RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
I got the job I wanted. Payrise, away from the team that made my life hell, and something that I'm excited about. That hasn't happened for a long time...

RE: RL things I love
Apparently wombats in fire effected areas are not only allowing other animals to take shelter in their deep, fire-resistant burrows but are actively herding fleeing animals into them.
Forgot to edit: I got caught by fake news here. They are not herding them in. But they are, as grouchy, preferring to be alone, creatures, accepting that others might be able to come in, if they stay over there and don't talk to them.

RE: The Crafting Thread
I made a thing. A handbag, made from the fabric of a skirt my sister loved but couldn't wear any more so...

RE: MU Things I Love
Instead of flaming depression, I'm going to say I love my crew for helping me not do anything stupid and harmful, and holding me up through one of the worst crashes I've had for a while!
MU* people rock.

Discworld: The MUSH
A note sounds...
Swimming in from the blackness of space, there is a world, resting on the back of four elephants, riding on a turtle...
A place where magic exists, where DEATH is an anthropomorphic personification and where a librarian can be an orangutan.
Welcome to Discworld MUSH!
Set in Ankh-Morpork, we have set our roleplaying game in a place where belief is real, where barbarian heroes drink alongside wizards, where witches use headology to fight their battles, and where you are welcome to write your own story. We know that the biggest fear of playing on this game is letting Terry Pratchett's writing down but in the words of the patrician, Vetinari, "We play and are played and the best we can hope for is to do it with style."
In our universe, down the trousers of time from Terry’s, you can be a Lord or a Lady, a thief or a wizard, a troll or a dwarf. You can play political games, spend time in the Mended Drum, or brawl in the Shades. Be part of a Guild, or be unguilded - this is a world where any story can be told. Be a politician or a beggar.
We are now opening for beta testing, with limited places to match our limited staffing capacity!

RE: The Dog Thread
Can I offer a boxer puppy as competition? Fabulous dogs. High energy, protective of their people. Intelligent. Quick to learn..

RE: RL things I love
My step-dad died earlier in the year, and it has been a pretty shitty one when it comes to family stuff. But yesterday my mother gave me his desk. My daughter and I smothered it in oil today and cleaned it, and made the drawers move...

RE: Serious Question About Making A MU
@faraday said in Serious Question About Making A MU:
@Mercutio I would add to that a new branch:
Do You Have a Coder?
--> No
Are You Willing to Run with the AresMUSH code as-is? (Bearing in mind that there are several plugins available for different skill systems.)
---> Yes
Use Ares. You don't need a coder.Though I will put out my usual disclaimer that Ares is still in Beta. It's very stable, but bugs do happen.
I'll note that, as a noncoder, I've been able to set up discworld mush entirely in ares with support from @faraday and the discord.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
People who have to pull others down to feel better about their issues. I shouldn't have to spend three hours fixing your cruelty to a junior member of staff who was just getting her belief in her abilities.

RE: How to Approach (nor not) a Suspected Creep
See, I have been on the receiving end of a creep. I didn't see it at first, as it escalated and it took someone else to say "Are you ok?" for me to pause and go, "No, actually this isn't comfortable." When I disengaged my character from his IC, he flipped his shit OOCly and staff had to step in to make him stop freaking out at me for saying no. So for me, being asked meant that I did finally see what was going on. The guy was staff there, and was also fired for doing some pretty dodgy stuff.
To be honest, YMMV. @Grayson and I have rped some stuff that does look dodgy AF and certainly I've been asked if that was ok. I just said yeah, we're friends and sorted it out ooc. I chuckled and moved on.

Text messages saying you don't have Covid-19. I like these very much.

RE: The Dark Side of online Role-Playing
I played a game where RL social life was common, including yearly meetups. I was single, with a 5-year-old at the time and we had a lot of gamers around. So this guy was on the fringes of the UK mud group, and flirted hard with me. I went on a date, seemed alright, and he joined a group of us when we went to a museum, taking my daughter with me. There was a point where I couldn't see her, and someone told me he was with her. I got an epic wave of anxiety, decided to trust my gut and cut him loose.
A few months later, he pages me on the game to bewail that he had been caught and was being prosecuted for child porn. He then went onto kill himself. Within a month, I had messages from four young women (15ish max age) who played there, all telling me that they knew I was a good friend to him and that they had been in true love.
Grooming happens in the nicest of communities.

Fate Community Mu*
Exeter (formally of DarkSpires mush) and I have been working on a project to help out the fate games starting out, and let people play tabletop type fate/fae sessions on a mush.
So far, we have dice and sheet functionality, and forums to set up your campaign. We hope to have some campaign function to set refresh, fate points and stunts soon.
We also have a code sharing policy, to help those games get moving without so much pain, and hope that is useful. Exeter has a github with most of the code on it (happy to link to other Fate code bases too)

RE: Critters!
We had to leave her with my mother for one night. The next day, I wasn't able to move for having a pup next to me. This is her "helping" me study...
She grew out of her warm coat, so we bought a bright one to be able to see her out on the fields at night..

RE: Faraday Appreciation Thread
Sure, I'm in.
I have bugged her for this and that, and asked stupid questions. Not once had she not been kind and patient. We've had the idea suggestion discussion, and she has turned me down but never been less than nice.
Also I like her and appreciate anyone making it easier to be in this hobby.

RE: RL things I love
I just started to sew for the first time since school. I joined a dressmaking class and I love it. It came with some struggles (pattern for class goes up to X size. I am four sizes above that) but this weekend I shortened curtains and now I just recovered some chairs that have been bugging me.
