@Luna I heard a lot of that growing up from my own family. If I don't eat what was on my plate plus a second helping I got asked how come I don't like that food, etc.
Then people do it to each other in adulthood. Talk about pointless social programming.

@HelloRaptor It's interesting that you bring up suspension of disbelief. This touches on something I really think about a bit when it comes to stories, and it is that in my opinion anyway the suspension of disbelief is most easily done when the setting and characters are structured in a way so as to be plausible. Given that it is one of the storyteller's jobs to help the experiencer (a word I use just to cover movie-watchers, TV-watchers, book-readers, etc) suspend that disbelief, I think the more skillful a storyteller is at embracing the plausible the better.
Unless you're telling a story in the form of a fable, which might be something like Flatland or Jonathan Livingston Seagull, or similar. In which case go hog wild.
@Coin I always wondered how come DC didn't go in for the idea that humans were an offshoot of the Kryptonians and that explains not only why they look the same, but why Kryptonians might have some interesting reactions with an Earth environment and how Jor-El knew to send his son here.
Then again comic books. So much is justified away by simply saying comic books.

One comment on the article reads, however:

@Glitch I wonder if that would work if I flew out of Mexico, since I live much closer to that border than to the Canadian one.

Yes. And then habitually they fail to listen, and then they get voted out of office once they blow off enough of their constituents, and then the party opposite them crows about how CLEARLY the electorate must be coming around to their way of thinking, when really both major parties in the US are essentially the same people who have different masters, none of whose masters are the actual voters that put them in office.
It's why Congress went more Republican back in 2014. It doesn't mean that Americans were going "hey let's give the Republicans more of a shot". It's because they were going "my incumbent representative doesn't give a damn about me, so let's fire them".
It will be the same in 2016 and 2018, etc. A slough of Congressmen get fired every cycle not so much out of affirmative support for the party of the winner but out of spite for the incumbent.
For some reason I often have a dream where I am unavoidably looking down at the floor all the time. Like it's hard to look anybody in the eye or look up, and then I find out my neck is all twisted and weird and I wake up hurting.
And then I have this dream where I die but linger and everybody's like "Hey what's up. I thought you were dead." "Yeah me too. I dunno. Fuck it."
