One of the covid-19 volunteer group I'm part of, on hearing I haven't been well, left bath salts on my doorstep. Lavender bath salts. A little kind gesture that reduced me to tears. Seeing our community look out for each other has been a real pleasure.

RE: The Crafting Thread
Our new "hobby". These come with a little nose thing, and a space for you to put a filter. (edit, we're selling them with a Buy One, Give One model for our local community).

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Or, you know, I could lie here, wondering if I'm imagining that I've upset someone, or if I have and don't know how, and ... argh.

RE: The Work Thread
Haha I got promoted. Apparently that means random people email me asking if I need VR equipment for home...
Why yes please. I love my new role.

Random "this might be useful" stuff
I saw this post on how you might get cheaper medication in the US and thought it might be useful to someone here? And then realised we might need a thread for collectively "this feels like it might be useful to someone here" stuff.

RE: Critters!
This is our girl, who just died, objecting to a walk during an Australian heat wave
This is her, having had major surgery after a disc burst, relearning to walk
This is our other old man (died last year) being oblivious to being swooped by Aussie magpies
We are now dogless for the first time ever.... It is so wrong but we're out all the time so it wouldn't be fair. Did you know that, if you sponser a dog, you can send it presents?

RE: What drew you to MU*?
I love that we are creating a story, that my thread is just one of them, that other's characters can impact that story, and surprise me. I love that it can be a community, that I met some close friends (and my husband) through the hobby. It broadens the world, makes me speak to people I never would have (I found out someone I liked voted for trump, for example).
The people. The story. In short.

Darkspires
Joining those feeling like risking the posting of a game
Welcome to Dark Spires MUSH, where the search for truth takes you into the world of vampires, through the lairs of shapeshifting creatures, past magicians, on to psychics and all manner of mortals simply seeking to live their lives. It is where two worlds come together and overlap; the obvious world in which Man works, loves, and walks, and the Supernatural world, where unimaginable creatures are free to play their tricks. This is where mystery, violence, espionage and political intrigue coexist beneath a thin veneer of believable lies.
There is no such thing as sitting on the fence of life.
Our story is set in Oxford, England, where the great universities, ancient churches and cunning city council form a never-ending maelstrom. It is not for the careless nor the faint of heart. A place where your lover might be a spy, your best friend might be a demon and your employer might be literally sucking the life out of you.
Our goal is to foster an environment with enough conflict to be exciting, where puzzles are always to be found and most of all, the story is the key..
.. but is it the truth?

RE: 365 Prompts
@emmahsue said in 365 Prompts:
Fear: What scares you a little? What do you feel when scared? How do you react?
I make the call, knowing that what we did made little difference. I arrive, all smartly turned out, with all of the gadgets of my trade, knowing none of them change what faces me behind that front door. The polite, tidy, terribly middle-class front door, painted pale blue. I hesitate before I knock, resisting the urge to flee from this. As the door opens, I put my best Gentle Smile on my face. Sympathetic, warm, just enough to make them feel confident in me, in my abilities, in my knowledge. As they let me into their home, I watch her movements, I watch the pain and the shuffling. I see the decline, the small marks time and disease have made on her. We have the conversations, all the time avoiding what should be said, that nothing will change this. Their confidence in me is misplaced. My ability to fix this is nil. Fear. The fear of being found out, of being declared a fraud, a failure. The fear of their response when they realise that all I can offer now is a shoulder to cry on, and a pair of sympathetic ears. I sit there, cradling the cup of tea, listening to their stories of their day, nodding and giving that Gentle Smile. The urge to fix things, to make it better, is crushed by the unsurmountable truth. Death wins.
Dunno if that fits for fear but there you go. My first try

RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?
@L-B-Heuschkel said in Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?:
Said Guild Master deciding we're best friends and by the way, let's go have sex. Definitely, decidedly in PC territory. So far in, there is no return.
... And now I'm going to go wash my eyes in bleach because really, Lord Downey is 55 years old and keeps two very large dogs in his bedroom and I took this example to somewhere my mind is now screaming to get away from.
As the NPC-running staffer for this NPC, I can say definitely NEVER going to play mini-golf with Andrew on this.
For me, it is as @Derp says - Mac the barman, or Igor the barman, are NPCs with their own agenda and issues. But they do exist in that role, with clearly defined roles. Igor might pass on information, or sew a body part back on, or make a cocktail with an interesting name but for me, on an OOC level, I am using him to have a direct impact on the storyline. So Downey sitting down with Andrew had a precise and deliberate impact: to get Andrew to investigate by telling him absolutely not to.

RE: Discworld: The MUSH
I hired another staffer for two reasons. Just business but also to avoid single admin related problems. He can do my jobs, and keep me flying straight.

RE: Mushing and Dating/Relationships
I've met a few lovers through mu*, and none of them have been disasters in the way my non-gaming people have so....
But. I met my husband on a mush, and since he was already a player, he grasped the need to be up at 3am for a scene. We met in person after playing for a couple of months, spent four days together. He proposed at the end of those four days. I said yes. We got married. 13 years later, he still won't play the games I want to play with me but persists in playing games that need a graphics card... He was Prospero on mednights, if anyone remembers him
