RE: Discworld: The MUSH
I hired another staffer for two reasons. Just business but also to avoid single admin related problems. He can do my jobs, and keep me flying straight.

@surreality That sounds incredibly useful! I wonder if I have a local tailor who might help but consider yourself nudged. Himself is buying me a dummy for xmas so I can actually hang it on something without peering in mirror.

RE: RL things I love
I know it is bad and I know there is a pay-off but... oh my god, hypomania feels so good and I get SO much done. I love it...

RE: The Work Thread
Did my first module evaluation today of the modules I have taken over and run... Five students said they cannot think of anything I can improve. Apart from putting up powerpoints and doing more assignment work in class, they love my module!

My kids still have online expectations and rules though, and we talk about safety and best practices frequently.
The same here. My daughter may have grown up surrounded by Internet people, we have been clear about behaviours online.
I think respect, reasoning and discussions have been key for us...

RE: The Dark Side of online Role-Playing
I played a game where RL social life was common, including yearly meetups. I was single, with a 5-year-old at the time and we had a lot of gamers around. So this guy was on the fringes of the UK mud group, and flirted hard with me. I went on a date, seemed alright, and he joined a group of us when we went to a museum, taking my daughter with me. There was a point where I couldn't see her, and someone told me he was with her. I got an epic wave of anxiety, decided to trust my gut and cut him loose.
A few months later, he pages me on the game to bewail that he had been caught and was being prosecuted for child porn. He then went onto kill himself. Within a month, I had messages from four young women (15ish max age) who played there, all telling me that they knew I was a good friend to him and that they had been in true love.
Grooming happens in the nicest of communities.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@surreality She is adorable to a point. This morning she has barked and barked because nobody will keep throwing the ball, and then bayed at our neighbour for being in their garden. Before 9am. She really hates one of our neighbours because she has learning difficulties, and a distinct lack of respect for personal space and autonomy of puppies who like to know people before they are picked up and hugged.
