For the first time in my adult life, two companies are in a bidding war over my services. I feel like I've finally hit some sort of achievement where a company is going to fight to keep me in my position!

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@macha I couldn't help but think to a conversation I had with my mom recently where she was upset because 'at my age' I shouldn't have any issues with managing my money or dealing with unexpected expenses ($600 vet bill, in this case). And I couldn't help but think that had she not been so consumed with making sure she was financially comfortable, maybe my issues wouldn't have gone undiagnosed for so long. She constantly worked 60-80 hour work weeks so she could sock money away. I was a latchkey kid, learned how to make myself dinner because she was rarely home for it, let alone having the time to really notice that I wasn't just being 'lazy' like my teachers insisted. Or that I spent so much time out of the house so I wouldn't have to deal with her constant criticisms.

RE: Gardens!
I want a garden so badly. I even HAVE a balcony that I could make use of. Unfortunately my upstairs neighbors are filthy assholes that like to dump shit over their balcony... right onto mine.

RE: The Work Thread
@kk The sad reality is that changes are rarely made until people are willing to leave over it. The squeaky wheel really does get the grease, unfortunately that squeak usually has to be represented with two week's notice. And what is getting sadly even more common is the willingness to let good people go so they can hire on someone desperate for less money and who will risk more for longer before complaining.

RE: Season of Endings
It's because Tinuviel was one part of Spider's crew of sycophants. He did some pretty terrible things as staff at her behest, then spent time trying to backtrack and cover for himself. In the end, he admitted his culpability and basically left MUSHing but for staying around MSB. In this case, Spider was the Wicked Witch of the West and Tinuviel was one of her many 'Flying Monkeys' on staff at... TR? I think it was still The Reach.
This was also many moons ago, and I for one, have long since stopped viewing him as some sort of mustache-twirling Snidely Whiplash caricature. I'll miss the guy.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
NGL... my apartment complex has some apartments that have all vinyl "wood" flooring... and I have been tempted af to ask the management if there's any possibility of taking the increase in rent to have the flooring put in, even just in the living room/hallway. I have two senior cats... one of them has a tendency to try and eat bugs (then promptly throw them up along with whatever else is in his stomach), and the other cannot seem to groom herself (which leads to horrendous excess shedding no matter how much I brush her omg where does this short-haired cat get all this FUR from?!)... and those vinyl floors would be a GODSEND in keeping things clean.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@ganymede A lot of women have a poor understanding of how the female body works. Bible Belt sucks for having an extra level of 'your body is sinful and you should do everything you can to never acknowledge it', but it's bad everywhere.

Sometimes I wonder how much of my absolutely childlike lack of knowledge of how my body works can be explained by me growing up in the Bible belt. I'm not even talking about sex stuff; I'm talking about stuff like how I get ingrown hairs if I shave too often or how to clean my ears properly so I don't make my ear buds disgusting. I feel like this is stuff that I would have learned if not for an underlying assumption that my body is sinful and therefore shameful to discuss.
While there's certainly an aspect of that to lay at the feet of the Bible Belt, that's not all of it. Medicine itself doesn't truly understand the female body and how it differs from the male body. Up until about the 90s, women weren't even really taken into account when it came to testing drugs, and updates in how female hormones/organs function and what sort of care/upkeep they require come slowly, if at all, even now. Mammograms haven't really changed since the 1900's. There hasn't been an appreciable update to how to check for breast cancer other than to cause a woman pain and discomfort. Same for pap smears. All the updates to tech and medicine we've seen, you would think there could have been improvements made to either or both procedures. Women still struggle to be taken seriously for any sort of medical complaint, even by female doctors. And this carries over into other things like shaving, skin care, perfumes, makeup... I mean, it's finally, finally just now starting to come out that 'hey, makeup is bad for your skin and you should limit how much you wear and for how long'. And it's still largely being dismissed even as the evidence stares us right in the face. Literally.
So! Yes, being in the Bible Belt doesn't help (hi, raised in Iowa), but that's not the only part of it. I moved away from the BB when I was 18 and quickly found that it doesn't really matter where you go, poor understanding of how the female body works (even to the degree of the similarities between men and women, like shaving) is still rampant.

RE: Decriminalise Pretty
This is why I love the superhero genre. Yes, my character is pretty. She can also punch out your liver, set you on fire, throw you into the sun, deconstruct your mind, or whatever else other kickass power she might have. Judge by looks alone at your own risk.
*empirical 'you', not pointing any specific fingers!

RE: The Work Thread
@macha I feel you on this. I had to try to explain this to someone AS someone on Medicare at the time, telling them that the plan I had was more like an HMO where I had a co-pay for most anything that wasn't just a routine checkup. They refused to believe that I didn't just get all my medical care completely free of charge from 'out of their taxes'. >.>

RE: Cat Character Drawings
@crawfish I had no idea what I was asking when I submitted it other than 'man it would be cool to have all 13 CatGods in one shot'... but it was worth every day and every penny! I love every part of it, I love seeing little things that I overlooked the last time I looked, I love all of it!
I love that Mangata is chilling at the table smiling for the picture like 'this is fine, this is totally fine'. Even though Lagoma has litt he table on fire, half the cats are worried about Aion's sleepyhead, and Tehom is giggling in the mirror. XD
