There's a word for it, finding joy in others' happiness, but it is Sunday and I am too lazy to look it up.

@reimesu Basically, it's someone on camera on like Twitch, generally with some sort of music in the background - low-fi, or whatever floats the streamer/chat's boat.

The one I discovered today, she sets a timer for like an hour, then there's a short break, etc. And having someone there, even if they're just on camera, it's like body doubling for people with ADHD.

I often want a pop up video style trivia and details for shows about everything. Learning is engaging.

@Ghost I wouldn't say I have nothing to show for it. Quite the contrary.

I have fantastic friends who I went on to meet IRL and who became an important part of the fabric of my life and who I wouldn't give up for anything. People who have had my back, enriched my world, and made life better for me just for being there.

There were times in my life when I was in such a black hole of misery that being able to jump on and talk nerd shit with MUSHers, or be involved in some story where I needed to know what happened next or where I was aware my character's absence would be detrimental to other people's...I mean...sometimes that gave me a reason to hold on and thus I am still here. Not saying that's universal for everyone but. No. I wouldn't say, at all, that it's brought nothing to my life.

And that's why, right alongside seeing the benefits of not doing it, I miss it, and am aware of what it's costing me to not do it.

@kk That's the hardest part; setting boundaries.

On one hand, you don't want to say something that will judge/dodge you out of roleplay, so you (rhetorical you) do your best to come across as easy to work with and accommodating. On the other hand, not setting boundaries up front is something 10x easier to do with someone you already have rapport with. Sometimes players will outright decide not to RP with you if you say you're not looking for TS or relationship RP. There's definitely a subtle art to asserting your boundaries -and- coming across as worth roleplaying with.

@Juniper That's kind of the best resolution to that kind of petty stomping out. "Ok. Bye." sounds of fun being had without them.
