This came up because I was called a cunt, and I don't personally care. The person who called me that isn't screeching, either, nor do either of us bear each other any ill will. I made a joke about it because other people have made a federal case about it. Another person politely asked that no one use the term. Another pair of people entirely lolwhut'd it, at which point those of us who have seen this song and dance performed a dozen times sighed, shook our heads, and tried to warn people not to go there lest there be pointless, stupid drama.
And here we are, engaged in pointless, stupid drama. Like I said: high school.
Please keep up with what's actually happening? If you're going to engage in a discussion about facts, actually discuss the facts. Your recounting of events bears no resemblance to them whatsoever.

@faraday That's just it -- I'm not even referring to social services. Yet, somehow, no one bothers to find that out, even though it's very easy to infer from the post (unless I'm some idiot with a tactical panties concession stand; I'm not).
My objections are to wasteful spending on... well, just watch the news. (No, we don't need tens of thousands of dollars for a phone booth, or tactical panties for sprawling security details etc.)
@faraday It doesn't even have to be a hot button issue. Heck, I got insulted in this thread (which is supposedly inappropriate) in a completely baseless fashion because I'm 'not pure enough' an idealogue for someone's liking, and they decided it meant something patently absurd and disgusting.
And they got cheered on for doing it. So... yep. Pretty much that. This actually is a problem. Saying "that person is ignorant" only gets us so far collectively when that ignorance is bolstered and encouraged at the expense of truth and sense.
It does show evidence of the issue Templari was talking about, admittedly. Not the thread for it, though.
I stay out of the political forum specifically because of ignorant comments like mood's.

But yeah, the people who make less than poverty line wages, don't get or take any gov't assistance even though they qualify for all manner of stuff, and let people live in their house free of charge when in times of need are so totes all about 'getting theirs'. @packrat FWIW, I'm a US registered Independent, socially liberal, fiscally leaning conservative. Which essentially means: 'filthy heathen hippie who thinks we should pay our bills and not blow endless tax dollars on absurd and needless shit'.
To understand politics in the US, you essentially have to understand that at this point, 'absurd shit' can be defined as 'health care for children of low income families' or 'tactical underpants', depending on who you're talking to.
...it doesn't make any more sense if you live here, soaking in it, either. It really doesn't.

People screaming it in my face RL? Less bouncy. But that's more 'wtf, there is a total stranger screaming hostilities in my face, what the hell is happening here' than the language they're using.
...I did kinda have to chuckle a little at this tiny frail wee little old lady who hurled it and a shedload of other nastiness at me for sitting on the smoking bench in my mother-in-law's condo complex for having green hair, though. She went off. Baffling as hell and just... so much... whut? Like, it's the smoking bench, but I still expect people to snark or side-eye me for smoking regardless because that's how people do, but it being about the hair just blew my dang mind, for real. She was carrying little sunshine yellow crochet baby shoes she was working on while she yelled, y'all, it was trippy.

Yes, there's a power discrepancy difference between male and female terms, and that's relevant, but I think gendered derogatory language is just better avoided regardless on the whole if we're going there at all, even if it's not necessarily equivalent due to said power discrepancy.
After that verbal fist fight discussion, I decided that whenever I rework those files, that language is going to change to gender neutral terminology, full stop. (I'm thinkin' "asshole", 'cause everybody's got one, and "don't be an asshole" is plenty clear. <shrugs>)
That may sound like a small thing, but it isn't.

@roz I agree on the recent thing. Problem is, the previous explosion is still something that happened. Everyone was acting like an asshole in that conversation and I include myself.
It, unfortunately, does cause real concern re: 'the people with the big crowd behind them will scream at everyone when some perceived wrong is done to them, but there's silence when it's aimed at someone else'. It makes it appear that it's less about the issue, and more about the target, particularly when the same group of targets spawns sprawling pages of outrage over offenses done to them that are simultaneously being done to others that are met with silence (or sometimes worse).
In all seriousness? There are very few people on this forum -- whether I get along with them or not -- that I genuinely think poorly of. There are a lot of people, and this absolutely includes people I consider very good friends, who make me want to roll my eyes right out of my skull on a regular basis for some reason or another.
