Bring it mother fucker, you'll miss me so damn much you'll be risking castration just climbing over the top of the barbed wire.

    • RE: Coming in 2016 - Bump in the Night

Were we to run with this idea (taking someone's old, retired, etc PC and integrating them into the world as an NPC) it would be done on the stipulation that you're creating an NPC. If you're offering it up for staff to play, you're releasing that concept to staff. If you're running it yourself, you'd be doing so with some kind of plan that you created with staff.

Of course, none of what I just wrote is different than anything else. NPCs are NPCs. They are meant to play roles, and in a game based around hunting monsters, that role will often be getting killed. Anyone who writes up a monster for this game should expect the story they are writing to come to some sort of an end.

Likewise, any player that is creating powerful NPCs to use in their story will be working with staff anyways.

In conclusion, NPC antagonists will be NPC antagonists, and anyone that wants to play an NPC antagonist as their PC, they are silly.

I am happy to say that the grid desc has been all but finished! We have just a few rooms that do not have a desc, and those are mostly buildings tied to the various factions and other plot elements. I want to give a big thanks to everyone who helped me with this!

Next step: Digging a grid. O god.

@Ataru said in I will design you a MUX:

I think @Thenomain is right though. Either you throw a veneer over it, but otherwise accept that its going to be a City by Night type game or you apply some kind of fantasy or alt-history twist to it to make the setting actually work. I'd prefer the latter.

I think having some kind of source material helps with the fantasy world. To that end, Kushiel's Debut has done pretty well, using WoD as the rule set and a series of books for source material. It cuts down on the need to research and carefully set up a world, because an author has already done that for you, even if you're not trying to stick close to the source, it helps. I think you could get a similar result drawing from a popular film and/or video game.

So. CofD rules for Fallout-world MU? You ready to help @tragedyjones?

    • DigitalOcean and Domains.Google

I've had a DigitalOcean droplet (running Mediawiki) set up for a while now. I finally got around to getting my domain. It was hours of me floundering around before I realized what all I was missing. Some searches has also suggested that, for some reason, Google's name service doesn't play nice with DigitalOcean? So, I wanted to record my suffering so as someone else here might avoid it.

First, Google will ask if you want to create a site or forward the address. You want neither. You need to go to "Configure DNS". You then go to the very bottom, under Custom resource records. Set the following:

      • @ A 1h Your.Droplet.IP.Address
      • www CNAME 1h domain.com

Next, make sure you go back onto your server, and updated LocalSettings.php. You want to set $wgServer to the address (with no slash on the end). Ex: www.example.com

When I first did this, I tried to set up forwarding. That's not the same thing. Then I set up Google to point at DigitalOcean's DNS host. That didn't work. Playing with DNS settings can be very frustrating as they can take "a while" to update. So... hopefully this saves someone a lil grief!

    • RE: (Online RP) Dark Age: Redemption, an Ultima Online Shard

@deadculture There's no Vice Dungeons. There's likewise a totally different combat system, based on a level system (not individual skill gain). That said, there is a rather fun alchemy system wherein you make your own recipes/potions based on things you collect in the wild, collect off monsters, etc.

    • Fate's Harvest

      FATE'S HARVEST
      fatesharvest.com : 6464

We are a nWoD/CofD Changeling/Mortal+/Mortal game using 'Changeling: the Lost' v1.0 (okay, more like 1.5) and modified GMC rules. Set in Vermont, most non-Hedge play will take place in the imaginary city of Fort Brunsett and, atop the nearby cliffs, the small and far too knowledgeable mountain town of Tamarack Falls. Also imaginary.

The Freehold of Fate's Harvest is about to reach its second birthday. It is also about to learn just why the valley of Tamarack Falls was ripe for the picking...

The MUX is designed to be a place where players can explore the themes and struggles of Changelings reaching the ends of their journeys, be they those who chase their dreams back to Arcadian arms or those they leave behind. High Wyrd is as common as low, as are the dangers it invites. Either road has consequences. Are they worth the price?

      Accepted Templates Include:
Changeling, Fetch, Fae-touched, Enchanted, Psychic, Thaumaturge, and plain ol' human.

      Some fun tidbits:

      • Seasonal, solar, and transitional courts are all permitted.
      • High XP characters are allowed at start.
      • All Kiths have been balanced.
      • The chargen is really nice and easy!
      • Coded hedgefruit gardens

The game is active, and we have a strong US-daytime/European player base. Please come check us out!

(Note: Reposting this as the previous post still said Beta! If I've missed any COOL DETAILS let me know!)

    • RE: How to use Potato MU Client

My dear (not actually a) stalker asked how to highlight names without highlighting words that contain that name. Ie, Mae but not Maelstrom.

      Create a new event:

      • Event Name: Name Highlight
      • Pattern: \m(Name|Nickname|Othername)\M
** Put your name there instead of 'name'
      • Type: regexp
      • Case: Checked
      • Enabled?: Checked
      • Continue?: Checked
      • Match All?: Checked
      • Run When: Always
      • Change FG: Color of your choice

NOTE: Above, where it says \m(Name|Nickname|Othername)\M, all the different things are different possible highlights. If you have no nicknames, you would simply do \m(Name)\M. Example, if your character is Captain Jack Sparrow, you might want to highlight "Jack" and "Captain Sparrow" so you'd do \m(Jack|Captain Sparrow)\M. Got it? Thanks to @ixokai for this.

That should do it... Please note, like every time anyone ever uses of regexp I have no idea what I'm doing and just copied and pasted some code until I found the stuff that worked. So let me know if it's not working for you?

    • RE: Cheap or Free Games!

I'm playing Path of Exile. It's free (with in game purchases that you thoroughly DO NOT need). It's mindless. It's fun.

The game plays a little like Diablo 2 or something of that nature, with a birds eye view, with you running around and clicking things. You level up, you get items, you get gems that give you powers, you have a "passive skill tree" that is friggin' 'uge and allows you to customize out your character. I'm playing in the "Talisman" league, which is actually a sort-of beta for new stuff they're testing. I've found (in this world, at least) that they've made a LOT of things easier, by defaulting certain useful features to ON (instead of having to figure out how to turn them on) as well as making certain items easily findable in game, so you're not stuck looking for that one gem you missed.

The story is pretty convoluted and hard to follow, so don't play it for the story, but instead for the colorful colors.

    • RE: What are you listening to?!

I've been told I might be one of five people that likes Kid Cudi's new album, Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven.

To quote an article: "It’s not that’s it’s just terrible. It’s that it’s so mind-bogglingly atrocious, so far removed from any modern conceptions of taste, that it grows into this fascinating and hilarious slog where each new half-baked idea, offensive cliché, and ill-advised Beavis and Butthead skit brings it to deeper and deeper lows, such that by the end, you could make a convincing argument that it’s the worst album of all time. Somehow this doesn’t get people excited."

And from the same article: "Perhaps he thought he was making his In Utero, and in many ways he did, but whereas Kurt Cobain wrung pathos out of apathy, experimental songs, and disgusting riffs, Cudi fails at wringing any emotion at all."

Which of course leads us to: "I really hope Kid Cudi finds some help, but as for his record, I’ve listened to Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven more than I have half of my favorite records of 2015, and can safely say that it has been one of my sincerest joys this season."

Of course, the reason I'm taking the time to share this with you all is because I abso-fucking-lutely love this album, and want to see if I really am 1 of 5. Oh, and it's grunge. Not rap, pop, hip hop, etc.
