RE: Social 'Combat': the hill I will die on (because I took 0 things for physical combat)
So, I didn't read any of this, but the first post. Super awesome, right? But, I just shared this with Ganymede and will share with you all. Here's my (and @Coin and @tragedyjones 's) Social Combat system for Chronicles of Darkness. It's meant for most in-scene situations, designed to reward players who comply while allowing players/characters to say "no".
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xy1B7lvz06UHKCcXKj0c1p-3kAUwUH_RqdKnKBDsGK0/edit?usp=sharing
If anyone feels compelled to use any of it, cheers to that! Just please try to find a way to reference where you found it. And, in my own due diligence, this was cooked up in the wake of playing Requiem for Kingsmouth's (imo) awesome social fu system.

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@Wolfs In your events, make sure you check the box marked "Continue". Basically, if unchecked, it processes that one event and stops. Ie, it gets to coloring your name, or the page itself, and stops. If you click continue, it will process that event then move on to the next one.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
@bored Can I ask who you play? Because I've seen some people who are nothing but concert-goers stepping up and doing big things. Likewise, I've seen some of the "important" types get to sit on their hands and do nothing at all. Conrad knowing what's going on doesn't REALLY give him more to do, when he's sat in the safe zone waiting to get word back.
But I definitely do understand your point. Stuck in a room where you can't do much is rarely a lot of fun, but I'd be happy to try to see what is possible for you (or the hypothetical you) to do.
I'm playing Addie aka The Adherent.
Also, you can switch to an open archetype between stories.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
@haven I've seen somewhat creepy and I've seen heavy choices. I've not seen anything that scared me, and there definitely is not any gore-soaked edgelord stuff, as @surreality says. The description of a flayed corpse is usually just that.

RE: Useful code on player bit
- A verbose +txt system,
- a poseorder that makes noise when it's your turn to pose
- +repose with line breaks in it and can be easily cleared
- a +watch system that not only notifies of log on/off, but also lists out things like idle times (and maybe the person's location),
- commands that allow
+
or not (ex, +txt or txt) (this makes stuff mobile-friendly)
I think that's all I got right now.

RE: Social Stats in the World of Darkness
@ganymede I have a system all written up nice and neat for "Social Fu". It's similar to what we used on RfK. The summary, though, is that you can use social stats on other PCs. If you do, they can comply or not. If they comply, they get XP (A beat, whatever). If they don't, they don't.
Voluntary, but incentivizes participation.

RE: Recc/Squee/Kudos Code?
@Arkandel I'm looking for code. Not a discussion of intended reasoning behind it, unless that reasoning is necessary to write the code.
Feel free to theory craft in another thread.

RE: How old are MU* players?
You gotta do another with "how long have you been playing"!
Also, we young folk got to overthrow the old folk. Growth, change, etc! Wave of the future!

RE: Coding Happy Birthday to Thenomain?
SELECT concat( IF( name <> 'Thenomain', 'HAPPY', 'IT IS YOUR'), ' ', 'BIRTHDAY,', ' ', name, '!' ) FROM users WHERE users.birthdate = curdate();
There. Now it's a code post. I think.

@skew and I are now combining our cafe ideas like VOLTRON
I'm the heart, right? Art is the heart?
The new, tentative plan, will be my character (Green) renting half of @Roz 's shop. It'll be made into an art co-op, where local artists (and the like) basically rent some small space to sell their work. So, come for coffee, go shop. Leave all your money in Grand Lake.
Concept still in development, but we'll get it worked out! And, yes, anyone who wants to be an artist can find an anchor here

+repose command for TinyMux
Hi all. I've just finished up my latest project.
The +repose command will pull the last 30 minutes worth of poses that have happened in a room. This is useful for when you spam your screen (+sheet, mail, jobs, etc) and don't want to scroll back up, or if you get disconnected and lose your buffer, or if you join a scene late and miss the scene set/introduction.
It allows for you to exclude rooms, turn it off in rooms you own, or temporarily turn it off anywhere. You can also clear the repose log.
Using the command looks a little like this:
<----------------<< Recent poses as of 16:25, server time. >>----------------> Pikachu posed at 16:24: Pikachu says "Hello there my name is Pikachu! What's your name?" skew posed at 16:24: skew glowers. "Don't talk to me, electric rat." <---------------------------------------------------------------<< +repose >>>
If anyone's interested, it's here: https://github.com/skewskewskew/MUSHCode/blob/master/Repose Reposer <rr>
As ever, I'll help install and the like, if you want it on your game.
Known issue: The code uses secure(), which strips your pose of commas and parentheses. This is likely something I could get around, but a combination of limited coding knowledge and already having coded it all before I noticed an issue means this was the best solution. Plus, if someone just needs a reminder of what they missed, it's not a big deal.

RE: Spirit Lake - Discussion
@Sab @saturna I do want to point out that art communities are popular in this part of the world. As the site points out, millions roll through this town come very summer, and they all want some souvenir from a local artist. The craving for high-quality mountain chintz is insatiable.
So, if anyone wants to keep things "realistic", just make sure your art could be sold in some way and I think it'll be a great concept!

RE: skew's Playlist
@faceless Yeah ok that one is probably more realistic and I do believe I shall steal it.

RE: Echoes in the Mists - Discussion
Not trying to be mean here... but wikis are an integral part of the MU, especially a MU using the soft code base that you're using. Why open up the game itself when there's no means to access the information necessary to, say, make a character and play the game?

@Kay said in Changeling: The Lost Update [CofD]:
@skew ... What did poor Theno do that you want to put that on him?
Gather round, let us tell the story of @Thenomain the wise!
Back in the Golden Days of The Reach... No, not the actual ones. The ones that came after the actual ones. Thenomain was on Head Staff, and many a player went to him for arbitration. On account of his inability to remember names or past experiences, he was always neutral. His pedantry ensured the conversations were detail orientated. Players felt they could simply present an issue and not have emotions and the like weighed into it. Thing happened, thing was bad, yes or no, let Thenomain decide!
Which is my snarky ass way of saying Thenomain is a good listener and is highly capable of sorting out other people's choices and problems.

RE: skew's Playlist
I don't want to miss out on the wave of updates!
I dropped Amanda on Arx, she might come back. Still playing Mae, trying to keep my head above water there. Even with no responsibilities it's hard to keep up.
I finished Prosperity's Price on HorrorMu and decided it was time to retire Addie. Thanks everyone for the good time!
I opened Chontio, and am running that with @farfalla's help (<3 <3).
I am on Spirit Lake as Green, an alternate version of my much beloved posh Brit.

Damion, Daimon, Damien, and all other spellings.
Dante or some spin off Dante.
And you gotta have a name with a Z in it.
