I finally bought new filing cabinets, so I can keep my work files and my family files in separate cabinets! This is the best day ever.

RE: Consent in Gaming
@Ghost This is sort of why I roll my eyes when people describe MUing as "cooperative storytelling." It's true to a point, in that all of us are cooperating most of the time in telling stories. We just don't always want to tell the same stories. What I might find endlessly fascinating (like where the heck did all this tin come from for the bronze age?! [probably Cornwall]) and a source of inspiration and direction is something you'd possibly find dull as hell to have to sit through.
So yes, we are all in this together and we should do our best to ensure a good time is had by all, but punishing people for not wanting to play out the boring, the stupid, or the overlong just seems silly. Especially in a time where the majority of players have actual lives to live (unlike a decade ago) and can't dedicate eight hours a night to the same goddamn scene.

We really should find a time to let you drink me under the table.
We should sell tickets.

Oh my god, why is complaining about this still a thing?
Because it's what our parents did about us, their parents did about them, and their parents did about them. Kids do stupid shit, and adults call that stupid shit stupid. Also their music sucks, movies aren't as good now, and nobody speaks English properly anymore.

RE: Cyberrun
Somehow, I think your stance might not be the correct one, even if it feels like it should be.
Oh, no. My stance is that we shouldn't be associated with it. I don't care if it exists, just that it shouldn't be... here.

RE: Back in my day....
Man. Back in my day we had it so much better. There were twice as many Germanies.

RE: Cyberrun
That many of this people have severe levels of 'not okay' with slut shaming, racism, homophobia, sexism, and creeping
Many folks are actually rather okay with it from a character. Because they know the difference between what a character does and what a player does.
Get it through your skull.

pole sitting.
Thankfully that is now called homosexuality and is now legal.

RE: Cyberrun
I understand how complicated everything about the subject is.
Unfortunately we, as a whole, aren't particularly good at discussing exceptionally complicated subjects. Especially when it is a social... leaning that anyone arguing about it is the 'bad guy'.

RE: Back in my day....
On a more serious note, I'd be interested to see if any research had been done into the stupidity of children in other (read: not white American) cultures.
I don't know if one can quantify stupidity to work out which generation did the stupidest thing in their youth, but that'd be an interesting study to see too.

@paris I'd definitely add that unless it directly impacts performance or health, there's no real reason to disallow someone with body mods from working.

RE: PC vs Player Assumptions

So, like, in the spectrum between OOC puzzle-solving exercise and IC dramatics, having a rust monster shows up inclines me toward the former.
It depends on how you frame it, and how your players react to it. Which is largely the subject of the thread. Both approaches are equally possible, these days, and it's important to identify which one you're going for and which one your players want/expect.
