treat their ghouls as submissive sex toys, though.

@skew I'm the same way. I prefer my horror to be more fantastical because I don't need reminders of how awful the world already is. I've lived some of the worst of it.

You really ought not watch The Babadook, then.

Actually, you should, because it is a freaking awesome movie.

If you're working on a documentary, chances are that the purpose of the NDA is to prevent you from talking to others, particularly the media, about the content and release dates.

Pretty standard in the documentary industry, really.

    • RE: Rotating Theme

You can rotate theme without changing the setting, or forcing players to change their PCs. There are many themes to explore in "zombie apocalypse," as evidenced by the longevity of The Walking Dead.

I guess to clarify, like is there anything that would be considered unreasonable in a contract like that that wouldn't be immediately obvious?

Of course. Infinitely so. But if you follow the plain language of the contract, you should be okay.

Remember: you are not responsible for how others interpret the contract.

    • RE: DMs, GMs, STs: Do you fudge rolls?

      @skew said:

When you are controlling the story, NPCs, etc, do you fudge rolls?

It depends on the situation and the players, and the system.

I know that doesn't help, but remember that MU*ing, like gaming on a tabletop, is a collaborative effort. You have to know the expectations going in of the players. If they are the type that prefer story over mechanics, fudging would be fine if it helps the storyline move. If they are the type that prefer the mechanics, then stay hard on the rolls and don't fudge. Some systems are more forgiving (WoD) than others (Earthdawn) when it comes to good and bad rolling.

The hallmark of an experienced GM is in making these calls on the fly, but it does start with the situation, players, and system.

I just wish it didn't often come hand-in-hand with an overpowered self-insert protagonist and a slew of tropey conquests to fight over him.

I think this is what keeps me away from anime these days, honestly. I just don't get this, at all.

Which is a shame, I suppose, but I love older anime, like Macross and Perfect Blue.

I do not believe that a player should have the right to make ooc decisions for somebody else's PC.

I understand what you're saying. And, for the most part, I agree. But this statement -- this one -- really grabs my tits and twists them.

Situation: I make a ghoul for a PC, on the PC Player's request. And then, after a couple of weeks of good play, PC Player suddenly decides to tell my PC not to leave the house, and goes off to RP with other folks. Attempts to resolve the situation fail; OOCly, there's a stone-wall to my pages, my @mails, my impassioned on-channel pleas.

Suppose all of this is true, above.

The PC Player that asked me to make the ghoul? Has made an OOC decision that has screwed my PC. That decision is: (1) to avoid me; (2) to ignore me; and (3) to pretend I don't exist. And yet, I have to be the one that takes steps with staff to correct the injustice.

      Horseshit.

But, I get it. In real life, it's really not appropriate to key your ex-lover's car when he decides to cheat -- fuck you, Carrie Underwood. You don't get the choice to fuck someone else over just because they did it to you. You should knuckle up, and do what is necessary.

But if I were staff and asked to make a decision on how to handle the situation, it would be to disintegrate that player's PC utterly, and then ban them. Because fuck you for making me step into this domestic-relations shit. If you can't be bothered to talk to people that you've fucked over, I'm not particularly interested in being "fair" to you. Eat in pari delicto and unclean hands and shit.

@warma-sheen said in The basketball thread:

I'm sure he would not be holding that trophy without a ton of injuries around the league.

If your team is affected by the fall of a single player, then it wasn't a great team to begin with.

Toronto wasn't a team build around Leonard when they won; it was extraordinarily deep. No one could have predicted the seasons that both Siakam and Van Vleet had that year. But when people tell me they wouldn't have won but for Durant's and Thompson's injuries, I simply respond: maybe Golden State shouldn't have relied so heavily on them, to the point where they got worn out.

And that's why load management, a deep bench, and great scouting can allow a team to win without a super-team.
