@Rook The big problem with the type you're describing -- people basically just trying to rile others in ways they know they'll rile them regardless of whether they actually believe other races/sexes/etc. are inferior -- is that their vocal behavior gives tacit support to the people who have quietly believed those things, but recognize that society generally does not agree with their view or find it the ideal to embrace.

It's basically cheerleading and empowerment for the actual hatemongering shitheads, and that it's hollow trolling doesn't really matter to the actual hatemongering shitheads.

@Ganymede Welp. That covers the rest of the class, pretty sure, somewhere or other in there.

@Ganymede Shit like this keeps up, they'll just decide none of us qualify for coverage, after what this will do to our livers.

      @Ganymede Bonus horror to consider:

      • Any condition you don't report can potentially screw you over with insurance companies, or that was the old standard -- even ones you don't know you have or don't know are relevant somehow, just in case there's some tangential link you may be wholly unaware of. (Edit: As in, you'd need to disclose this to EVERY medical professional you deal with. Podiatrist, dentist... )

      • Is this only for sexual assaults reported to the police? (Think of the percentages... )

      • Would not reporting sexual assault to the police then constitute an attempt to defraud the insurance company?

Go on. Try an' keep that beer down, I got the bucket handy. πŸ˜•

Addendum: Conditions can come from combat/etc., too, in addition to tilts. And some of the tilts are whoa.

@Ganymede PT was kickass for entertainers and artist types. Seriously. It did a fair job of giving them a bit of a leg up -- and it was pretty much the only way mortals were getting any kind of bonus for stuff like that, re: 9-again/etc.

People get caught up in the combat aspects, and understandably so, but really... the combat stats tend to have equipment (as mentioned) that isn't terribly fancy-pants that gives the same bonuses and whatnot and are available to everyone.

Anything but combat, and you're kinda fucked, which reinforces some of the very problems we're always bitching about. Combat has solutions. Anything else? Not so much. πŸ˜•

@Derp said in CofD and Professional Training:

As for 'there are not a lot of things that grant mortals 9/8-again', bullshit. Sorry, but it is. Many firearms have these qualities, for instance, as well as do some less-gun-type weapons. There are merits that can give you 9-again on a range of things. The options are out there. They just tend to have a particular focus, and aren't quite as broad as some supernatural powers.

      For combat builds, sure.

For social characters or crafters? Pretty much screwed. I played a lot of artists and performers.

A 9-again gun is not going to help me any (more than any other character on the grid who has one) or represent anything unique about my character at all.

Biological reactions don't bug me, same as a double-take. The boobs are themselves the result of such, after all.

It's the people who have made comments, grabbed, groped, etc. that are all acting consciously and deliberately in a totally not-ok fashion that get the tongue-lashing to end all.

@kitteh Oh, mine's a crazy over the top Catholic zealot. The idea that boys might look at her daughter as something other than marriage-bait was such a terror to her that...

...ok. The sex talk I got? Was being handed a pamphlet from the 1960s on menstruation when I was 12, after school had covered this. The next installment was, and I quote it in its entirety and verbatim, not until I was 19, and for some reason occurred in a specific Red Lobster in which apparently every awkward conversation between us has ever happened: "Make sure little willy always wears his raincoat."

...she did not know I was dating a William at the time. I do not think the lady who ended up with a spit-take's worth of snow crab legs in her hair after that one appreciated Mom's timing much.

@kitteh I have a weird scale on this one, too, relatively speaking. My mother is super repressed. She hated that her child got that kind of attention. I am very fortunate that she didn't take me to see a doc about a reduction until after I was 18 so I could legally refuse. She was intending to force the matter, and they told her that legally, she no longer could do so. (I didn't want one; I do not consider this 'there is something wrong with me', though I understand why some other folks might in their own cases; if people can't deal with me how I was made, fuck 'em.)

Compared to that? Double-take dude is zero stress.

@kitteh Yeahhhhh. Since I grew up with it, the general gawking thing didn't bother me because also, I'm like... 5ft tallβ€’. My chest measurement and my height are currently, roughly, the same. I mean jeebus, that's just some silly shit right there and I would like to have a word with whoever thought this was a great design combo (outside of kinky fiction). πŸ˜•

Gawking... I got used to it. And plenty of people couldn't help it and would feel bad. I crack jokes about it (politely and nothing super crude) sometimes to help people feel less self-conscious about that. Not if they're being a creeper, obviously, but if some poor soul just catches themselves staring in befuddlement and suddenly turns beet red, well, that's not exactly fun for them and they're not trying to be disrespectful or horrid, so putting people at ease is a thing.

People being jerks? Zero fucking tolerance. The difference tends to be super obvious.

β€’Β OK FINE, RIGHT NOW I'M A FRACTION OF AN INCH UNDER 5FT TALL, BOO.

@Admiral In fairness, the instance I'm bitching about, someone was equating being asked if they wanted to do something to rape.

I can see the parallel in your case as it, well, involves force (implied or otherwise) and they're not asking; consent is irrelevant.

That's where/how I found the thing I was dealing with so dramatically fucked up and inappropriate. It wasn't just a matter of scale, it's a matter of... wow, yeah, that's just not the same thing. It's another uncomfortable thing apparently (and unexpectedly), sure, no arguments there! ...but it is not the same thing as rendering someone's consent irrelevant by use of some kind of force (edit: and there are precisely ZERO consequences for saying 'nah'.). πŸ˜•

@Ganymede Like I said.. this stuff is more or less the reason I just went 'fuck it' and am doing something NotWoD/NotCoD. It's a basic logical framework that people could set up in a (mostly) balanced way, or a hopelessly unbalanced way, depending on what they choose to build with it. My thing was just one example of how it could be set up. (At the moment, project plans are more to just write up the system because my fatalism is at a higher than average point, which means technical crap is a better option than creative thinking.)
