    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

So, I like getting things done as soon as they fall onto my plate, or I tend to lose track of them.

What this meant in practical terms is that as soon as I got the address to my new place about 2 months ago, I did all the chores immediately. Set up all of the service transfers, all of the renter's insurance, signed the lease, all that jazz. Turned it all over to the leasing center in a nice little packet.

The leasing center lost all of that information.

So yesterday, less than 24 hours before I'm supposed to get my keys, they say, "Hey, we don't have anything on file for you other than the transfer fee being paid." So I need to run around like a headless chicken flailing and trying to get things back in order, obtain pieces of information I've since filed away as 'checked off my list', and re-signing my lease, and oh by the way, we can't get you your keys until 4PM, despite the fact that they said 9AM before I scheduled the dudes to come out and install internet.

So I have an appointment for them to install internet in an apartment I have no key to.

      Fucking. Hell.

I, too, am riding the meme currency train. I treated it not as an investment, but more like gambling. I am in it with the mentality that I expect to lose the entire initial buy, but it's fun to dream.

I'm moving in less than a week - while I can't move in to a house this year like I'd hoped because of the aforementioned absurdity bubble that's even more absurd in my neck of the woods, I was able to land a decently sized upgrade to the current apartment.

I cannot overstate how excited I am to be moving from a 1B/1BR to a 2B/2BR plus a loft. This means I no longer have to have my setup in a literal laundry room. Not sure if I'm going to post up in the loft or the second bedroom for my office, but either way, it is decidedly not the fucking laundry room.

      And I'm thrilled with that.

I don't have Disney+, but I'm very curious to see how people are finding Star Wars: Visions! Anyone care to weigh in?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think that based on the trailer, I wouldn't have touched it. From a distance it reads as Steven Universe / Adventure Time (and there are certainly comparisons that can be made), but the older cast and millennial/Gen-Z-relevant angst actually resonated with me, and the emotional core is surprisingly pleasant.

Also, it's fucking delightful and has some clear Ghibli inspirations.

But I'm all about that slow descent into the dark and twisty parts as layer upon layer of horror comes to light as you, the player, just tag along for the ride.

And that's a totally valid take! I just couldn't vibe on it the same way I did the first game.

I have such high hopes! The casting seems great. I honestly just hope they stick to the first game and then peace out, as that's where the storytelling was strongest.

(No, I'm not one of those Last of Us 2 detractors (Big Yikes, No Thanks), I just found I preferred the conflict and ambiguity offered by the first game's narrative.)

People keep testing positive for Covid at my place of work. C-level is framing this as a great thing, because it's showing that their testing mandate is working, and we're removing people who are positive from the workplace.

While also refusing to slow the return to work measures, and refusing to increase work-from-home hours because 'we're safer than ever'.

Naturally, this is more positive Covid cases in the last month than we had all of last year.

      Fucking exhausting.

I am very fine with that, too. Especially if it has a fully fleshed out Disc 2 with 100% fewer chairs.

      Well, yeah.

I'm not sure I would trust any remake of Trigger at this point. Difficult to improve upon it. Cross, as an early 3D game, has plenty of edges that could be smoothed.

If that's a thing, I really hope they give it a full treatment. The translation work was pretty dodgy, and I'd like to see them give it a second pass of polish.

      That and Suikoden II's translation.

      suikoden 2

I would die a happy Solstice if they retranslated and re-released that. But knowing Konami, they shall just make a pachinko machine instead.

    • RE: Online friends

There are friends I have in real life that know only a fraction of who I am as a person, and there are people online who have reached the entire iceberg. It varies, obviously, but I have online friends who have actively checked on me and cared about me more than friends I've had for my entire life. Friends who have endured my whining and anxieties, and questionable elitist takes on anime, yet still want to actually speak to me. Why these people exist is a mystery to me, but I am quite pleased for it all the same.

So, yeah. I'm firmly in the 'They are real' camp.

The most terrifying thing in the world with online friends is when they stop connecting, and you don't know why.

...and then they reconnect like a week later having just loved their vacation, and you feel like a dip for worrying but it was just really out of character for them to not log on at all like that okay.

I didn't want my Game of Thrones MUSH to be all sword-swinging women.

      but that's my fetish

@il-volpe said in Antagonistic PCs - how to handle them:

Especially when you get on great with the dwarves who are on around when you are and there would be no problem if people would stop bitching about how corny and wrong elf and dwarf players are if they RP not hating one another too much to interact.

What? That's stupid. Even in games where there's supposed to be a history of distrust between species, those are the NPC rules. It's just the theme - which as a PC, you then choose to make efforts to gird up or tear down based on the actions of the PCs. Do people not understand this? Is this something that's not understood?

    • RE: RL Sads

Received a diagnosis of PTSD today, and I have mixed feelings. Embarrassment, because I feel like my trauma isn't as bad as other peoples' trauma to fall into this category, grudging relief that when talking about my trauma, my psychiatrist seemed to take my problems seriously for the first time ever, and... honestly, just emotionally through the ringer for having to dredge up some decades-old wounds I haven't had to touch in years.

I know it's not the trauma olympics, and this might lead to better evaluation and care, but part of me feels reduced to that trauma by this diagnosis. Just a weird, shitty feeling.
