Potato is 'meh'. When he fixes it so that SHIFT-INS (to paste) doesn't also toggle INSERT mode, I'll give it another look In the meantime, it's TF, Atlantis or nothing.

Crow about Pueblo or MXP as much as you want, it never made it into Mush-user-style clients because nobody convinced us why we'd want it, and to do that someone has to use it.
The biggest problem with things like MXP is, people would have to switch clients to use it, and trying to get people to use a different client is like trying to sell ice to Eskimos.
Then you have to take into consideration that most of your players won't be using the custom client to get the whiz-bang features anyway, which means you still have to do things the old fashioned way. This leads to wondering why you're bothering with it in the first place, with so little return on the huge investment of time and energy that went into it.
That's what happened with me, at any rate

I would give my left...I don't know, sock...to get MCP, or even GMCP. I had completely forgotten about it. Let people build their own clients on a metadata standard.
Meanwhile we've had MXP, Pueblo and MCP (on MUD type games and MUCKS, mainly) for over twenty years and virtually the entire MU* community has ignored them. Another new protocol that no one is going to use, isn't the answer. We're likely stuck with things the way they are now until whatever it is that will eventually replace MUSH type servers, makes an appearance.

Stop using a car to go places. Let your car insurance lapse, stop paying for gas, get a better bike, and some good saddle bags so that you can carry groceries and a laptop and stuff.
That might work great for people that live in the city, in an apartment, who just go to the grocery, entertainment venues and then work/home... but some of us actually NEED vehicles to get things done. I can't imagine hauling lumber, electrical supplies, etc on a bike.
It's not an option for those of us that live in the middle of nowhere, either. My area (Southern MD) is very rural and so spread out that you're pretty much screwed if you don't own a car.

MUSHclient has a compatibility mode that remaps the history keys to Control-P and Control-N. Perhaps you have that option checked?

RE: Spawns and How You Use Them
@Sparks said in Spawns and How You Use Them:
@Rook nah, I use Windows, Linux, and OSX interchangeably. I wrote Atlantis because I happened to be stuck on a Mac almost exclusively for a while when my PC was broken, and sorely missed SimpleMU. When I was unable to convince Kath to port it, I started writing my own.
SimpleMU was written in Delphi and relied on some external libs for which the source was not available. Reimplementing it from scratch really was the only option. Kudos for exceeding your design goals by such a wide margin

RE: MSB MU*?
I'd be afraid it would result in a drop in message traffic on the forum.

RE: Spawns and How You Use Them
I keep my ancient Macbook around specifically to run Atlantis. Truly, it's the best MU* client available today.

RE: Savior of the Universe: Flash AhhhhAAA!
@AlexRaymond Just a thought, free hosting is available, if you want to test the waters before spending any money on your project. Log on to the RhostMUSH-DEV site (erebor.localecho.net 4201) and talk to Jarin. It's completely free, very reliable, and Jarin/Jeff has been a pleasure to deal with.

RE: Date Thenomain
@HelloProject I've encountered this a few times over the years but none were as pronounced as the Wikipedia photo. Not a big deal, really.

RE: Date Thenomain
I'll throw my hat into the ring but he's definitely going to have to make some eye contact, and I'll be expecting more afterwards than a quick "Thanks, bro" as he rushes out the door.
Unfortunately I have no comics with which to sweeten the pot but I do have a bunch of old Apple computer products that might work?

RE: Date Thenomain
Wait, Thenomain is a he? All the years I've been reading these boards I could have sworn... well, nevermind what I thought. Let's just say that I expected to find Birkenstocks and lots of flannel in his closet.

RE: Where No One has Gone Before
@Bob IIRC It's been around since the mid to late 90's. It shut down at one point but reopened later (same owner, though). Unfortunately, it's pretty much your standard "report-filing simulation". It's set in an alternate timeline and bears only passing resemblance to anything you would probably recognize as canon Star Trek.
It's also a MOO, not MUSH, in case that matters to you.

RE: Most 'Plug & Play' Friendly Server?
I usually advise people to go with MUX if they're attempting to make a WoD game, and PennMUSH otherwise . Penn has much more third party code available than the others including hardcode addons such as space engines. It's also the easiest to get support for. Rhost would be an Ok choice if you're planning to do your own game completely from scratch and you are willing to put some effort into learning to do things 'the Rhost way'. TM3.x I would not consider at all. Just my $0.02, YMMV

RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@Pandora Personally, I'm grateful that it's hidden by default. Makes it much easier to ignore.

RE: RL Anger
Just do like I did once and cancel the card the gym membership payments are going on
-
RE: How do you make money?
I've had the same job in the adult entertainment industry for 14 years. Before that I did some menial stuff such as baker in a Mr Donut, Night Manager at a Roy Rogers, and delivery boy for a Chinese restaurant.

RE: RL Anger
IMO it was unaceptable for him to be in the home when the room mate herself was not there. Not when you are also living there. Neither of you know this person well enough yet to be trusting him with a key.
Yes, you definitely need to have a conversation with this woman.

RE: Mobile phone usage poll
I will occasionally log on from my phone, but only to chat or check mail. I'll save the coding and RP until I can get to a real computer.

RE: RL Anger
HomeEc was split into two classes in my school. For 2 semesters, you learned about nutrition and how to make Rice Crispies treats. For the second two semesters, you learned to sew. I sucked horribly at sewing and failed that class, but I got an E in the cooking class.
We learned about budgeting, mortgages, checking accounts, paying bills and similar things in Math class.
