That's definitely a very different take on NPCs compared to what I had in mind...

@Three-Eyed-Crow I don't think that would tell you much without the context of post contents.
Most of my posts are in the Hog Pit. But most of those posts are being snide or sarcastic which wouldn't be evident based solely on statistics.

@Ghost I'll refrain from making a joke about the lack of trust I have in voters...
Are there problems with hostility and stupidity in the MUing community? Yes, absolutely. Not in my personal experience, but if I were any more laid back about MUing I'd be doing it horizontally. This forum is an exceptionally poor metric with which to measure the MUing community. We are not, at all, representative of the average MUer. We're not even really representative of our MUing selves when we're here.
Remembering negatives is an intrinsic part of being alive. Remembering bad things keeps you safe from future bad things, while remembering happy things doesn't. So it's a part of our make up. Simply because we talk more about bad things than good things does not mean that there are more bad things than good.

I feel this is a group problem that needs a group solution.
You're seeing a problem where it doesn't exist. This forum was inspired by others that were all about the bitching. That was its original point. So it's only natural that people would use it for that primarily. I don't believe that most people here are as hostile or aggressive elsewhere.

"MU Things I Love" was started earlier than Gripes and Peeves. But Random Bitching was started earlier than Love.

Okay so my delivery was cheesy, but I think the sheer number of posts dedicated to complaining and breaking people down compared to the number of posts related to loving the hobby or working together is telling.
I think it's important to ponder it.
People come here more often to complain and debate than to talk about their ooey gooey feelings. Shit's not complicated.

@Sunny No. Fuck you. You're wrong about this one particular thing and therefore you are a horrible person in every way!
I love you too, dahling.
In my head, you're now Marlene Dietrich.

RE: Our Tendency Towards Absolutes
@faraday Except that a MU* is larger, generally, than a tabletop group. One can find people to roleplay with that don't annoy them far more easily than at a table. So there's no reason to move on.

RE: Our Tendency Towards Absolutes
@juke Yeah, none of @faraday's examples really seem... bad to me. Except the OOC angst at IC things, that annoys me. But if someone annoys me, or I don't like their posing style, or I just don't like them... I'm not going to RP with them. And that is not a problem, that is a solution to the problem.

RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?
Conversely to the "everyone is always attacking everyone" argument, there's the rather obvious "everyone takes everything said personally" problem.

RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?
@Lemon-Fox Then I don't understand why you suddenly find it toxic.

There was no need to put up a wanted poster with my face on it because someone else suggested breaking the rules.
That was a metaphor.

RE: If you work hard, son, maybe someday you'll RP
@Auspice I believe it's an Indian symbol that was absorbed by the various religions originating in and around India. So it could apply to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism to a lesser extent.

RE: Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?
@Auspice I hate the word 'optics' more than I really should.

but like, burn in a hell with a wi-fi connection so we can still rp.
So. Really no change to what we're already doing?

RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?
@surreality I especially despise people that rely on an appeal to authority to some claimed professional or educational knowledge. I hate appeals to authority normally, but especially on the internet by faceless, nameless, probably lifeless people? No, I don't care if you say you have degrees in X, Y, or Z - 1) I don't believe you, 2) That's not an argument.

RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?
@Derp Oh man, this so goddamn hard. Not being able to make a planned scene because RL comes up? That's a fine thing to bring up. But the big one I fucking hate with a firey passion is people that go on and on and on and on and on about their various maladies and concerns and issues and... do that shit in private. I don't need to see it come up in the middle of every fucking conversation ever.

RE: Poll: Do I enjoy this hobby more than I don't?
"The hobby" is a really bad way of phrasing it, in a way. I enjoy the game I am presently on, I probably wouldn't enjoy a vast many others.
I also have this nasty habit of not caring about what is said here, because it doesn't matter, so I get to have my cake and eat it too.
