Now, The two Haradrim groups were where the 'forgotten' Istari went to, but it's unclear whether those two Istari corrupted the Human groups or whether the Human groups corrupted the two Istari.
Do we know that the Istari were corrupted at all? I don't remember reading anything about them. You'd think that if they were corrupted or doing the corrupting, they would have fought in the War, but I don't remember them being there.
Tolkien made notes about them, Alatar & Pallando, but didn't publish any stories about them. They show up in timelines and in Notes of Middle Earth stuff.
What Tolkien did say about the Istari in his writings was that Gandalf/Olorin was the only uncorrupted Istari; Sauruman was corrupted by arrogance and ambition, while Radaghast was 'corrupted' by being too concerned with nature over the guiding actions of Men, which was the whole purpose of the Istari to begin with.

RE: Reign of X
@chibichibi X-Men Divergence already has that setting, just so you know.

Another observation in regards to Tolkien and Biological Determinism...
Sauron's human armies. The Near and Far Haradrim. Sub-Saharan African and 'Oriental' humans, respectively. Sure, you had instances of some individuals (Grima) and sub-cultures (Black Numenoreans/Corsairs) who turned to evil or were corrupted, but not entire ethnic groups painted as 'evil' in the same way. They weren't 'inherently' Evil in the way the Haradrim were.
Now, The two Haradrim groups were where the 'forgotten' Istari went to, but it's unclear whether those two Istari corrupted the Human groups or whether the Human groups corrupted the two Istari.

RE: Positivity Going Forward...
@ganymede Oh, I can guarantee that I think my opinion is worth less than what others might think. Introvert self-deprecation and all that...

RE: Wild Cards
@lotherio And there's nothing preventing players from creating characters inspired by the 'big name' FCs. There's a sense that creating such 'homage' characters means that they're lesser or inferior to the real thing. Which is sort of ridiculous, to me, since the Big Two crib off each other all the time.

RE: 7th Sea?
@greenflashlight Wasn't really putting it up for a vote. Just explaining my reasons why I'm not big on 2e. The only real discussion is to go with the Classic 1e setting & mechanics or try to convert the Sarmation Commonwealth, the summoning magic, and Hexenwassen magic/society into the Classic setting and 1e mechanics.

@zombiegenesis I'd be all over an Aberrant game, OC universe or standard setting.

New TTRPG setting: steampunk alt WW!
So, apparently West End Games has re-formed and is putting out a D6 game based on the Image Comic series 'Carbon Grey'.
Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magneticpressplay/carbon-grey-the-role-playing-game
Quckstart rules: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/367220/Carbon-Grey-RPG--Quickstart-Guide
Sort of feels like what Savage Skies is doing. But, Yay for the return of D6!

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
After the Starfield game trailer and entirely too much time playing Mass Effect LE, I've been thinking outside my usual superhero niche and been hankering for some 'classic' sci-fi.
So, perhaps a Traveller game set in the 'MegaTraveller' or 'New Era' settings? The fall of the Third Imperium or the post-fall struggle to rediscover and rebuild interstellar civilization? Allow for alien races and psionics. Should incorporate a wide enough variety of themes for players; combat, politics, L&L, exploration, building.

@zombiegenesis Its all your call, but new age of heroes would be good for OC, players can help define in their stories.
That's what I'm leaning towards. Something happens that sparks superhuman activity. I'm also exploring other potential systems such as Prowlers and Paragons.
Just my 2 cents, but I think P&P is too narratively focused of a system to be efficient. It works better in a normal TT group setting, where you can more easily manage the narrative advantages and disadvantages that the dice roll produce.

RE: Comic Games And Scope
@zombiegenesis said in Comic Games And Scope:
Ultimately I think my question boils down to this; Are there few games on a focused theme because of lack of player interest or because staff want to hedge their bets by allowing as many characters as possible? I don't think character balance factors in though I do think character unique-ness could.
And I'm also not saying there aren't any or have never been successful games with a focused theme. They are, however, vastly outnumbered by games that allow either everything from a given comic universe or anything from any comic universe. I'm just wondering why the scales are so unbalanced.
Like I said, there's a lot of factors. Even if you do a single-company focused game, you're going to get players that aren't going to want to join because 'It's a Marvel game' or 'it's a DC game'. Brand loyalty is very much a thing in comics fandom.
Like the old saying goes: you can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

7th Sea with Ares?
...opinion and coding support on a game idea.
Okay. One of the versatilities of Ares that I just realized is the ability to simulate large amounts of area away from a centralized 'hub'. As in, it facilitates a game where you can have groups separated on quests/adventures far away from each other and the central 'hub' area. You don't have to include rooms for every town, territory, island, or ocean location.
So, with this in mind...by brain is pitching the idea of using Ares for a 7th Sea game.
Ideally, the game would keep the newer 2nd Edition dice system, rather than the 1e Roll + Keep.
Eventually...
In addition to a core Admin Staff, there would be Storytellers to run events, and a Staffer for each Nation and Society to coordinate the Metaplot & Events involving each.
In addition to being solo, players would be free to create their own groups & crews, taking part in story arcs like the Castillian Reconquista, The Montagne Rebellion, and the Avalon/Sidhe split.
No need for a massive grid.
Want to hunt Montaigne shipping? Go for it.
Want to start up a Vendel trading company? Cool.
Want to do Syrenth dungeon delving all over Thea? Perfect.
Any interest or opinions?
