This feeds into a real peeve of mine, people who are super vocally pro-vaccination who aren't vaccinated. Yes, adults need things like the MMR. If you're going to act all elitist and smart, maybe you should know that you're still not immune from childhood. I've gotten into this with friends in FB who were being soooooooo smart and knew nothing about pertussis or that their MMR had likely worn off.

I think more or less it boils down to 'everyone can be an elitist dickface'.

@The-Tree-of-Woe It's cool. I have purple hair, so I'm a bit off center for an accountant, but the cliche/stereotype exists for a reason. It's not an invalid notion.
As for the rest, I think we're more going along with the tangent of Cobalt hates this class, rather than programs as a whole. Or at least that's the context I was taking it in. I'm very confused by the stalwart notion of I PAID FOR THIS SO I LOVE IT. I must be confused, there were classes I've had to take that I didn't want any part of. I'm pretty sure most people have this experience. Maybe you get something out of it, maybe you don't.
Why do I have a feeling this is going to get into some sort of weird penis measuring thing over who's totes smrtst? Well educated? Cool. This doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to make people who aren't feel like shit. Which happens a lot. Educated dick cliches exist for a reason.

Uh. I didn't say anything bad about humanities or people who love them. Just that I am super STEM, I don't get things the way people who are really into the Humanities do, therefore, I have learned to give someone what they want because it's not my cup of tea. I'm an accountant. So yeah, I'm pretty numbers oriented.
But you can be insulted if you really want, @The-Tree-of-Woe. It wasn't what I intended.
I am half ginger, so the soulless isn't too off the mark.

@Coin College courses aren't always your choice though. Everyone has classes that aren't their major they have to take. Like Humanities. Ew. I'm super STEM. I just learned to regurgitate what some humanities professor wants, because I could give a fuck.

School isn't always about learning things. Sometimes the lesson you learn is how to cough up exactly what the bossman wants so you can move on with your life. This professor wants some bullshit about xyz so I give him that and we both move on. These people have devoted years of their life to study of this topic. They think what they have to say is important. That's all.

@silentsophia At least Dallas sees snowfalls. Like, actual snow. We get a very light dust only every few years.
@Miss-Demeanor I so feel you on the man child thing.
-
RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Oh. You're over there. We can't be friends, we don't talk to you people.
-
RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
@Miss-Demeanor Yes!! Except at me, because we have hurricanes, tornadoes and floods that trap you where you are. Gulf Coast for the win. I think.

I don't wanna date your avatar but I'd have a hot threeway with it.

I live in the 4th? largest city in the country. If it freezes here, it's A BIG FUCKING DEAL. I mean, the panic is overblown mostly yes, but we have zero ways to prepare for it. They only have like 3-4 trucks that can sand overpasses. And PS, you won't get anywhere without going on an overpass so, yeah. It's just best to stay home. But while the panic is absurd, we really can't do fuck all about freezing anything. An ice storm took out power for a week one time. Mock all you want, almost literally the entire rest of the country including the upper half of my state...but I was 20 before I ever saw snow in my entire life, other than a light dust. The first real snow I saw I thought was a blizzard. I thought every snow fall was a blizzard. So you may know snow, but there are people there to whom that will be the biggest ever winter storm they ever saw in their LIFE. This entitles you to mock away, but in return I get to point and laugh when you complain about the terrible heat and it's like 90 degrees.
And I find people who are like I'M SO OCD are really terribly messy. I don't know why they say these things. It's really irritating.

There's fun in vampire? No one invited me to the fun.

@Arkandel No I meant the server should ask! You're fine and this is the venting area. But @ThatOneDude makes a good point. People are assholes to servers. I learned that quick but I was always nice. Within reason. I'm still nice to people who wait on me. Which gets me made fun of by friends if I have them on the phone. And yes, I quit talking to my friends when Im being waited on at the register.
I'm just a bitch all the other times. Shut up @silentsophia. See? I'm the worst.

I always brought lemon and straw on the side. This is the south, if you want something other than a lot of ice in your water you will be specific. Just like I asked Yankees 'sweet or unsweetened tea' because people here know better than to ask for just tea if you want it unsweetened.
But yes. Either ask or put lemon in a tiny dish.

RE: Python Tutorials?
@Cobaltasaurus Logo isn't used any longer with Mindstorms. They're no longer purely an educational/institution thing, you can buy them at Target and Toys R Us now. I'd have a set of the baby were a bit older. That was 23 years ago when you also had to install a card into the PC and literally plug it into your motor and tell your turtle to go forward however long you wanted your motor to go forward.
Logo is from the 60s. Pascal too I think. I learned them in public school in the early 90s and they were 'old' then. I agree that they're amazing foundations, back then you didn't take computer science unless you had been screwing with stuff already. I had been programming basic since forever (PC magazine used to publish a 'game' in their magazine, it was pages of code you input yourself).
If you're taking a class in school I imagine they just assume you've got some sort of foundation built in hardcode. There's a reason they still taught Pascal in middle school/high school in the 90s, I just didn't see it then.

RE: Python Tutorials?
Codeacademy is alright but like any language, you don't use it and forget it. That said, I've used code academy extensively with some degree of success, mainly with JavaScript, Python and Ruby. I learned Logo and Pascal in school, along with basic, C++ and other crap like Visual Basic (I hate you Visual Basic).
The problem is pacing, consistency and application. The key is having a reason why and then applying it. Not a reason like I'd love to learn it because I want to make all the money, but something to create with the code. Like projects. Like you do in school.
At least I've found.
Find a local hack group and go hang out with them. We have chick coding groups in my city.
I'm just not super sold on the free model. Books, classes in various formats with people to turn to and applied projects.

RE: Python Tutorials?
Logo used to be how you ran mindstorm Legos. I'm not sure they were called mindstorm back then, but it's the same line. We used them in Jr. High back then but you can just buy them now.
Now I want to play Nibbles. Man we loved that game.

@ThatOneDude It's y'all. Don't be such a monster, butchering the English language all willy nilly.

@Ganymede that sounds like functional vs dysfunctional.
You're a lawyer, I'm an accountant. We both know people get whackado over money.
