RE: RL things I love
Taking a younger friend to a Korean BBQ place for the first time and informing them that they have to pour my Soju with both hands and look away when I am drinking otherwise they'll be breaching ancient rites of Korean restaurant etiquette. I swear if you've never done this you've got to try it. Endlessly entertaining.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@EmmahSue Out of curiosity, I've wondered a few times about the rationale behind making the Hog Pit opt-in rather than opt-out? It is much easier to see something, say 'Do Not Want' and opt out of it than it is to not see something, say 'Do Want Thing I Do Not Know Exists But Would Like To See' and opt-in.
It has turned the Hog Pit into a semi-secret tabloid that people share self-serving tidbits from to their buddies via pages/Skype/smoke-signals instead of an open-forum that people have the option of ignoring. Ignorance is bliss, but there's much to be said for an informed public as well, not that I'm claiming the Hog Pit is the Freedom Press or anything.

RE: What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?
Make an original system that meshes with your game world instead of wrapping tentative threads of suspended disbelief around your theme to make it work with someone else's cast-off system. Then publish it so it meets this thread's criteria & someone else can leech off of it instead of following my advice.

@Thenomain Oh, I thought Arx's system was taken from L5R ... (speaking of tangents)
IIRC, it was asked on Arx's public channel a while back and a staffer indicated that they weren't aware of what L5R even is.

@Three-Eyed-Crow
I agree with the second portion of your post, but as for your suspicions regarding the audience, I have to disagree. Plenty of active posters play new games and spend a fair chunk of time giving unsolicited advice about how new games should do things, even after being politely but firmly informed that said game will do things their own way. I'm sure such things are well intentioned so I'm not in any way blowing a fuse about it. -
RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
A game is 'doing it right' when it doesn't wind up on WORA/MSB. That said, I think games that voluntarily advertise on MSB are very brave and open-minded, though they should keep in mind that they'll be attracting a specific sort of crowd that is heavily biased toward 'The Way We Do Things Just Because It's How We Do It'. I enjoy MSB for what it is and for reasons I mentioned earlier in the thread. But I'd never voluntarily bring any game I play to anyone's attention here; my internet life has been very peaceful this year since the MU I play primarily isn't on MSB and most people there either don't know what MSB is or are scandalized/terrified by what they read here. So to that end, MSB does serve a noble purpose, it is a deterrent against abuse because if you're bad you wind up here.

Or to vaguely cast shade at someone they don't know about their motivations.
Cute, feeling guilty? But no, it's happened to me.

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
I really, really like to argue. I like the occasional debate as well, but I really like arguing. MSB satisfies that itch for me. It's rare I venture out of the Hog Pit, there's only so many conversations about cookie-cutter WoD games I can read. But that said, MSB is a good place for people of all walks-of-gaming to come together and hate on each other while packaging their griping as constructive criticism. That or to post logs of people they used to be friends with but who don't like them anymore so they're terrible people now. YMMV

RE: RL Anger
@Tinuviel Is it legal in your country to draw graffiti, or preach in public places the merits of child pornography, or to walk the streets naked? Most places have laws limiting how people can express themselves, if only because people are not particularly prone to discretion when not hemmed in by some enforced boundaries.

@Bobotron Nope! Tooooooooooootally different kids, they like wildly separate things. XD What will happen is lots of fighting as the older attempts to force the younger to play fighting games with him that the younger one knows he can't win so will just fuck around on... which pisses off the older one more.
This is totally why I refuse to have a second child; my daughter has multiple personalities (she thinks she is Raphael and sometimes Donatello from the ninja turtles) but she is obsessed with frilly tutus, fart jokes, *killer-robots, and old-school Ghostbusters cartoons. Simply put, there is no way she would ever be compatible with another innocent human being & the idea of trying to make her get along with another child breaks me out in a cold sweat. Nope, I'm good. I don't want that stress - one kid is enough for me!
Enclosed is the VERY FIRST drawing-with-a-caption she ever made after learning to read:
Note the careful labeling of the body parts: Ray gun, head. Because apparently that's all that really matters. The caption at the bottom is cut off because I was using a shoddy cell phone camera - but yes, it says 'le Plan'. She was born to be a cheesy Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain.
I won't be having another. I already feel mildly apprehensive about the one I've got, but at least she's not old enough to talk politics at Thanksgiving dinner... yet.

RE: RL Anger
Stop asking which came first, the goddamned chicken or the egg. The egg came first; a natural-born chicken HAS to come out of an egg, but the egg could have been the malformed/irradiated/evolutionary product of some closely-related creature.

Sitting on the phone with my ISP for upwards of 2 hours as they transfer me from one rep to another.
Motherfucker I double dog dare you to suggest I unplug my modem one more motherfucking time.

RE: RL Anger
I have to go to work and face the people I called incredibly stupid and naive for thinking Trump had a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Including my boss. I literally feel sick. And I mean literally-literally, not figuratively-literally. I would cry but I'm still in shock. I live in a country that's so racist and awful that it elected Donald Trump. Where is @Cirno, I am @Cirno-levels of black-and-angry today.

RE: RL Anger
@Vorpal So sorry for your loss, I literally can't even imagine. I'm glad you were able to be there and let her see you again before she passed, those small comforts are all that matter in the end.

RE: RL things I love
Took my mini-me to Edventure for their Halloween Hoopla event (because trick or treating door-to-door in a state that voted for Trump is dangerous) and when we got home she said 'On a scale of one to ten this night was THE BEST NIGHT EVER!!' and so I win everything. Life is good.

RE: RL Anger
Pro-life.
They sure got the better end of the deal when it came to naming those two stances, didn't they? If you're not pro-life, what are you? Pro-death, apparently. I'm pro-people having the right to do what is best for themselves and their health; mentally, physically, emotionally, and financially. Those are choices, so I'm pro-choice. If you're not pro-choice, you're pro-people having their personal options ripped out of their hands. Let's call 'pro-life' that instead.

RE: RL things I love
My bestie Chief got me the instax mini 8, and it is just the cutest thing ever in the world. I had a Polaroid when I was younger and I was grumpy it wasn't a new digital camera so I used it for like, one pack of instant pictures, never picked it up again, and promptly lost it or broke it or something. Fast forward to 2016 and all things retro are 'fetch' right? Well this thing is as lo-tech as could possibly be, there's not even a zoom function, lol. It's adorable though, and it turns out EVERYONE loves instant pictures, every time you take one everyone in the immediate vicinity wants to see how it came out, my coworkers were utterly obnoxious about it. So anyway, this is today's RL thing I love. -
RE: RL things I love
The song 'Closer'. Everything about this song is so chill, and it makes me happy in the sort of way only pop music can.
Also, alcohol. My department at work is sneaking mini-bottles into our local bowling alley tomorrow, we're going to get trashed and roll gutter balls and razz the show-offs that actually try to do well and I'm going to demand they play Closer and it's so nice to actually love your job, which I realize I do. So there.
I might be on my way to being drunk. I don't work Fridays, I can be drunk on a Thursday afternoon. I love that, too.
