    • RE: How do you keep OOC lounges from becoming trash?

      @ThatGuyThere

      Yet, that wasn't what you posted. You can miss me with the condescending shit of 'well this theme has communal living' and actually respond the way you did in this part, then, if you had read it all. I can see a /point/ in this reply, rather than just talking down at me. Whether or not we agree on it.

      Yes, ICly, you can see what someone is doing in another bunk. But having somewhere to put your charbit when you are logged in and don't want to interact with others is perfectly reasonable. Even if you ICly can see everything that someone else is doing, doesn't mean they want to RP with you. If they don't, they'll take it elsewhere. No reason to police this shit as being 'what is IC'.

      Edit to add: If you don't think they'll take it elsewhere, you are wrong. I have seen a lot of people in Pern theme where you are post-Hatching and living in a barracks take scenes to gdocs or in a barely used part of the grid to spoof out to get a scene in with a particular person that is premised based on a wanted interaction. (A quiet moment between two characters that maybe had a relationship before, between a student/teacher, etc.)

      Edit to add: Obviously I was speaking as a generic 'you'. If someone doesn't want to RP with someone (or anyone else except the person they /want/ to RP with), then that is the you I am referring to. Not @ThatGuyThere. Though I can see how he'd make the mistake.

      Someone didn't read my full-post. Instead, they wanted to mansplain shit to me like I wouldn't understand that people could live in 'communal' spaces.

      Aw, come on. Anywhere. Give them personal rooms or 'quiet' rooms they can idle in without spamming each other. ... Then let channels do what they're there for, with a history function so they can be monitored by staff for abuse (as opposed to 'X said Y ten minutes ago' and sending logs back and forth after the fact).

      Personal rooms don't fit every game theme, and as previously mentioned I already have a quiet room if you want to opt out of chit-chat. Also you're assuming the history function is enabled, which not all games do.

      Oh come on, what theme doesn't fit with a 'personal room'? Are your characters literally /never/ alone? It doesn't even have to be a 'room'. You could have a 'barracks' and have a 'bunk' room for each person off it. There are plenty of ways to work in a place where a character can go just to put their bit without having to be around others that would work just the same as a quiet room but also give the player some breathing room to do other things.

      (Not TS. I am talking about like-- When I was on Arx, I idled in my room and chatted on channels, and even @emit'd some object formatting to my room to see what I'd get.)

      When you talk in a video game, and get assaulted with a slur of inappropriate 12-year-old-boy trying to be clever about suggesting sexual shit. (Because you are female, obviously. That guy was lucky we were in comp and I didn't sacrifice my rank to not heal him.)

    • RE: What do you play most?

      There's no Pern on the poll. I spent a lot of time on Pern. I've played superheroes and like it, too. I do prefer fantasy over sci-fi; I hardly ever stick on a game that's set in the future or space.

      Just trying my first WoD game now.

      I've always thought about vaping but I never tried. I may try to transition. Any good brands you'd recommend that won't explode in my pants?

      Well. Not the only house. Tyde also only has one living noble. It makes sense not to let someone app something that steps on existing canon.

      Sylvie is an only child; if someone came and was like the only thing I want to play is your sibling then I would be like well you can't, too.

      No, I did not know staff before this game. I have not had your experience with staff, not that I am saying it is any less valid. I know I did have apprehension approaching them in the beginning, because that is just how it is for me in approaching new, unknown staff and asking for things. I am sure I have been misunderstood, but I can't think of an incident off the top of my head. I know I have had my disagreements with Apos, at least, and I can think of multiple times.

      I do think transparency would help in most situations, certainly. Definitely in this one.

      I am sorry for what you are feeling right now.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

      I wish I knew more about the situation. Nothing happens in a vacuum. There's never one straw and never just one interaction. I am not staying quiet out of fear of retaliation; I have spoken my mind openly to staff, politely I hope, when I disagree. But we've only vaguely heard one side, and that really isn't something I can call anyone on.

      Do I think @lordbelh is a good roleplayer? Yes. Do I think he seems pretty fair? Yes. I do also think that he can come across a little gruff and terse. I certainly had a few situations with him where I didn't appreciate something he did. (And by a few, I literally mean like, two.) I am sure he has thought the same of me.

      But I have also had enough interactions with staff to have trust in them. They have dealt fairly with me and people that I know. They have gone out of their way to be helpful and create stories. Do I think they have made mistakes? Sure. Every new game does.

      So without more from both sides, I don't want to put my foot into my mouth and speak out for either.

      Anyways. More two cents for the day that anyone can take for what they will.

      @Arkandel

      I was going to say something fancy and eloquent, but I will just say that I wasn't trying to point out any one person, player, or character. It is understandably fun to play flawed, to play the antagonist. I am more than happy to play against that. I just think that as a whole, culturally, you also have to be aware of how you're coming across to others. And that is valid too for the rest of the factions, that we should be aware too.

      As a side note, I do need to RP with Castiel. PLEASE.

      @Clarity

      That has not been my experience. Not regarding @lordbelh or you in particular, but Thrax as a whole has been weirdly exclusive in a number of ways that were just-- odd? Making Donrai's funeral private and secretive is the thing that comes to mind right off the top of my head, but there were a number of incidents. I don't know if it was the culture that was built or not, or whatever. But I don't think the players in Thrax have been particularly helpful of the Thrax vs the world mentality by their actions.

      That's my two cents. Take it for whatever it is worth.

      @Goyim

      ... No. There can be bad players within a week of a game opening. I mean, the time of a game doesn't relate to whether a player is or isn't ban-worthy. Implying that is silly.

      Eh, don't be sarcastic wasn't the post. It was don't be abusive or passive aggressive. Basically, be polite. Which I think we can all agree is a good rule to follow with staff and with fellow players.

      I am joining @Roz in saying this is not commentary on the incident, since I certainly don't know what happened.
