    • RE: Searching For A Game

Depending on what you're into there's three games that I'm more or less actively playing on. They're all based on the Ares Engine so have full web portal functionality to play via web and client. (I purely play via portal because I find it much less stressful!)

      1. Crystal Springs - A game where you play an actor starring in a 24/7-esque television show where you play a high school student in the California city of Crystal Springs. Very active, lots of friendly players and ways to get involved in stuff. Also Pacha, the site creator/admin/ST, is fantastic.

      2. The Network - Another game where you are an actor but this time it's for a place called The Network. You don't have any solid memories of who you were before coming to the Network and the theme rotates every few months. Each show you take on the entirety of your Season character and don't have any memories of anything else until you come back to the Dome - which is the place the Actors live between Seasons.. Now is an excellent time to check it out because the previous season just finished so all the Actors are back in the Dome and the next Season will be starting in a few months or so. Very active with lots of friendly players here too and lots to get involved in if you wish.

      3. Gray Harbor - Set in the PNW, in Washington, Gray Harbor is a modern supernatural setting. It's fallen from the activity that it used to have but it is starting to gain steam again and there are several dedicated players who are still around and very welcoming. The best way to describe the setting to me is if you like Stephen King, you'll love this. I often like to think of 'It' and even 'The Shining' as good examples. So if you like the idea of having some psychic like abilities and supernatural things messing with you this is it! This is the game that utilizes the Web Portal for Ares the most of the three - in the sense that the time zones are often all spread out so a lot of the scenes are Asynchronous so everyone can participate.

      Truth!

@faraday is always so patient with me when I have issues the few servers I help tech support (especially that Discord Bot stuff!). No matter how many times I ask the same question too. She's the best.

Also Ares is a fantastic platform and it really makes the hobby a lot more user friendly, which means people are more open to giving it a try!

I have tried out MUSHs before, but it had felt very difficult to really get into anything. I took a chance on Calaveras since I wanted a break from the other text RP site I am a part of and I'm glad I did. The people are great, the rp is great, and I am loving every moment of it.

Obsidian Reverie is back with it’s newest iteration, Obsidian Reverie: Ascendency.

Obsidian Reverie: Ascendancy is a Chronicles of Darkness 2e AresMUSH chat game set in a futuristic, cyberpunk world. The main setting is ‘The City’, a sprawling Mega City that never sleeps. Do you thrive in the seedy Undertow? Do you strive to climb the ladder of the Megacorps to carve out a better life for yourself? Maybe you’re trying to undermine the Megacorps to punish them for past wrongs. Whatever your goal, your lot in life, there’s a spot for you here in The City.

We have utilized the Ascendency shard in VtR: Guide to the Night along with elements from Mirrors: Bleeding Edge and inspirations such as Shadowrun 5e and Altered Carbon to work on the setting.

      Venues Offered:

        *Deviant

        *Mortal/+

    • Elseverse: A DC and Marvel Game

Elseverse is an Elseworlds inspired game that asks, "What if?"

What if Superman never landed on Earth?
What if a zombie virus swept through a world populated by superhumans?
What if the heroes and villains we know existed in another time? Another place?

We're looking to see how familiar characters are adapted and changed by their surroundings. At Elseverse, you'll play a canon comic character from either the DC or Marvel universe and explore how they would exist in a world unlike their own. The game features different worlds that will cycle out to give players a chance to explore a variety of themes and settings while also exploring what defines their character.

We are just coming out of our Alpha with our full launch on June 1st, diving headfirst into our new timeline - a post-Apocalyptic one where the heroes' resolve are put to the test in a world where they have already lost the Earth to a tyrannical conqueror!

Players are encouraged to come check it out, ask questions, and claim characters!

@ZombieGenesis said in What Types of Games Would People Like To See?:

@Wizz I wish fewer people would not get hung up on this concept. Get Ares, add a profile tab that supports PDF files(I can show you how if need be), have character sheets done via PDF with +dice support if need be. I'd play the crap out of a He-Man/She-Ra game and FAE works very well for it I think. 🙂

Just have to drop my 2 cents in agreement here. I run a WoD game off Ares and we use Google Sheets for the character sheets. Embedded into the Background Tab after approval. So you definitely don't need to have any knowledge of coding to start up your own MU - just have to get a little creative if it doesn't quite fit FS3/Fate/Cortex.

Especially because Faraday/the rest of the community is very helpful and hands on where there are issues that arise

It's so niche and probably just me but I've always thought a game where the gimmick is that all characters are inspired by different songs would be fun. There would probably have to be an overarching plot or something maybe but yeah

    • Portal of the Gods

      Hey everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster type deal here. Primarily doing an interest check but also looking for a couple extra hands who might be interested in helping me put this game together!

Once the game info is further along on the wiki I will update with actual website/MU connector information. We will be utilizing the AresMUSH platform!

      Portal of the Gods!

Welcome to the world of Orion. A place where magic and steam technology have found a way to grow together. A recent cataclysmic event has shaken the world to its core and has stretched across universes to pull people from different realities to Orion as well as displace native Orion inhabitants. Are you one of these people ripped from your home world and tossed into a strange land? How will you get home? Are you a native trying to deal with the loss and complications that these newcomers bring? How will you survive and thrive?

There are going to be 5 worlds - including Orion - that characters can be from. I am redoing concepts for 3 of the 5 because I want to really capture the feel of being thrust into a world you know nothing about and that is nowhere close to home.

      Orion and Earth Preview

Orion - where the game will take place - can be summed up as Steampunk meets D&D Forgotten Realms. There will be magic, steam tech, magitech, and gods that still exist though with their influence weakening Portals have begun to pop up all over that lead in to their realms - ready to be pillaged IF you think you can survive.

Earth - Of course earthlings would get all wrapped up in some kind of cosmic shenanigans! At the time of the cataclysm Earth was in its year 2100 and was heading towards a very Shadowrun-esque vibe (minus the magic). There was a rise in bioware (which is any kind of cybernetic limb, implant, etc being put on/in a person’s being) along with Cyborgs and AI-implanted robots with synthetic human-looking features. So human, ‘borgs, and AI beings transported to Orion will be rather out of their element.

If you are interested in helping bring this game to life feel free to message me!

I am looking for a couple people to assist with lore and world building as well as an extra hand on the back end.

    • Interest Check: Time Travel Agency (Ares/FS3)

      Hello All!

Inspirations: Steins;Gate, Umbrella Academy, Travellers, Doctor Who

A friend and I had an idea for a thing and we're fleshing out more information but also figured an interest check was important. We would be using the FS3 System + Ares.

We're envisioning something similar to the Time Agency from Umbrella Academy where all PCs would be agents for this Time Agency. There's going to be different varieties of agent and three different types of 'time travel': Sending information back, projecting yourself into the body of someone in the past (including yourself) (ala Travellers), and then physically traveling back in time.

The broad sketch is that though the Agency is in a place similar to Earth but outside of time and space,it is far, far into the future by our terms. Like thousands of years. Over these year the Agency has used time travel to stop a multitude of calamities that brought their world into a utopia but, as a result has also created Paradoxes (blips in the time streams that can be just about anything) that need to be cleaned up. Which is where the PCs come in!

There will be an element of crafting/developing new gadgets/items. There might be some low-level psychic powers but it is primarily going to be more tech focused with the sci-fi element of multiple parallel universes and things of that nature. Player actions will heavily influence the timelines as the effects of their actions cause ripples and possibly even divergences from the original timeline they travelled to.

While there will be ST Run plots, players will also be more than welcome to submit ideas for plots they would like to run for other players within the guidelines that we will be laying out.

      Glossary:

Divergence - Possible outcomes seen by The Committee as a result of a Paradox. They ultimately decide which Divergence they want the Agents to try for and roll out missions based on that.

Paradox - A blip in the timeline, major or minor, that needs to be resolved in one manner or another before the timeline spirals into chaos.

Mission(s) - A set of orders given by The Committee to be followed as pertains to taking care of the Paradox (I.E: Killing 10 soldiers, rescuing a rare species of lizard, or burning down a corn field). The missions might not make sense to the agents but The Committee sees the big picture and knows how it all fits together.

    • RE: Elseverse: A DC and Marvel Game

It's been a while but wanted to post another Update!

We are continually learning and adapting and ironing out kinks. After experimenting with some fun sandboxy themes were are excited to announce our next Plot-Driven theme which is set to officially start on October 29th.

Shadows Over New York will be a 1920s, fully powered setting. You can read the full timeline page here: https://elseverse.aresmush.com/wiki/timeline:earth-son

The big apple in the 1920's: a proliferation of illegal alcohol, smoke, jazz, and a certain lack of concern for the law. After all, the cops are in on it. The criminals are in on it. Hell, even the heroes ain't all saints in this City. Day by day, it only seems to get a little darker, a little weirder, and a little less safe for those who try to only walk in the light.

There's a well-known speakeasy for those of a certain nature, just a flight of steps down from a Manhattan subway entrance and a few blocks away from the Flatiron Building. They call it Limitless. A thing that will last no matter the change in the ever growing rush of the city.

It's for the heroes, the villains, the cops who steal and the cops who rise above, to put aside their allegiances - at least for a drink.

Yet as the City grows darker, those who live at its fringes, both the highest peaks and the lowest lows, must come together to navigate a new threat beyond day to day crime and conviction. They must fight the shadows that threaten to swallow the city whole, a horror that has no name, no known origin, but creeps insidiously as a rat along a pipe. It wants to swallow the City.

It's up to them to stop it. Or embrace it. One way or another, the City is never gonna be the same.

      Hey everyone!

Just wanted to drop an update. Elseverse has officially been out of Alpha and in it’s Beta phase for nearly a month! Time flies.

We learned a lot with our first timeline (Steampunk) and have learned even more with our second, current timeline (Apocalypse). We are about halfway through Apocalypse and going strong with plenty of Marvel and DC slots open and a poll is up to decide our next theme.

This poll will end on 6/30 and the new theme will begin on August 1st, at which point Steampunk will completely phase out (for now!) and Apocalypse will transition into its Epilogue (Sandbox) phase.

Feel free to drop in and check us out!

Honestly it sounds like Beast the Primordial because they are living nightmares essentially. But the mechanics are kinda eh so I'd figure out someway to pare them down or just use them as a basis for a homebrewed thing.

City of Mists could also be a starting point because from what I know of it, it's living legends and kind of superhero ish.

Gothic horror + OC Supers sounds like an interesting theme for sure though. Lots of opportunity for interesting storytelling.
