RE: Cutey Cat AKA Sensational's Playlist
I am glad that my experience with Sensational has been rather limited despite my having RPed on a lot of mus over the years I've been doing it. JLU was the only game I've had any long-term interaction with them on. I was staff there as well as a player and I can honestly say my love for the mu on both sides of the player/staffer fence died almost entirely the day I found out they were invited to staff as well (it died the rest of the way when another old WORA-ite was invited to staff, this being the person who played Ice opposite Sensational's Fire, if I recall correctly).
ETA: That whole 'Enjoy your ban' quip is exactly why I dislike them. Ugh. Grow the fuck up!

RE: MediaWiki CSS?
@Cobaltasaurus
I was going to drop you a @mail on the game but since this is a thread, thought I'd just bring it up here, instead.
One thing I noticed is that on my iPad, the wiki's search bar is not there. Not on Safari and not on Chrome. Not that there isn't an easy way to get around that in some cases, like if you're looking for a character page - can get to it via the list of character pages - but it makes looking for harder-to-find pages a bit more difficult.

Like I said, hit me up if you need help building. I kind of groove on that (and been told I am pretty good at it), so would be happy to lend my aid getting a grid up.

I don't know why "yes-first" means "never-say-no".
I think for a lot of people, there's an assumption that if you put saying yes ahead of everything else then how can you possibly say no?
But that's a bad implementation.
To offer a counter-example, if a traditionally ran MU* with a mandatory CGen didn't allow almost anyone through without nitpicking through every little detail in the background and forcing everyone to conform to a very narrow, arbitrary standard set by staff it'd be an equally bad way to run their game. That's not on the overall philosophy of filtering new character creations, it's on the particular staff members being anal about it.
Of course it's bad implementation, just like always saying no or having a narrow standard as far as to what will be accepted is. Just got to find a way to find a middle ground, I guess.

Depending on what it is, I could very easily be tempted into helping.

RE: The elusive yes-first game.
And you just touched upon the big thing. Clarity. That can be hard to achieve when you're running around in all sorts of mental circles when trying to get a new game off of the ground. What I suggest is before you even start the 'alpha' invite-only beginning stages is to have someone sit with you as a layman and go over theme/help/etc files. That way if they wind up having any questions they can point it out to you and you can write things in a more concise manner. Always helps to have an extra set of eyes, yadda yadda.

RE: The elusive yes-first game.
It might be one but I can see the logic behind why one would believe that.

I like that comic.

Oh, I agree. That's why I said 'if'. And conversely, staff have to be willing to be explanatory and very specific in WHY they are saying no. It takes reasonable personalities on both sides, and sometimes you don't get that. But it's what we should strive for as MU* staffers, because games continue to tank because of people not being reasonable and being all "MY WAY ONLY'. Compromise is necessary to make things work.I agree. Compromise is one of those things that is needed, from players and staff.
I think a lot of why staffers get a bad rap isn't because they are truly as bad as they are but because the players in question are not willing to work with them and try to find a happy middle ground. Maybe people would find less to grouse about here if they were willing to do that.

RE: The elusive yes-first game.
Ideally? Yes. Realistically? Eh, not as often as one might wish. Sometimes wanting something causes people to become anything but reasonable, as is my unfortunate experience, especially if what is being requested is something the player REALLY wants.

RE: The elusive yes-first game.
I have been on and even helped start a few of these 'yes-first' games. In theory, it's a lovely idea, never saying no. Makes the players happy and happy players means a happy staff. But this has been my experience with such games:
-
Players on game x become unhappy with the heavy handedness of staff.
-
Players decide to make a game of their own, a game where they'll never say no and always say yes, wanting to cater to the needs and wants of the players.
-
Game opens and for a while the 'never say no' thing works and everyone is happy but over time staff comes to realize that it doesn't really work, mostly due to unrealistic demands/expectation of the players, and they really do need to say 'no' more often. Thus the policy changes and saying no becomes more common.
-
Players become unhappy, citing the heavy handedness of staff as the reason why, make their own game...
And the cycle repeats itself, over and over and over again.
In other words, works great in theory, doesn't work so much in practice.

RE: Star Wars: Force and Destiny MUX
I might be able to help you with some building. Done it for several games over the past ten years so am pretty good at it by now. Drop me a message here when you get to that stage and will look into helping you out.

RE: MSB alias/username
I used to be known as OneSnarkyLady on WORA and then decided to go by a different name since I just kinda wanted a fresh start. I am not sure if I was watching a lot of The Simpsons at the time or if Apu's name was just one that somehow stood out but I decided to use that for my new account name, it being what I used here when the old site went tits up.

RE: RL Anger
Not sure what that says about you as a person or the person who was doing the stripping.

RE: RL Anger
I hate how something like Sudafed, which 'may cause drowsiness', knocks me on my ass for an entire day, yet something like Nyquil, which is supposed to make one tired, doesn't do shit to me.

RE: New Comic/Superhero Themed MU*
I get that no one was. I was just trying to be encouraging. It's kind of my shtick.
I also do get that there's no such thing as 'perfectly ran' mu*s. But like I said, I appreciate the intention. That alone is enough to make me want to give the game a try.
-
RE: New Comic/Superhero Themed MU*
I am personally for it. Even if things don't work out exactly as planned and shit happens at least the intention to try and not let things be the way things are on so many mu*s is there, which I appreciate.
I say go for it. The worst that can happen is that things don't work out. But you'll never know if it'll succeed or not unless you try, right? Let me know when this is up and I'll definitely come check it out.

RE: Downvoting
Okay. I am going to regret asking this but what the fuck is a Hansel? And the first person who mentions the kid in the book with the witch and the edible house will forever get downvotes from me.
