I prefer them because of my limited hours. Most of my RP takes multiple days to complete because I don't sit down to RP until 7 or 8pm most nights and I start feeling zzzzzzz between 9 and 10pm. That's a pretty narrow window to play!
And it solves the US/EU problem for me! I have two scenes going with two US based players who, without this, it would be brief or only via a document or something...
And if you don't want someone dropping in going 'ugh why has no one posed in 12 hours, geez' well.... it's gotta be private.
We tend to leave it public, open to others joining but our player base is small enough to know who is busy or not, and we tend to leave "good night" oocs in there...
I think the bigger Ares games are much more flexible for folks. Like Grey Harbor!
I'll cheerfully plug Discworld here! Small and we're keen to involve everyone at this point!
