Here where I live (rural Southern MD), the cops will give you a ticket for standing in the divider. You're only supposed to cross at a crosswalk, but you can get away with crossing anywhere as long as you can get across the street in one go. This means no standing in the center turning lane, the median, etc. waiting for the other lanes to clear.

RE: Threads of Pern
The greens are female, IIRC so any male rider would be in for a hell of a confusing time when their dragon rose to mate. I don't see why that would automatically make the rider gay, but whatever. Anne sure did have some messed up ideas about homosexuality in general.

RE: Threads of Pern
It's been ages since I last read the books. I don't remember Mirrirm. Was she the one who lost her dragon because of Kylara?

RE: Tea!
Twining's English Breakfast Tea, loose, in the big red tin. Dilmah will do in a pinch.
Unless we're talking iced (cold) tea, in which case Luzianne. Accept no substitutes

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
@Fantom Maybe! Will hit you up on the game or RhostDev.

RE: ROGUE: It is coming...
Fantom, instead of shutting it down completely, would you maybe be willing to allow someone else to take over the project?

RE: Coming soon: Lawless Space MUSH
I feel that when done properly, coded systems like space and trading add depth and complexity to a game. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to do right. Make it optional and you may as well remove it altogether as it will have no real impact. Make it mandatory and some players will complain bitterly about having to do it.
I tend to aim coded systems at PVPers while providing alternatives for RPers. For example, RPers who do not wish to engage in space combat can choose to either use fast travel systems, or mark their vessels as un-attackable. Trading can be ignored completely by RPers with zero consequences, while PVPers can use it to upgrade/repair ships, and etc.

RE: RL Anger
Here in rural southern Maryland, earthquakes are pretty much unheard of. We have, however, had one small one (2.6, IIRC) about five years ago and let me tell ya, there's no way on earth I could have slept through it with all the noise from every board and ceiling tile trying to shake itself loose.

RE: TrekMUSH & Guardians of the Galaxy MUD
Trek works great as an RP setting for a small, intimate group of people (preferably with all of the command positions filled by NPCs so that the PCs are on more or less equal footing). It does not work so well for larger groups. Star Fleet's military structure means that everyone is forced to rely on their department head/CO/XO to do anything of significance. Most of the time, you're stuck with lame social RP, or RPing via +reports. Want to play a Romulan, Klingon or some other non-Federation character? Good luck with that. Don't want to play ChainOfCommand MU* or Federation Bureaucracy MU*? Then TrekMUs probably aren't for you.
TrekMUs have historically gotten around these problems by focusing on space combat, trading and such over RP. This is no longer a viable option as the only people left in the hobby are RPers who neither need nor want heavy code (the non-Rpers left for EVE Online, STO, SWToR, ED and similar games ages ago). The trick to getting people to play on TrekMUs again, is finding something fun and interesting for them to do, which is a hell of a lot harder than it sounds.

RE: Open Dates of New Games?
I have Torchwood Chronicles in the works, basically a scifi/paranormal investigation game set in the Dr Who universe. No opening date or anything yet as the project is only about a month old and it's just me and one other person working on it.

RE: Client suggestions
I use 3 regularly.
I use Atlantis on the Macbook, MUSHclient on the PC and VMOO when I am coding on a MOO or ColdMUD.
I like them all, but Atlantis is probably my favorite.

RE: World of Warcraft: Legion
I don't think that I will bother with this one. The last several times that I reactivated my account, I ended up logging on only once, then cancelling at the end of the month. I think I am "Warcrafted" out

RE: Pokemon Go
I wonder how they picked the locations to use for stops and gyms.
The really nice, upscale, safe and clean park right next to my house, has nothing. The park across town, in the open air drug market next to the homeless shelter, has 3 stops and a gym.

RE: Flights 'n Tights MUX
@Auspice You're so right about the 'bi' thing. Some of the reactions that I've gotten from people after telling them I was bi were so disappointing that I now just tell people that I am gay (even though it isn't strictly true).

RE: [PennMUSH] MUX-alike channel patch
@Seamus safe_atr_value() now takes two args rather than one. You can fix that easily by changing the code to something like
if (!a || !(av = safe_atr_value(a, "parse_chat_alias.av"))) {

RE: Star Trek MU*s
I think that a part of the problem is the lack of a currently running Star Trek series to catch people's interest. Another is the fact that without space combat and such, you're essentially a 'Federation Bureaucracy MU' which a lot of people, myself included, do not like. Then there's the paramilitary structure of Starfleet which leaves only 1-2 people in charge (this is especially a problem on single ship games). I've often been tempted to try making a non-Starfleet centric MU* to see if that might get people interested again, but who has the time?

RE: Star Trek MU*s
@Kosh They need to attract some players before they can implode. The whole attracting players bit isn't happening.
-
RE: Star Trek MU*s
There's only two that you could consider "active". One is a MOO (WNOHGB), and the other is a glorified space combat sim (ATS). Neither of them are canon Trek. No new Trek game seems to be able to get any traction. Not sure why.

RE: Pokemon Go
I can't believe that I was out in 94F heat today looking for Pokemon. It usually takes an act of Congress to get me out of the house in this kind of weather.
