authors do get hung up on certain words/terms it is true.
So it goes.
To quote literally every character on literally every page of literally every book Steven Erikson has written:
"Alas."

Until you realize that every third page you come across the phrase "and it was the easiest thing in the world."

RE: RL things I love
I just got an electric shaver for my face (I absolutely cannot stand dealing with my facial hair) and it is so good and so smooth and so perfect and I am very happy.

You've got socks, too. It's how I'm expressing myself pre-social transition.
...though my trans pride socks should be a pretty big flag to anyone familiar with trans issues.

@Ghost said in MU*, Youth, and LGBT+ Identity:
There are people who don't want to see (example) white straight men play anything other than.
The problem with this is that a lot of times people put out feelers about their IRL identity in games. The fact that I've always gravitated to RPing women, along with the facts that I don't participate in TS and don't get anything sexual out of roleplaying women, was one of the (many) puzzle pieces that led to me coming out to myself.

RE: MU*, Youth, and LGBT+ Identity
I had a character on Gray Harbor who was nonbinary, and I think that was, while not the single largest part of their identity (2nd gen Chinese, bboy/bgirl/bperson came before it), a pretty large one. But I also think that when you're in the present day and not in a setting where those things are necessarily widely accepted (my impression of WoD is that people are much less interested in your gender identity than they are in your likelihood to diablerize them), it can be a compelling factor in character development.
On places like Arx, though, where it's not an issue culturally, you can get really wonderful characters like Cybele, whose gender identity/non-identity was a part of a fantastic, fully-fleshed out character.

cough
As a trans woman...
Now that we've gotten that particular nauseating phrase out of the way, I've experienced a sense of alienation at times, but I think that's just people having long histories together and certain games being harder to break into than others. But even on the game that I've found easiest to get into, I've had to bulldoze my way into scenes more than once (read: I still do this on what's basically a weekly basis). I personally haven't experienced any sort of anti-queer sentiment, but I've only played on three games (Arx, Spirit Lake, Gray Harbor), and they have very progressive player bases (shoutout to @Kanye-Qwest for making Arx as amazing as it is in this regard).

That means that, after the termination, you either have to pay an additional half-month rent or the landlord is out a half-month rent.
Well, or the landlord tosses you out after giving the appropriate notice, which I think is 31 days before termination?

I, on the other hand, am happy to prosecute complaints against attorneys for failure to produce a client's file on request.
I don't like spending time that I could use for my client's benefit. You can rest assured that once I know I have to go after another attorney, I go for the jugular.

RE: Good TV
I've always loved the rotoscoping effect, ever since I saw a trailer for A Scanner Darkly. But it is definitely a bit odd, and I can totally see why it would make people uncomfortable.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
They basically mention it throughout the article, but this looks like a glaring example of correlation and not causation. Who drinks a lot of diet soft drinks? People at an unhealthy weight who are trying to watch their weight.

@Ganymede said in Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.:
If you are in a month-to-month tenancy, the payment terms, in the absence of a written document to the contrary, defaults to the prior lease.
Is this a common law thing? It is absolutely not the law here. Rent is due at the beginning of the term, absent law or agreement to the contrary (La. C.C. Art. 2703), and if a prior lease is continued after the cessation of the term, its term becomes indeterminate and (for purposes of residential lease) defaults to month-to-month (La. C.C. Art. 2680), meaning that rent is due at the beginning of the month.
Anyhoo, my legal real world peeve: I do not enjoy having to spend time writing up subpoenae duces tecum and request for disciplinary action on fellow defense attorneys. I would much rather said attorneys deliver the records of prior clients as mandated by law. This is an easier solution for all parties.
If you make me subpoena you I am not going to be nice. Nice time ended when I started having to spend my time getting you to do your job.

"it is
okaylegal to show nazi symbols and be a holocaust denier because, you know,WWII was fought to preserve free speecheven though WWII was fought against Nazis to eliminate geopolitical threats, jurisprudence suggests that it is less dangerous to allow people the right to voice highly objectionable political opinions, including Naziism, than it is to grant the government a foothold into the regulation of political speech"Fixed

RE: Good TV
I'm getting more and more excited about Picard.
I think we're getting Romulans, too. I'm assuming that the amazing thing that Picard is referenced as having done in the trailers has to do with helping evacuate Romulus or something related to the supernova disaster of Star Trek reboot movie fame/infamy.

RE: Good TV
Well, I just binge-finished season 3, and now I have to decide whether I'm going to read the books and spoil some of the best scifi I've ever seen on TV, or wait and risk having it spoiled.
...having seen that it's an ongoing series, I think I'm going to be making the switch to the books.

RE: Good TV
It's becoming increasingly likely that I'm going to read these books.
I love Avasarala. Then I remember that our introduction to her is her literally torturing a person, and it reminds me why this show is incredible. It's rare to see any scifi/fantasy that does such an amazing job of showing how people can be terrible and good at the same time.
Example: "You're not that guy. . . . I'm that guy."
