    • RE: The Apology Thread

I gotta own up to some of my bullshit from years ago.

I was staffing at a large game and I was off my meds. Suckers got lost. I did some unethical shit that I regret to this day...even though it was years ago. I lost a good friend in that mess and I regret that even more and I am sorry. I shouldn't have been staffing in that condition. I shouldn't have did what I did.

      I'm sorry.

    • RE: MU Pacing

I love relationship RP. I love 1x1. I would love to be able to slow burn relationships; lovers, master/apprentice, vampire/thrall, whatever. But we're living in the real world and it gets in the way. Allow me to awkwardly explain.

I've had terrible luck over the years. Disappearing partners, dead and dying games, time zone differences, player groups disbanding, my partners getting banned (That's happened about three times now. I need to be a better judge of character).

If I want to play out a relationship, I feel the need to get to the point and fast before everything falls apart. Instead, I try to play off the speed in which the relationship manifests. So there are misunderstandings, miscommunication and mistakes that come with fools rushing in.

Example: My thrall, early in his relationship with his vampire told someone (a fellow occultist and close friend NPC) about her. Not in great detail, just saying he had met a vampire and OMG he was SOOOOOO in love. (Stupid vinculum). This was expressed clearly as a no-no. Once. He misunderstood what was off limits and got a little too excited.

When he offhandedly mentioned that his buddy was concerned about him being with a vampire, He didn't realize he fucked up big time. Dumbass thought the concern was precious and he just had to share. Needless to say, vampire was pissed. It made for a great scene filled with rage and angst and tension.

Point is, I'm a carpe diem kind of player, because I never know when everything will just go boom and I'll be left holding the ball.

@Auspice Thank you! If nothing else, it'll help my understanding.

@Ghost Funny how you listed all the things I love about Matt Murdock and all the things I hope to bring into play.

My first real exposure to the character was the film and...I stand by the statement that the director's cut is better. Note that I didn't say good...

I fell in love with the Netflix version. And I just learned about digital comics through my local library so, I'll have move frames of reference.

I'm gonna go with London. It's culturally close and easy to research. I wouldn't fear screwing it up and I'd app there in a heartbeat.

El Paso-Juarez sounds fun too. I'd give it a try for sure.

1980s LA is just...I'm an East Coaster born in the 80s. May as well set it on Mars 2218 as far as I can relate to it. (Unless you give me a list of films, shows, or books that I can absorb)

Vampires of the Caribbean conjures up some cool imagery but I don't think it's viable. Night pirates. Meh.

Playing a thrall to a blood pimp is probably more exciting than my bland vampire. I'm in.

    • RE: Creative Outlets

      @lithium
      Regarding outfit posing:
      Sometimes, the outfit is important.

No, for reals, guys! Here me out.

I play a character that is usually a jeans and t-shirt guy. But lo and behold, in THIS scene, he's wearing a suit. Maybe it's pressed and fresh. Maybe it's rumpled and the tie is undone. Why is this character wearing a suit all of a sudden?

It's all about creating those little visual cues within our text medium. It fills out a character and sends a message, one way or another.

EDIT: I just remembered a muslim woman I played once. Let me tell ya, a day didn't pass when I wasn't looking at hijab and hijab styles. Fashion was a huge deal to her, so I was always looking up outfits to figure out what she's wearing in this scene, even if I never posed it.

    • RE: Why did you pick your username?

It came from the term "Goldfish grudge". A grudge that doesn't last because the person just...forgot it? That's how I took it at the time.
And that's me all day in this community. Last month's beef is highly likely to be called water under the bridge this month.

I just have a hard time holding a grudge. I can count on one hand how many people I will never, ever associate with. (I don't count the universally awful, like Spider, for example)

@SunnyJ said in Fallen World MUX!:

@Thenomain @Coin We decided to ditch Arcane XP because we are using a XP ceiling in Fallen World. We felt since players have a limited amount of XP to toy with that we could allow them to craft their characters as they wished within those boundaries! We are indeed using other forms of advancement for characters other than Experiences, but those are not Arcane Beats!

This has been bugging me and I finally figured out why. Will you be allowing respecs?

All I can think about is a dumb player, like myself, putting beats into all the wrong things because they are learning. They reach the ceiling with an incoherent sheet and have no way out.

I'm not talking twinking, though that would be a concern. I'm talking about general bad choices and a lack of planning. Which, once again, is one of my problems.

    • RE: MU Things I Love

@auspice I'm one of those itchy players who hates death and blah, blah, blah but this is soooo different.

If/When my character dies....he'll be back in the next story! And I have the supporting characters to play! AND there is a meta plot to continue on with my Archetype in the meantime! And if all my lovelies go down? They'll hand me another!

And then the story is done? Flip! Dust your archetype/PC off, we are at it again with something fresh! It really is freeing and my creativity is all sparkly and alive because I can play characters that I know I couldn't do long term for whatever reason. I don't have to think about long arcs and big goals. It's just fun and easy and it's fresh air.

      @Botulism, it's god damn genius.

Command+J. Oh my god. I found the hidden folder and just ported the whole Atlantis folder to the other computer. I got it working I am in business. Thank you and @Sparks!

    • RE: Horror MUX - Discussion

I stand by my statement in another thread.

This is some wave of the future shit we are on.

It was imperfect. Messy. Confusing. But it's been incredibly active. The short stories and constant waves of new information kept my character active. There is always something to talk about, discuss, plan or whatnot.

If I had one issue, it would be this sort of pressure to be there or you'll miss something important. But this could be my hangup more than a game complaint. I'm about to leave town just as the story is coming to a close and I'm salty. (Even though, I probably won't miss it. Still. I might.)

But the story isn't even The End! I'm already brewing the next version of The Confidant and I am totally psyched to keep on.

@bear_necessities It has a feel of blink and you miss something but you really don't. 2-3 hours every few nights or so is about what I do and while I am missing some awesome Facility stuff while i've been out of town, then sick...it's not a big deal.

@skew Yes. This. Hell, in the Observation Deck, I wandered off and missed half the scene. They gave me a recap.

It seems to be fostering a sense of community. If we aren't in the scene we are welcome to watch. Logs are available and there is an whole damn system to make them easier to post.

Why are you guys going to make me choose the Devil? What kind of choice is that?!

On Topic: I love when others take the ball you give them and run. My PC gave another some heroin. (Don't worry. It's Bayer's. Totes safe.) Total IC thing he'd do, did it and moved on. I breeze about the wiki to find that that PC kept on RPing that he was stoned off his ass. I don't normally read logs unless instructed, so I don't usually pay them a lot of attention but it was a nice thing to see. Co-op storytelling is nice.

    • RE: Forgiveness in Mushing

Forgiveness is my jam. The "Goldfish Grudge" is where my screen name comes from. I've said it before but I'll reframe it.

Everyone can have a bad day, week, month. In my case, my entire summer was just trash and the months preceding were not great either. (Fuck 2018) I don't think I did anything unforgivable. I know I got under people's skin, annoyed, whined, whatever. I was in a bad place and I didn't even know it at the time. If anyone is reading this and I did something unbecoming, I do apologize and I believe I am improving.

Some years ago, I had a personal meltdown that spilled into the hobby. That's my black mark and I'm gonna end it there.

I've been Mushing since roughly 2010 or so. So eight years. I do not want my entire time with this community to be defined by my rough patches and the bad habits and behavior that I become too weak to fight. So, in turn, I forgive easily. I afford others the same I would want for myself. I strive to treat others as I want to be treated in all things.

Add in the fact that I am forgetful and I will completely blank on why I'm 'supposed' to hate Person A this week.** Put in a dash of, 'this hobby is too fucking small to hate everyone in it if I want to keep playing and creating.' and you have the Goldfish Guidelines of Forgiveness. Only three players, that I have dealt with personally, are exempt from this. I won't play with them, period, as long as I recognize them. (I don't always know who is who and I prefer it that way. Keeps me unbiased)

**That forgetfulness has saved me countless times from toxic hate circlejerks.

I love when a piece of game theme or another player's concept just falls in your lap and just lights a fire in the creative furnace. It's always something indirect but game related. Unintentional, perhap,. but I love that feeling.

    • RE: MU Things I Love

@Kestrel Oh, no way. HorrorMu's cyclical nature has given me the nerve to play characters that do things that are mean, off-putting, mildly sexist/racist, vain, and just plain annoying. I wouldn't do that in a long game only because I can't sustain it very well (I'm too nice or something?) but those moments when I am typing up something totally obnoxious and it gets the response I wanted. Mmm. Best feeling you can get for free.
