I played Fallout 4 expecting a Fallout game. My expectation was they called it Fallout, but it ended up being a very different experience to the previous offerings and I felt kind of lied to.

You’re entitled to feel however you feel, obviously. But hypothetically if you were to go off on a cruel rant to the devs about how the game didn’t meet your expectations, I would say you were wrong.

O...Kay? That kind of goes against my point, but sure, because my point was that some complaints about expectation are reasonable.

So yes, I suppose if I were unreasonable, you could call me unreasonable.

      ...good?

I played Fallout 4 expecting a Fallout game. My expectation was they called it Fallout, but it ended up being a very different experience to the previous offerings and I felt kind of lied to. I agree that people complain too much, but I try to see if their criticism has merit, too. That’s just how I’m wired.

This segues into what @Arkandel was asking: Why play a game that isn’t quite what you’re looking for? Because it’s close. Friends and popularity too, yes, but choices aren’t so flush that someone can find precisely what they’re looking for.

So it’s a mix of a lot of things. I think players should play the game that was created, but as a lot of players are asked, and sometimes demanded to create on the fly, the need for give and take is critical.

@thenomain The stock market is not hard to game-ify. Many board games have done it. It's just a really big auction house. People are selling X at Y price and other people are buying A at B price. Once these people meet and agree to Z price, that sets the new value of the stock. That is a very simplified version, but a MU* only needs a simplified version.

And for all that's holy, try to code it so that a group of people can't nerf the system by cornering the market in attempts to sell 'a common rock' for like 10k a pop?

Are you telling me what Enron did was wrong? Because it was legal, and that’s all that was important.

Yeah, I can’t keep track of everyone’s personal definitions of specific phrases either. God knows I’ve clarified myself and had people not pick up on that.

I really fail to see how simply bribing people into doing more social RP makes the social RP any more interesting.

Social? I can't keep track of how many non-social scenes I've been in that were not the least bit interesting.

While I wold be happy if HBS made Shadowrun games through the end of time, I’m very happy for them for this development. I hope that Paradox is the kind of company to give it’s developers some autonomy and not be, e.g., like EA which kills franchises for their life energy so that they can shamble around making a few touch ups on their yearly Madden.

I would take the “think of the children” comment much better if the NRA hasn’t used it excessively itself.

I think we need a ban on that statement. I mean shit, look at the children all marching for a safer world and all, “think about the children.” And Millenials, all complaining that they can’t afford things in the current economy, wanting an education, wanting us to think about them, like they’re the future or some shit.

They’re all, “we want clean air for the children” and “we want a stable climate for the children.” They can pay for it if they’re so keen; I’ll be dead by then so stop whining and trying to make me care.

No, I’m not falling for it, you spoiled brats.

I think we need to do a better job of finding ways to make random/social RP focused and meaningful from the outset.

It would be great to find a solution that could reward random/social without unbalancing scales; without becoming code heavy/staff reliant.

Maybe some light code system that gives characters a reason to interact. Ooh! How about a game system where there are unknowns and the characters get together sometimes to pass along...lets call it lore. Oh! Better! Clues.

All praise and joking aside, even a system like this is very game dependent. Another system I’ve seen is one that rewards people for playing together, but I’ve seen it work (Arx) and not work (The Reach). It doesn’t matter what system you design if the players don’t engage with it.

Mind you, "Country Roads" is from 1971, and the Fallout extended timeline makes no bloody sense anyhow, but matching songs is not my forte. It's not even my thirty!

RL Anger: Be more political; stop making courts decide your shit for you, people.

We don't want to decide anything for ourselves, that's why we have (pick one depending on age):

      • Broadcast TV
      • Cable TV
      • Schools
      • The Internet
      • The Courts
      • The Government

... to do it for us!

But we better not have (repeat choice above) disagree with me, because that's wrong, and I will use the court system to make them think like me.
