    • RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?

@Derp I was at no point making a demand. I said I don't appreciate when people multiscene. There's a very big difference between saying "I don't like a thing" and "nobody should ever do that thing."

99.9999% of people can't multi-scene. Their RP lags, or is shit, or whatever. So I have a blanket preference that people don't do it. If I can't tell, I don't care.

Anyone that holds shit said here (that isn't particularly heinous) against people out in the wild is in for a world of surprise. We all disagree, sometimes loudly, about all kinds of things. Doesn't mean we hate each other.

You're really late to the party, @Ghost.

But I don't sense a whole lot of love, either.

Because we're here for the conversations, not simply the people with whom we are having the conversations. The handful of people that I talk to from this place, simply due to us having things in common, I give the love elsewhere.

The idea of this place is to talk about problems, and solve problems, and bring issues to light. Not to talk about the people talking about things.

Let it be said that if you're going to take a stance as gatekeeper or arbiter of people's behavior that you make sure that you're not a perpetrator of similar behaviors.

While I agree with this... in theory, it's not very practical. Similar to the 'let he who is without sin throw the first stone.' If we didn't "take a stance" as it were against behaviours we were also occasionally guilty of, then we'd never get anywhere.

    • RE: Our Tendency Towards Absolutes

@Ghost Oh the absolutism thing is easy. People seek patterns, even when none exist, and attribute bad things from one member of a 'class' - in this case, staff - to all, or at least the potential for such bad things. This is an important trait, as it's better to be convinced there's a tiger in the grass when there isn't rather than the other way about.

Honestly, you're not going to convince many people that there isn't a tiger in the grass if they've had experiences with tigers in the past. Staff are going to be held to a standard, regardless as to any 'rules', and that's just something you've got to deal with. Same with any relationship, if you've had several shitty boyfriends you're going to assume that the next guy is just as shitty until proven otherwise.

Conversely to the "everyone is always attacking everyone" argument, there's the rather obvious "everyone takes everything said personally" problem.

@juke Yeah, none of @faraday's examples really seem... bad to me. Except the OOC angst at IC things, that annoys me. But if someone annoys me, or I don't like their posing style, or I just don't like them... I'm not going to RP with them. And that is not a problem, that is a solution to the problem.

I feel this is a group problem that needs a group solution.

You're seeing a problem where it doesn't exist. This forum was inspired by others that were all about the bitching. That was its original point. So it's only natural that people would use it for that primarily. I don't believe that most people here are as hostile or aggressive elsewhere.

If you use jargon or abbreviations, and you simply assume everyone knows what you're talking about, you don't get to act like a twat when people ask you what the fuck you're talking about.

I think more people know about @Auspice having a sex life from her bitching about someone talking about it than people actually talking about it

... damn, dude. Tape a filter over your mouth, maybe that'll help.

Magee couldn't find their mouth with two hands, a mirror, and clearly written instructions.

Maybe if someone TSed him about it enough.

I'll just FTB, since that concept is utterly baffling.

      what the TS-stalkers go for.

Often, aye. They want the "experience" of banging the PB rather than the character. Which is weird, but whatever.
The only time I've really, really seen pushback against characters that are LGBT+ is when those characters are tropes, as @Derp mentioned. It's easy to assume, from the peanut gallery, that this pushback is because they're not het-cis, but it's usually that they're hilariously stupid concepts - the lesbian Asian teenager 'archetype' exists for a reason.

Of course, some people are going to hate anything different, sexism and racism are still a thing as well as various types of queer-phobia disguised as seeking realism, or other such things. It's going to be something you run into if you hang around any hobby long enough. Ours makes it feel more... personal, I suppose, because identity is such a key part of our experience as RPers versus model train collecting, for instance.
