RE: Critters!
May I offer a range of dogs?
I will be offended if you don't.
Also, all the best to your sister.

Tim's Cascade chips has a flavor called "Sasquatch Surprise".
I originally read that as "Time's Cascade chips" and was like whoa that's pretty high concept for potato chips, going back to the past when sasquatches still walked the earth

RE: How are you coping with COVID (and other 2020 fun)?
Endure. That's all I can think of to do. I keep working because I'm "essential" (but not essential enough to be paid a living wage, which makes me want to burn the "heroes work here" signs in front of the building) and I stay away from my family to keep them safe. I watch myself grow angrier and watch my social skills atrophy, both with dismay but with no idea of how to prevent or reverse either. I just keep reminding myself I'm okay, I'm not great but I'm okay, I can get through this, just five more months to go until I probably have a vaccine and the people I want to visit probably have a vaccine...
In the meantime, I sleep a lot.

In many animal species, in most primates, holding eye contact is meant to be challenging. I'm not convinced macho bullshit isn't the reason prolonged eye contact is even a thing.
It's largely American macho bullshit. A lot of countries don't prioritize eye contact the way we do because they understand it's aggressive.

RE: The Work Thread
@tek Oh, I'm not mad or anything, I'm legit curious. I just took for granted that people would understand kids have to live with their parents well into adulthood these days, so you asking makes me wonder about my assumptions.

RE: The Work Thread
@tek Ah. In her case, it would be hard to conceal. She works nights and some evenings, with the vaccine only available during day shift, so she'd have had to come up with a reason to go to work at a weird hour, while also masking symptoms from the side effects.

@cassite It's so stupid, because they could make a KILLING in taxes.
More or less than they make from the free labor they get from prisoners?

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@cobaltasaurus Good god, I hope you're alright. That's very concerning. I hope you consider erring on the side of caution.

RE: Critters!
I knitted Arlo a sweater. He disapproves.
Then he is objectively wrong because he looks his BEST.

Let me bring my dog to work.
That's it. That's all.
Must disagree. As much as I love dogs, that makes for a very unprofessional work environment.
Get around that by letting ME bring Cupcake's dog to work.

So now I have a bunch of links and bullshit.
Oh, please tell me they're the kind of "So your brain doesn't prioritize time well? Our advice is to ignore your brain and prioritize your time better" self-help.

Does anyone else do this? It's exhausting. Is this normal? Is this just me?
I don't do exactly that, but something similar. Like, if people don't talk to me, I think it must be because they're tired of me and want me to leave them alone. Rationally, I know that's not true; they could just be busy, or distracted, or even having the kind of braingremlin day where they can't reach out and need a friend to do it for them. I argue with myself about it the way you do, but in my case, the belief that their silence is indicative of contempt is too deep-seated to budge, so rational thought gives up too early in the fight for me to get tired by it.

You mean Beans is very generous to let Ashleigh share her show with her.

Anyone who thinks Israel and Jews are a monolith needs to look into Neturei Karta, and anyone who thinks criticizing the IDF is antisemitic needs to look into 'Breaking the Silence'.
I don't get the feeling that people who think "Jews = Israel" get to that position because they are receptive to self-education. Or any education.

My side peeve is people who think that all Chinese people are part of or support the Chinese government. These are generally the same people who presume that all Americans should support the American government.
And they have very specific ideas (that they'll rarely state out loud) about who is and is not American.
