This stuff can seem like you're permanently fucked

Eh, it's in a spot that's not easily visible and that I don't care about. The doctor recommended some creams and I'll try them but honestly I don't care about a weird discoloration that nobody sees.

ETA: speaking of people not seeing stuff. Swimsuits. While transitioning. Oh my gosh the unrelenting horror

Thank you so much. My psychiatrist suggested it as a diagnosis but we're still exploring treatment options. So I'm trying to learn more healthy management techniques online.

ETA: @surreality ooh I love Gothic architecture!

@insomniac7809 said in Good or New Movies Review:

So Candyman (which is, to be clear, one of my favorite movies ever made) is a story about black people who have been abused, but as the Other. Our viewpoint is the white middle-class academic woman menaced by a black bogeyman.

So, while I agree with literally everything you've written here, I watched Candyman for the first time last month, and I want to point out that I had to pause and rewatch the scene early on in the film where the protagonist (I don't do names. No memory) gets information from the black janitorial staff in the university. Because that scene absolutely nails the profound awkwardness of that kind of interaction, where the white woman is nice and blissfully unaware of how cautious the black staff are around her. I know it's a weird detail to be fixated on, but it was quite seriously my favorite scene of the film.

No I really honestly 100% agreed with everything you said, and I'm beyond stoked to see the new film for exactly the reasons you describe. I just wanted to gush about a really arresting scene, haha.

ETA: I never watched the sequels, so how are they dealing with the whole, uh... replacement thing that happens at the end of the original film?

Tomorrow I call my endrocrinologist and tell her that while I understand the need for me to come in and get blood work done,

      1. I don't give a fuck what her stance on telemedicine is, because
      2. there's a deadly pandemic going around, and
      3. if she keeps bitching at me about coming in in person I'll fucking fire her as my doctor and find someone else to give me spironolactone.

Not good if you have TMJ, like I do, but then again neither is chewing ice and taking abominable care of your teeth because of depression and never going to see a dentist because they'll hate you and judge you for being a terrible garbage person who doesn't take care of her teeth or even FLOSS

      like I also do

Universalist? I only know that word as a religious term, but it sounds like you mean it politically?

No, I mean it religiously. Lots of purgatory being discussed on the TL

If we're going to be super pedantic, he's a Battenberg. He's Mountbatten, she's Windsor, and their male children have the hyphenate Mountbatten-Windsor. Not sure what Anne got as her surname.

But really they're both Gothe-Saxe-Coburg or some shit.

look if you're gonna move into a lady's really nice house and get all her fancy stuff you can take her last name

      I don't make the rules

      (I do make the rules)

super pedantically, are there actually rules? My understanding was that though they belong to houses, the royals do not have surnames.

Yes, there's no state without the gewaltmonopol. I think the solution is to allow for the proliferation of collectives of various sizes, with the primary (perhaps sole) use of violence reserved for protecting individual rights, chief among them the right to move freely.

I was worried my kids were acting much the same way but they've started perking up a lot more. So I think I will thaw out more too eventually.

Kids are resilient, but keep an eye out for unusual behavior that lingers. I'm not trying to be an alarmist or say YOUR KIDS NEED THERAPY, but this has been tough on everyone, and psychological stuff is a lot easier to nip in the bud if you can catch it.

This applies to the rest of y'all, too, no matter your age. If your situation allows for it, I'd really strongly recommend seeing a counselor/lcsw/therapist for a couple of sessions just to let it out. And if you start displaying serious psychological symptoms, do everything you can to get help. Trauma is insidious.

      Take care of yourselves.
