I'm not trying to brag, I promise. This is an appeal to positive feedback.

It was just one person telling me I was nailing something I'm trying to do. And it meant so much to hear that. You see someone being awesome IC or OOCly, tell them. It's very affirming and positive. We need more positivity is the hobby as a whole.

I'm trying to practice what I'm preaching. I'm bad at it. Out of fear and shyness. I still pass out the atta-persons as much as I can.

If you are staff this is a fine line. When I was staff, I would send praise on cool names, interesting back stories or creative setting of stats at CG.

Just be kind out there. We will all be better for it.

Getting in with an awesome group of RPers and telling them as much. Sharing the love feels great.

We really need to be more supportive of one another. Ain't a whole lot of us left and even less that are very good or try very hard.

I'll add a little something that was of mild concern to me before I jumped in at story one: Isle of Dread. World building. I asked myself if I cared if the worlds were underdeveloped in this proposed cycle of stories. I decided I cared more about the character ideas and moved on along.

And then Prosperity's Price happened. The island was fun, short and experimental. I had personal RL issues during Aliens and Sci-Fi isn't my genre. The combo made for bad decisions and a bad time but it's on me. Not on the game. I was glad to move to a new setting. Historical at that!

Oh lord, Prosperity exists. It's as well formed and built in my mind as a game I've been playing for years. My character (The Confidant as archetype), is as real and bound to me as much as any character I have ever played. He and I are so twisted that horror and tragedy within the story have affected me in RL which, of course, speaks to my own insanity but it speaks to the world that has been built by The Director and the other PCs.

My boy has friends, family, loves, dreams and all of those things are crumbling before his eyes in slow motion and by the time any scene is over I need a day or two to disengage. Tears have been shed. It's been a very intense experience and I am happy to say I haven't had any OOC drama to make things worse or more intense as drama bleeds in. No no no. This is my fault. I aimed for a different exploration of the Archetype and just made myself sad.

It's awesome. We, as the characters, feel a little bit like soldiers in the trenches. Just holding it together until it's over for better or worse. Praying for the best and expecting the worse. Let's not go into characters with TB that are doomed no matter what.

It's been stunning but I am so, so, so ready for Slasher that holds the promise of being lighter and funnier. That said, I don't expect the world to be any less vivid or the characters to pack less punch. It'll just be different.

When your PC gets their Crowning Moment. If you could bottle that feeling, you could be a billionaire.

I love researching for a new character. I mean, I'm a nerd and I know I probably overdo it but I just end up learning so much! Today, it's income demographics of an American state. Then I wondered why people were so poor around a certain area. This lead me further down the wikihole...I ain't back yet. All because I wasn't happy with the character being from Large, Popular City, USA.

Yesterday, it was the history of midwives, the day before might have been an extensive study on old western slang. Over the years, I have gathered a wealth of information about subjects all over. It may have only been relevant for a short time but it sticks with you.

When you are in a scene or making plans with someone and you realize that nerdy pretendy fun times really is cooperative storytelling and it's awesome and it's the most fun one can have for free as far as I'm concerned.

Something I started doing when I am feeling like world's worst RPer with the worst ideas ever and WHY am I even doing this is this: If the game as reccs, or a similar system and you get some? Keep them. If a friend is super awesome to you. Log it. Keep the things that in that moment, remind you why you fight with the drama, internal and external.

And then, when it sucks. Find your files of love and reread them. It feels kinda self-indulgent, to me, at first. Like I'm lounging in all the nice things but their ain't but a handful. I lost a lot in a HDD crash of '17 so it's a slow rebuild. A reviewed a few the other night and I came away feeling a lot better, esp since I still talk to those people. The reminder that you aren't total trash is good for you.

You have friends and they seem to keep talking to you and RPing and bouncing ideas and whatever. They like you. You like them. And a disagreement or ruffled feathers won't break a bond worth keeping.

When you establish a past connection OOCly with a near stranger and when it comes up ICly, you and that player work so, so well together.

Just going back and forth over some story about how they met, for example. It's pure co-operation storytelling and it's the very best.

Okay, everybody.

At exactly 8pm CST on March 1st, we will be leaving soft RP and going live.

This means a few things:

* XP spends will be open, but for a time all spends must go through Staff via a +request.
* XP may be gained through means other than your weekly allowance. Which means you may gain beats through aspirations, PrPs, breaking points, 
and all those funky fun things.
* Game plots will kick off in short order, so you'll be wanting to watch +events for happyfuntimes.
* ICA will really and for true mean ICC.
* You will have until 3/14/19 to make any minor respec changes to your sheet that reflects stuff that didn't work for you during soft open.

Please be patient as we here on staff side wrangle with what will likely be a huge influx of jobs. It may take more time than normal to see a response.

The wiki will still be a work-in-progress, but most major information should be there and we're hoping to have character pages ready for you. 
In addition, some more specialized things coming down the pike may not be fully in place yet.

I wanna take a moment to show some love to supportive staff. Story time!
(TL;DR: Staff let me play what I wanted not only with full support but with assistance and even a touch of enthusiasm.)

Once upon a time, in the days before The Reach opened, Goldfish was a budding staffer. Goldie mentioned on the staff channel that they had a concept for a Hunter. A wheelchair using disabled vet in Task Force: Valkyrie. Oh, how excited Goldie was for their concept! It would be a challenge, sure, but they really loved their idea. It was barebones at the time but it was to be their first PC in the game and their fourth or fifth ever. Also, the first Hunter ever for Goldie was still new to World of Darkness and roleplaying in general. Poor, sweet, naive little Goldfish.

Enter Big Mean Hunter Staffer (Whose name is lost to the annals of time. Just as well. He was eventually fired.)
"No!" said BMHS. "Task Force Valkyrie would never recruit a guy in a wheelchair! Even if he is a skilled veteran of the military!" He all but said it was terrible and stupid. I'm pretty sure there was a "LOL" in there. Goldie tucked their fins and swam away, saddened not only by the nasty ableism but also the shooting down of their precious concept. One of their first concepts ever for, as stated before, Goldie was still new to the community. The concept went on the shelf, occasionally being picked up for use of various elements but never used in total. (TR folks might recall Travis and William. They both had elements)

Fast forward to 2018. Reno has moved to a new server and is under new management. Again, Goldfish is a staffer. They are older now. Wiser. They understand the systems and the fluff better than before. And again, Goldie is chatting with their fellow staff. Goldie looks to their concept shelf and sees their old disabled vet in TFV. Goldie remembers the previous reaction but forges ahead, dusting it off and putting it out for suggestion.

And they liked it! Staff helped Goldie to refine the concept, make it fit into theme, and offered ideas to further it. They nurtured Goldie and out of it came Nick: Disabled former marine turned Alex Jones for the paranormal. (ADAMSKI operative. He spreads lies on Youtube.) He's involved in plot and Goldie is totally engaged with him as a character.

Today, Goldie is the happiest fish in the bowl because of good, open minded, supportive and creative staff. It is a lot easier to just say No. It's harder to say Yes, and...

So this too long post is dedicated to all of you Staffers and Storytellers out there who support, boost, and nurture your players and their creativity. Folks like you all are the backbone of this community and I am endlessly appreciative of it.

I don't want my characters to die. Full stop. I don't spend upwards of a month crafting a character to have them ganked in their third scene. I don't spend a year with a character, all up in their head and shit, just to get iced.

99% of the time, I just play cautiously. I don't attend scenes with a Death Imminent warning, or I go in with a valid IC way to bail if the heat is too hot. He who runs away and all. Nothing is wrong with being a coward, if it fits with that character.

That being said, failure is fine. I will happily except a maiming. Maim away! I don't mind picking up the pieces after a failure, ICly. I don't even need an incentive. Thems the breaks.

I'll just take a pass on death.

So alllll of that became irrelevant. Still go with Queer because "Really, I'm more on the Asexual spectrum but pan-romantic." sounds like I fell out of Tumblr and landed on planet earth. Still cis woman of color. That don't wash off.

The roster? Boys still rule the day BUT some are LGBTQ+. One is a man of color. And a WOMAN has entered the fray. And I am enjoying her immensely. (The secret was to play a woman over 35. Even though I am not.)

Point of this post? Apparently, I stumbled into exploring different sexualities and attractions and ages and races in my characters and I am having a lot of fun I wasn't having before. So. Get outta that rut, y'all.

Reconnecting with old friends and partners.

I am so, so fortunate that THREE whole people have come back into my little online world in just this past week or so. I have a hard time making and keeping friends when there is no drama involved. Add in drama and it's usually a done deal.

I cherish my friends dearly because of this so to have them come back, happy, refreshed and wanting to actually play with me? ME? I'm a happy fishy.

I got tired of updates and thread necromancy.

If I see a game that interests me but isn't WOD, I'm going to fucking try it. I'm been WoD since I started about eight years ago and damn it, it's time for a change.

I'm just scared of trying to learn a new system.

Relationship RP is my jam, yo. I love getting swept up in a story of personal drama with high emotional stakes. Best time you can have for free, if you ask me. I've been married several times of varying lengths. They all ended mostly because of idles or burnouts...or game closures.

From my recollection, I've been a husband more often than a bride. I think I give good groom. I have written vows, picked rings, researched proper attire and been a part of some lovely ceremonies, both private and public.

I just love it. No matter how many times it turns tits up, I go back for more.

Alien: Mutation is still ongoing! I've been sick and RL has been an asshole so I can't personally speak for how far along we are in the story...

BUT!

The next story has been revealed! Prosperity's Price! We're goin' back in time. Old West style y'all. There are all sorts of new rules and changes coming into this story only, so come and take a peek if you are at all curious! I really like the Perks and Quirks myself.
