    • RE: How do you like things GMed?

      I will also say, as a double-post, I am far more campaign-oriented than scene-oriented as far as my GM-ing rules go. Scenes don't really need rules. Take an idea, run it. People will like it, it'll be resolved, or they won't and it won't.

      Ultimate rule: Learn by doing. If you want to run a thing, run it. It might not be your magnum opus, but every attempt is one more step to mastery.

      @Cobaltasaurus The same goes for anyone that acts incredulous when I tell them I've no intention of seeing the film. Why is it so hard to imagine someone that doesn't give a shit about the thing you like?

      So, Tempest & co., bring on the mockery that surr's whining again, I guess. I expect nothing else from you; it doesn't even bother me any more.

      If there's one bit of advice I can offer it's this: Stop doing that. You can't face problems if all you see in front of you are people mocking you for trying. Deal with the issue(s), not the people.

      Anyway in Ohio, the Cleveland Clinic system and University Hospital systems both claimed that they do indeed lose money on medicare/medicaid. However when the ACA passed both of them lobbied the governor to expand both under the ACA rules. Does that make any sense?

      It does if one assumes the point of a hospital or a clinic is to treat the ill and tend the injured, and not to make money.

      @Aria I'm watching World War II week-by-week. I don't want any spoilers.

      @Kodiak Normally I'm pretty passive/apathetic when it comes to things people post on here. But damn if that didn't make my heart ache and yearn for a DnD campaign, and associated bonds, of my very own.

      Sure, there are people who grit their teeth at the historical inaccuracies

      Most of us folks that have more than a passing interest in history mostly grit our teeth when people insist on being "historically accurate" but aren't. Fictional takes on history are fine and are done often enough. We just get people trying time and again to be "historically accurate" rather than just using history as a story tool.

      The problem with that is that "Historically Accurate" is a scale, not a yes/no checkbox.

      Well, one can have various levels of accuracy but if it's not accurate it's not accurate. So saying that something is "historically accurate" is the wrong term to use. "Inspired by a historical setting" or "set in the backdrop of the XYZ," would be better. Nobody gets to be the historical pendant, then.

      I find it far more common that people want to be offended, usually on behalf of others, to show that they're "not like that." Even in instances where the racism doesn't come from any RL prejudice.

      I was on a D&D-inspired game a long time ago. Thematically, the denizens of whatever city we were in treated goblins poorly. Goblin walks into bar, my PC reacts poorly. Then all the other players start race-splaining to me. Goblin player was cool with it.

      Is it just me or are 'curry hot' and 'chilli hot' different sensations?

      One of the major, major problems with Serenity was that it was so very... fragmented. There was no guiding story, no major 'situations' that could organically arise, because everyone was flying about with a handful of other people.

      @Macha Keep in mind that these drugs take some time to take affect and are messing with your brain chemistry. Might be rougher before easing up.

      And the dose might need tweaking before it works as close to perfectly as it can.
