      Yeah, it's universally accurate that eating at a caloric deficit will make you lose weight. What, precisely, is lost--that's a wholly separate issue.

      I've been doing intermittent fasting, which apparently has some benefits re: glycogen depletion yada yada yada, but honestly the best part of it for me is just that I have fewer periods of time in which to stuff my face. I am a terrible late-night snacker. Turning that off is very helpful.

      Yeah, at least in the Western churches. The Eastern Orthodox call the Easter festival Pascha.

      That wouldn't be cultural appropriation. Nicene Christianity is the evolution of a apocalyptic messianic sect of Judaism that arose during the late Second Temple era. It shares a lineage with Rabbinic Judaism, which evolved from the practices of the Pharisees after the destruction of the Second Temple. Modern Judaism and modern Christianity are more siblings than parent/child, though certainly modern Judaism bears a great deal more resemblance to its forebears than the sect that ended up overshadowing the more orthodox practices.

      And I am definitely not going to get into the theology of that tangled relationship. Hoo boy.

      I'm saying that because the two traditions share the common ancestor of 2nd Temple Judaism, the use of Passover in a Christian context is not appropriation. Cf. Christians trying to celebrate Hanukkah by lighting chanukkiot, which is cultural appropriation--that tradition arose after the life of Jesus and the destruction of the Temple. It is solidly a holiday of Rabbinic Judaism and is inappropriate for Christians to celebrate.

      Nicaea 1. Second council was about iconoclasm and happened about 400 years after Constantine died.

      I was prescribed this once. I stopped taking it after a month because I noticed no difference at all. It led me to assume, for a long time, that it was one of those drugs that doesn't actually do anything and doctors prescribe it just to shut people up.

      Oh, it works for me. I've just taken it for a very long time, and my body has grown used to it. When I first started taking it, it made everything feel incredibly cozy. Like you were curled up by a fire drinking hot cocoa.

      As I said, I've almost certainly developed a dependency by this point, but it still does a hell of a job at stopping high anxiety in its tracks.

      And, you know. Memory. High level cognition. Awareness. Reflexes. Stops those in their tracks, too...

      That's horrible. But don't blame yourself. You should be able to trust your doctor, and so many are so careless with prescriptions. I'm lucky to have a wonderful psychiatrist, and we've kept my dose at 0.5 mg/bd with another 0.5 mg/bd as needed. So I take 1 - 2 mg per day. My dose hasn't changed in a year (hence the dependency and the lack of feel-goods), but I've seen what benzos have done to so many of my clients.

      They're lifesavers, but they should be treated with way more respect by prescribers than they are.

      TLJ was a good and iconoclastic movie, and it got rid of a lot of the dross that allowed RoS to be as good as it was.

      As a point of fact, Thrawn was reintroduced into canon after the Great Canon Purge. Disney had already nuked the EU by then. They've brought back some things; Rakata Prime is shown in an official map, so the name at least survives.

      Is there any evidence of it being intentional? 24 is young, but people can and do die unexpectedly at that age. DVT was actually my first thought when I read the article.

      Oh, I'm not focusing at all. This is awful.

      This guy is currently arguing for complete automation of literally all pleadings. I'm deciding whether or not I want to ask questions if he asks for them.

      @Ghost

      Yeah I called him out on it. "You mentioned bond reductions, which I can see working really well with the bail schedules which are common. But the jurisprudence is moving toward declaring those unconstitutional--how do you automate something that requires analysis of multiple factors?"

      His response was something along the lines of "the program gives you multiple choice and provides text boxes for you to type your arguments in, and then inserts it into the motion for you."

      Yeah, bud. Bet that leads to great and organic writing.

      @Derp

      Our paralegal doesn't do motion work. Only attorneys and law clerks do, and we do them all from scratch, with small and obvious exceptions like headers and closings/certificates of service. We've caught out the state on multiple issues because they were responding to typical discovery requests instead of what we had actually requested.

      I very strongly disapprove of doing motions by rote, but also work in a discipline where motions are everything.
