I don't read Sapkowski for his descriptions; I read for his speeches, which are brilliant.

You can have up to X number of characters, but only 1 can be active (earning XP/Prestige/GP/Resources) at any one time at 'normal' rate; your other alts earn at a fraction of what your active alt earns.

      This doesn't avert alt-conflicts.

I mean, sex with an animal sort of formed the basis of one of Canada's most famous novels.

But that's way beyond the scope of this thread.

Please take discussion on word etymology, thank you.

This thread is only for dead people and velociraptors.

(The conjunction in the sentence above is meant to be read disjunctively.)

      @bored

I can see from your synopsis the difficulty in what you were running.

I love Rokugan and L5R, but I think it is a hardcore adventure game that does not lend well to the social aspect of MUing.

I think that it might work with the sort of “archetype-episodic” structure of HorrorMU, but that takes a certain kind of player to work.

For me, honestly, the squick arises because I have seen the culture horridly botched. Too often. And it may be worse with the Super-Friends atmosphere that pervades some games.

I think the L5R system is awesome, but you would have to do a lot to avoid orientalism from the players.

I hear you. But it is not so easy to cut them out. So you have to have a robust, enforceable system. And if you don’t, you are killing the setting.

It’s baked in. That’s my point, if I had one.

If your character exists to be a social butterfly then there should be mechanics for those proficiencies.

      I agree with this.

The tough part isn't the social rolling, though. I don't know if FFG uses the Honor system, but if it does that is a whole other mess that requires staff/GM intervention constantly.

Courtiers are quite literally one-third of the entire game. You can't just write them out.

The downside is that you have to have a good player base to keep the correct cultural feel, but I kind of love the idea of being able to sit and sip tea, or talk mystical philosphy.. or travel be a horse-girl (because you know Unicorns are best! But then so are the Crane)

This is literally who and what I RP.

      This.

      Best storytelling ever.

So much the HBO is apparently dropping more per episode than on GoT.

      Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
