    • RE: RL things I love

      My local car shop.

So, I live an hour from the nearest town, and there are literally only 2 different companies in this village. One is a restaurant along the high way - where they have amazing food, and actual chefs, and that is fully booked every day. Neighboring them is a car shop that has been there since forever, in fact, the current owner is the son to the one that started this place up. My family has bought their cars there since that place opened, and since I moved back home, I've been buying 2 cars from them as well.

So, I booked service on it, cause it was coming up, and I asked to have it washed and cleaned (inside and outside) at the same time. But yesterday they called me and said they wouldn't have time to wash it, they were overwhelmed with work. I didn't have a problem with that at all, I'd just rebook it for some day soon.

Went to pick the car up today, and was paying, and it was just the service I was gonna pay for, since they'd cancelled the washing. Went out to get my car - and the car is all clean, outside and inside. So, I of course go inside to let them know it was washed after all, and I wanted to pay for it, since there clearly had been a misunderstanding.

Now, any regular shop anywhere else would of course accept my money. They? They just went 'Nah, it's fine. If you want you can bring some 'fikabröd' (pastries/cookies/similar) some day.' So, I said I would definitely bring over some fikabröd soon.

I don't know if it is the power of Swedish Fika in play here, or if it's cause my family and I are loyal customers, but man, that felt nice. The wash should have cost 500 SEK, roughly 60 dollars, so that was a fair chunk of money they just let me keep.

I'm gonna bring over some seriously good fikabröd.

@ominous After posting that I went on Youtube and watched some info about it and yep - Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are heavy influences. I had no idea when I watched it, I just put it on on a whim one day when I was bored and really liked it 🙂 Apparently it's produced by LeSean Thomas and based off his mangas - a pretty cool success story. He was also involved in Boondocks.

Edited to add: That trailer is a year and a half old, so should be ok. I hope.

I watch a lot of stuff on Netflix, most of it doesn't really linger on in my mind long enough for me to ever look for another season later, but I really enjoyed CannonBusters. The setting is another world, mixing fantasy and technology, and giving me Firefly vibes - space western feel to it. It has giant robots too, of course, and ninjas, and the main character is a gun-slinger that 'befriends' (I say that losely), two robots who needs his help to find a lost prince. It's crazy and humorous, and the story is pretty good. I definitely wanna see season 2. Oh, and the intro song is annoyingly catchy.

I have no idea why we have a tradition to dress up like witches on thursday before easter, and go around asking for candy - it's some really old tradition, I could google it, but too lazy. But, here's a video of some women that do that every year and collect money for a charity. For obvious reasons they couldn't do that this year, so they made a youtube video, dancing to Jerusalema.

      Made my day.

@ganymede Yeah, I might talk it over with our union rep. They've put ALL of us in danger.

Edited to add: We are essential workers. Can't work from home, and we got to work, or trains don't run in a third of the country.

I genuinely like my job. It's the best job I've ever had, and I hope I can stay a long, long time. But right now I have a huge peeve, about one of my bosses.

Our bosses have repeatedly reminded us about staying safe, not to meet too much people that we don't normally spend time with, to not gather in large numbers, and so on and so on. So, when learning that one of our bosses, together with her daughter who also works at the same place (and sits with us in the same room), went to a cabin in the mountains over a holiday, to meet with 11 other friends and relatives from OTHER parts of the country, and that they got Covid-19 from one of these people?

That is the lamest fucking shit. So now, they got covid, they likely spread it to a third who is now also at home, and another of my co-workers visited him, so now she has to stay at home to wait to see if she has it. And who knows who else they spread it to.

So, yeah. I hope they feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves. They went against ALL the advice and rules, rules they are constantly reminding US to follow.

If I get it, I am tempted to talk to the Union about this shit.

Should I post Evaristo cat? I did before in an Arx thread I think. Though I also got it in his game gallery.

It is the best one, of course. Not biased at all. Really.

The absolute relief when dad calls and tells me 'We got our first shot of the vaccines today.'

It felt like a ton of bricks lifted from my shoulders.

Edited to add: Now we can continue fixing up the cabin and spend time there TOGETHER - it's nearing spring here and we barely went to the cabin last year cause of the virus. But now we can!

Having planned a scene for months, and now having it HAPPEN. Might mean losing characters, but it's a nail-biter and I love it, and I'm ready to move on if that happens. The RP is stellar, the GM is fantastic, everyone's great, it's so exciting I can't sit still.

      AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

My job. I mean, I dont love it all the time, but sometimes it is just so damn fun.

Yesterday: train lost breaks, was heading straight for a town. They clear tracks so it can safely roll straight through, and reroute it so it will go uphill. Train stops cause of the hill. Freaking amazing.

Today: a moose has managed to make its way to the center of town and is on the station. Police and firefighters have to herd it to somewhere safe. Takes an hour and half, no trains can travel there mean while.

Nobody got hurt and we get more amazing stories

      Lamps.

Got five new window lamps for my house. Slowly but inevitably my old ugly-ass lamps had stopped working or were just so ugly I hated them. Now I got five identical nice lamps in the windows and THERE IS LIGHT.

      Sometimes it's the small things.

@nyctophiliac This is an hilarious story. This is the sort of story your kids will tell when they grow up about their mom sorting a serious problem by breaking a window.

      Pretty badass 😄

Despite all the horrors of magic Evaristo has experienced, he's also seen the wonders of it. So he wants to learn the latter, to fight the former. Sort of.

Also, it's great for party tricks.

Mom and dad. I'm isolating at home cause I got a cold, and waiting for the reply to a covid test (I feel fine, it's just mild symptoms that could just as well be a cold). But I ran out of some groceries, and now dad is coming by with butter, potatoes, some moose meat he's raided from their freezer, and some cake mom made. I only really needed the butter.

I should be taking care of THEM - they're over 70, both of them. But at least they didn't have to go to a shop to get this, they had it all at home. They also went by and picked up the self-covid-test for me earlier today, at the pharmacy (also safe, but still.)

They better both live till at least a 100.
