@too-old-for-this I also am now thinking this is why he is very insistent when I'm in Zoom meetings, and he gets his dose of "Logie Bear!" Or "Hey Buddy!" He insists on sitting ON ME somehow. Like these people he can hear and can't smell are going to come out of the screen and get me.

@too-old-for-this I wonder if this is why my dog is always so curious when I'm in a Zoom.

RE: The Work Thread
So this morning, there is a meeting - boss has no idea what it is (or so he says). Log in, show up, say hello. It's training for taking messages for that other project, for the call center from the City.
This is NOT my job. My job is outreach - AKA I make the calls out to the consumer/client/whatever you want to call them.
Last year, they tried to force me to do call center. I told them sure - as soon as they pay me what the people working in the call center make. (They live in one of the more expensive cities in the world, yes, they're making more than me) Subject got dropped.
So today after this little meeting/training/etc, I called my boss. "This is call center. WHY did you spend so much time hounding me to learn this project, just to take me off it? This is /not/ in my job description. I took this job to get AWAY from call center environments."
So now I need to do research and see if I refuse to do something not in my job description/something with a higher pay rate for those whose job it is, if I can get unemployment if they fire me for it.
If @Ganymede or @derp have any insight, or can point me in the right direction, I will adore you.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@catsnake Yeah, but this has nothing to do with what happened on the set.
this is stupid kids, getting drunk, and doing something dumb. Was she wrong to give her boyfriend the keys? Obviously. It was dumb to let either of them ride. But she may have been drunk too, who knows.

RE: RL things I love
@tinuviel I leave the feet out of it. Because with my luck, it would be more like "Slip on tile, try to catch self, rip towel bar out of the wall, hit head on bathtub, die from head trauma"
..with the added indignity of being naked and chubby.

RE: RL things I love
Decided to do some self care after shitty work day.
Nose strip - Satisfying.
Heating charcoal mask - All right.
Long hot shower with a moisturizing hair mask - ahhh
Body oil right out of the shower, and having super soft skin - HELL YES. -
RE: Oh, Humanity
@carma I honestly have forgotten it, by now. He had been offline for quite some time (and to be frank, the youngest he could be now is mid 80s)
-
RE: Oh, Humanity
@carma Charlie was also hysterical. I told him I was getting ready to quit. And he asked me if he could give me his messenger name. When AIM finally died, I was sad. Because we hadn't been able to exchange anything in a while. So.. no more Charlie in my life. But I still think of him often.

That said, most ISP's can run cable through the walls/ceiling/etc. so that you can use a secondary modem/router to get an ethernet connection to your bedroom. But they will charge you for it.
Hence why I am not doing this option. I think I would probably need the complex's permission, too, and.. they're not super reliable on getting things done.
And this is why Genie now refuses to work for companies that try to insist that I use my own PC, provide no stipend to cover basic internet or work-related WFH expenses (desk, chair, etc.). They are already saving a fuckton of money in the lack of building lease, insurance costs, repairs and maintenance on said buildings, etc. They can afford to cover the cost of a laptop with the software they wish me to use, the internet I will need to do the job, and any reasonable purchases that need to be made to set up a home office.
And now you know I am in the hunt for a new job.

RE: The Work Thread
Now, because the IT gurus have stated it must be my wifi, my boss' boss is trying to insist I run ethernet. I said sure, I could do it.
But I don't have the cable, and I'm not buying it. Also, because it would have to come down the hallway and through a doorway, it could create a tripping hazard. Also, it would likely prevent my door to my bedroom (where I work when having bad pain flares) from closing, and reducing privacy (which is BS, because my roommate DGAF, anyhow.)

RE: Oh, Humanity
And Charlie actually had met the boyfriend at the time, whose name was Matt. So.. yeah. Man was on point.

RE: Oh, Humanity
So, back when I worked in retail, I was often the only one in my store (Posters, pictures, canvas reproductions, framing, etc etc). And I would often be alone there for HOURS. No way to take an actual break, etc.
But I did get to know the mall walkers. There was one little duo (sometimes trio). Charlie and Dave (and sometimes Dave's wife, when she was up to it.) They would wave hello and say good morning every day. I would sometimes be at the front of the store to make sure everything looked right, and they'd stop and chit chat a couple minutes. Just absolute SWEETHEART people.
Charlie, one day, was solo (Dave and his wife whose name I could swear was Flora, but...it's been a long time - were on vacation), was taking his time, because he told me he was going to do extra laps so he could have a 'fat man's lunch'. A guy kept walking back and forth in front of my store, and I was working at the counter, doing I don't remember what. Guy finally comes in, and is just.. browsing. Fine, happens all the time. We had a LOT of posters and pictures, etc.
He leaves when someone else comes in, and later comes back. At this point, we're reaching creep meter making the back of my neck itch. Charlie, gods love him, swings on in, casual as could be. "Hey, sweetheart, your aunt called about dinner tonight. Your mom and I didn't know if you'd be there, or if you were bringing Matt." Bliiiiiiink. Flash a bright smile. "Oh, sure, Dad. I'll pick up Matt after work, and we'll head over. Should I bring anything?"
He lingers another couple minutes, and looks at the dude dead-on. Dude made TRACKS. We proceed to cover our mouths to try and smother the laughter. THEN? He brought me take out from the place he went for 'Fat Man's Lunch' (Place gives very generous portions), so I can eat without worrying about closing the gate and all that crap, and my boss doesn't have a stroke.
Charlie also, a couple months later, found out it was my birthday, and waited for me to get out at 2, to ask me if he could take me for lunch. Yes. We went to the place he went for Fat Man's Lunch. It was delicious.
So many good mornings at that job involved Charlie and Dave.

RE: The Work Thread
So I've been having issues with my workspaces just disconnecting, going black screen, eventually kicking me out so I can try to get back in.
Happened yesterday in the middle of 'training', and just kept it up.
Called IT. Left a message.
This morning, I log in, and it starts all over again. Text Boss, call IT. Leave a message after horrible hold music for 15 minutes and being told they have a high call volume.
Boss texts me that his boss says that his boss states "you will need to do the 7 cases as soon as you log in." Now, I can't get in, and 7 cases in this project is more than the people who have year+ in this project are being assigned. How the FUCK is this Kosher?
ETA: I finally got in. After being told that it's all my fault, because I'm running on wifi. A - I play fairly intense video games - on wifi. Suck my nuts.
B - I'm not buying a big ass ethernet cable to run down my hallway. You want to insist? They can buy it for me.
C -I got into Teams, to find that 2 IT morons had messaged me to ask me if I had solved my log in issue. When there is no way I could have seen the messages, if it wasn't solved. Cracker jack work there, assholes.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@ganymede I once had a friend ask me for a perfume oil with a lot of plant notes. I looked up from the notes I'd taken and said "You know that'll smell like..."
Liz: "Weed? Oh yeah, I know. I want to get pulled over and have some cop think I've got it" (before it was decriminalized, here.)
-
RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@tnp That is a thing. I know how to do it, but everyone has their own take/preference. Leather bound books, or just the old paper smell, etc etc

I do admit to liking the leather scent, though. But, I mean, new leather smell. So like... Leather + Sage/Vetiver? Fuck yeah, I'm down.
Hi. I see you've been into some of my mixes.

Thinking someone is your friend until you find out he's a homophobic misogynist who only likes you because you're one of the good ones so he doesn't mean any of it about you.
I love how a single statement both hurts and pisses me off.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@derp I do custom scents (Though for cold process, probably not, that's bigger batch stuff than the other stuff I do.
But yes, I could make you stuff that is neither Axe-nasty, tastes like you ate a christmas tree, or makes you smell like you... well.
I do a lot of fandom scents, too, which I love.
I so want to dive full on back into making. Gah.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@ganymede no, this is something I've been doing, just not the cold process stuff. I finally have the place/support/etc to make the CP stuff work.
In a fantasy world, I would eventually be able to quit the rat race and make nice smelling things all day long, instead.
