@betternow I won't say that's not true, but it is not the biggest issue. We can get the parts to where they need to be once they're in the country and through customs. But we're experiencing MAJOR delays in getting the parts into the country and ready for transport. And it's not just sea shipping. Air shipping is getting delayed too. Transport is available, but we lack the parts to take.

@wretched I HAVE to separate out the 2021 dead from the 2022 dead! It is disturbing that we ended one year losing a beloved comedian and started the next losing a beloved comedian.

@macha CNY = Chinese New Year
Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig deal for them. A lot of places will just shut down for the duration.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha Yep! But I still don't trust the attached footrest things. They're never long enough and they always seem two inches away from breaking off.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
Soooooo, I work in material logistics/transportation for a major automotive company. These shortages are deep-rooted and spreading farther and wider as ports are coming under heavier and heavier restrictions for going into/out of America. It's taking a lot longer (sometimes months longer) for our shipments to be released through customs, both coming and going. China is still experiencing heavy shortages across the board, it's no longer just microchips, as COVID continues to evolve and spread. Also, CNY is coming up, so prepare for things there to basically shut down for awhile.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha So, the chair I've been using since.... March of last year (nearly to a year now, yay!) is from Fantasylab (subset of Killabee). They're largely touted for being a more wallet-friendly option to the Secretlab chairs.
This chair is the one that I got. I will say you WILL want a separate foot rest with this chair because it sits high off the floor, but nearly a year of constant, daily use of this chair and I am still sitting comfortably, my back is supported, my butt is cushioned, and I can even sit cross-legged in the chair (because I'm a masochist like that). It's rated to about 350lbs.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha Is color super important? Because I normally caution against getting knockoff brand chairs. The last three that I got all fell apart within 6 months of getting them, even the 'big and tall' versions don't really hold up to constant use for long. I know that money is SUPER tight but I also know you aren't going to want to spend $140 now and then another $200+ in June when the offbrand one starts to break down. There's one from a reputable brand that's priced pretty fairly, but its pink/white so I dunno if that's a dealbreaker.

Be careful with Bang. It's SO SWEET. Holy crap sweet. Southern sweet tea aspires to be that sweet.

RE: Critters!
@silverfox I feel this pain.
I've been trying to switch my cats from a 'grazing on dry food all day/night' thing to a 'fed good wet food at specific times of the day' thing. It's largely working, but it also means that they will incessantly pester me to wake up in the morning to feed them because THEY think enough time has passed.

RE: The Work Thread
@silverfox I have seen and experienced this from the student AND parent side of things. There are times where you really, really just want to do a BYE FELICIA! thing and man is it hard not to just... cackle with glee at not having them around.

RE: The Work Thread
@macha What really sucks? When you have to handle that, but the client has passed, so you get the unpleasant task of having to request a copy of the death cert and any paperwork they might have from the deceased's estate showing that they are empowered to handle the client's estate. Especially when they go 'well I have POA'... yep. That worked... right up until the person passed. Dead people cannot grant POA over anything. Once they pass, it becomes probate and that's a whole other section of law.

Being asked to recreate a report that you got to see done ONCE. Like three weeks ago.

In my household my husband does 90% of the cooking. Not because I CAN'T cook, but because of several reasons.
On the nights I do cook (like today, when there are fucking wildfire evaccuations in DECEMBER and husband must cover them...) I'm reminded of one of the major reasons why I was happy to give up the chore. Mostly because I cannot have the kitchen dirty before I cook, nor leave it dirty after I cook. So on top of the actual prep, here's an easy 20-30 minutes before and after cooking.
DOES ANY ONE ELSE DO THIS?!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeep. I also clean WHILE cooking. Spills are not allowed to sit! If I have to open a package of meat, I must wipe the counter after it has been transferred to the appropriate pan/pot. I make a lot of 1-2 pot meals specifically because I must clean as I go.

I am also goggling over Petrichor, but I have deep love for Petrichor. I will find the blue mushrooms!

RE: Cat Character Drawings
@crawfish I love the quills around the edges of the halo, too! Like they're drawing directly from him to write in the book!

RE: Recipes and Shit
For shrimp I highly recommend Honey Garlic Shrimp and Banh Xeo. Now, admittedly, I hate making crepes. So instead, I usually do an omelet or more traditional pancakes. But YMMV!
Oh, and if you have the fixings... a Seafood Boil is ALWAYS a great family-style dish! I tend to use my own seasoning blends rather than Old Bay (I don't care for bay leaves), and obvs don't need any other seafood but shrimp!
Edit: Also also! For anyone trying to stay low-carb or gluten free.... this is a good shrimp scampi with an alternative to noodles!
