Also, I'll help keep players from fishing by telling them before they roll whether or not the roll is feasible.

For example, if a floating/levitating platform is 1000 feet up without wires or cables and they cant jump up and grab it, I'll let them know it's obvious that they'd need some way other than jumping to get up there.

      But why?

It's a good question, and you're not wrong.

I gave the example that I did because it's a good example of when the consent system on a statless game meets a failure of good staffing. I've never been a fan of it, myself, but there are often very well-worded policies about behavior, but the number of reasons why they may not be enforced ranges from "because they're a friend" to fear of mass exodus due to staff being firm. That's why this stuff happens, and you're 100% correct that a stateless, cooperation-based system should be as simple as that. In a lot of cases it works fine, but when it breaks and staff waffle about confronting players, ooooo it's rough.

Altogether though, I think the class of musher who prefers diceless all-consent games may be a slightly different creature than the one who is comfortable with stats and dice resolution.

This is why I personally like prefer dice-based superhero mush systems. At the end of the day, people can stop arguing about who has the bigger dick and simply break out the measuring tape. Some people just don't understand characters have flaws and they just parade power power power, and wireless resolution can mean for some players only not-winning when they choose to or are forced to.

Amazing. This is such condescending bullshit from supposed Mr. Community Positivity.

Oh. Hey. Is that a personal attack on a Mildly Constructive board thread?

I'm totally not comfortable with personal attacks on the Midly Constructive board, which states in its rules of engagement:

You can call out an idea for being stupid, but not the person who came up with it. Do not make this personal.

Would be totally awks if you were attacking the forum owner/moderator with a personal attack on a board where it explicitly states not to do that.

Watching someone who knows they are guilty of level 7 offenses against their own "friends" (airquotes) gripe and bitch and seek consolation as a victim because someone committed a level 2 offense against them.

It gets so hard not whistleblowing and throwing the whole thing into chaos as a point of ethics. Because fuck what people who do this feel.

@Auspice We get a lot of that where I live. "Dumb people drive slow in the rain".

Reality is we get so little rain per year that all that gas, oil, fluids, etc all build up on the roads dry, and then when the rain comes out some roads get slick. Presto oil-slicko.

You make a good point about lack of snow infrastructure. Not a lot of people think about dried-then-moist roads here, nor do they consider that cities that dont expect X dont invest in Y.

A legit tornado would royally fuck my town.

    • RE: What to do when your mush is attacked

Genesis uses CentOS5.9, so I'm going to assume the base console is CentOS6 or older. There's no really quick way of setting iptables up (in an "emergency") because it requires some analysis. To note, this wouldn't be something configured inside od the mush code, but on the CENTOS Linux VM that the game runs on. From what I see, the rented server space looks like a cloud VM instance, and it depends on the user agreement with the host how much you can modify that virtual machine.

    • RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)

@Rinel Personally, from what I've seen of your ethics/personality, V5 might actually be better a game for you than you know.

V5 has done away with defining what morality is. It's not the first vampire system to do it, but it encourages the group to determine x-card type content and then the moral tenets for the game itself. The group defines what face morality takes in the ongoing story, and then each character further defines their own morality.

It would be very easy to run a game/coterie (coterie is the V:tM term for a collective group of vampires who are their own team, so to speak) that all have similar morals and derive strength from following the path to humanity.

Also, despite bad press they've updated the theme to break up some of the canon boys club misogyny. It's now canon that a woman broke free of the male-dominated Thelema-styled Tremere Council and is forming a sect of Intersectional and experimental Tremere blood mages seeking to work together. They're hunted, but they're growing and have support.

Also, they introduced a Gangrel canon character named "Rudy". Gangrel are often chased out of cities (they're the animalistic-feral type clan), and in the new canon are outlawed in some domains. Rudy, in canon, has taken this to be similar to the treatment of minority vampires (not just gender, race, or sexuality, but also trash vampires shunned by the Camarilla, namely Gangrel, thin bloods whose vampire blood makes them weak but also daywalkers, and clanless Caitiffs) in some cities and is a canon "vampire civil rights" leader.

Plenty of good stuff to chew on.

    • RE: Good TV

I saw that all of Reno 911 is on CBS All-Access (which I have while watching Lower Decks, Picard, Discovery, etc)

Observation: This stuff was hilarious in the early 2000s but now when I watch these cops jump a dude in a Slurpee costume for throwing their litter back into the police car ("*Turn the cameras off; dont record this.") it's awkward as fuck.

(Note: It's not funny in any fashion but what was generally accepted humor 15 years ago isn't the same these days)

I heard Reno 911 is on that Quibi channel with new stuff. Does anyone know if they're addressing all of this police state/abuse stuff or is it more of the same?

    • RE: Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition (VtM 5E)

@Rinel I liked Road of Heaven a lot, because it made vampires feel very Kingdom of Heaven, which I think is a very underrated movie. It brought out a lot of deep thought into some characters. I love the idea of a Holy Knight continuing his search for Heaven even while living as a creature cursed by God.

Still, I think the newer systems where you define those things Meatloaf will NOT DO FOR LOVE allows for a path/road more personalized to the player/character's desires. Kind of like how some paths might be great on 6-7 of the tenets, but three felt weird?

@Groth said in Sexuality: IC and OOC:

@Quinn said in Sexuality: IC and OOC:

I'm a cisgender, straight woman and I find playing a guy pretty tricky unless I'm just going all out frat-boy stereotype as a one off NPC. I just can't get that into it and feel more comfortable playing women. I'm not sitting there constantly like "is this how guys scratch their balls? How much ball scratching should one pose have?" when I'm playing a woman. I know how many times I scratch my balls a day, people.

This is one of those things that you almost only see in those who 'crossplay'. Most guys who play guys won't put ball scratching into their poses because while that might be something they do in their daily lives it's not something they think about. If you just want to 'pass' as being the same gender as the character you're playing, all you need to do is avoid bringing attention to weird things and just focus on your characters personality/dreams/goals etc, don't try to play a 'male' or 'female' character, just play a character who happens to be male or female.

      Agreed 100%.

I don't crossplay. I make characters and simply RP the character regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The important thing is to avoid playing a caricature of a stereotype. The closer you aim to simply writing from the perspective of a character who is 3-dimensional and isn't a cartoon, the less likely you are to offend someone.
