@macha I haaaaaaaate that my favorite breeds are all considered 'dangerous' or 'aggressive'. Rotties, Pits... big, gorgeous dogs. Some of the most friendly dogs. But because people they're 'dangerous'. I still remember this just MASSIVE Rottweiler my neighbor owned some years back. I mean massive. I could have ridden the dog like a damn pony and I'm not sure my feet would have touched the floor. BIG dog. Named Sampson (because of course). Biggest softie in the world. Just a big ol' cuddlebug of a dog. But the number of times people would cross the street and hurriedly usher their children past him while darting fearful glances.... and he would just be lounging! Just laying out in the sun and soaking up the rays. Happy as you could please, Grade A Good Boy. Didn't bark or growl at anyone... poor guy was so maligned.

@ominous Oh there's SO many terrible messages one could take from those movies. But that would be intentionally reading far too much into a comedy about some science guys being sciencey and doing wacky science to save New York!

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
When were any of them supposed to be credible scientists? They were kicked out of the university for not being credible scientists, even in a field that itself was largely considered to be a joke.
Peter Venkman was set up to not be a credible scientist. Didn't you listen to A.D. Yaeger's monologue when they came back to the University from the library? Peter Venkman is a schmoozer and politico, he's exactly the guy that the rest of the professional community hates because he's a black eye on the profession!
Ray Stanz is maaaaaaaaaybe credible as a field scientist? Maybe? His methods are questionable and dangerous. He read paranormal books and took them at face value. Sometimes they were right, sometimes not so much. This is a man who spent the night in a haunted house and got a beej from a ghost. AND LET THE GHOST DO IT. He's all energy and enthusiasm.
Egon Spengler is... questionable as a credible scientist. Sure, he has come up with some amazing inventions and theories. He was also going to drill a hole into his own head. He collected spores, molds, and fungus. He slept with psychoactive pink sewer ooze.
The point is that they were right. They were booted out for all these crazy theories and wild ideas, that turned out to be absolutely true. Ray even expressed hesitation over going into the 'private sector' because they 'expect results' whereas the university did not. But it turned out that everything they'd theorized was true!

mmmm i could go for an uncrustable now
See, I saw circular sandwich and immediately thought about putting a pizza on top of another pizza.
According to one of the pizza places here, that, sir, is called a Pizzadilla.

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@greenflashlight Soooooooooooo... there's no need to talk about theories on why the movie was made. We know why. Dan Akroyd made a whole thing about WHY he wrote Ghostbusters and what it was about. He did it because his entire family is deep into the paranormal (seriously, look up his father and grandfather) and this was HIS way to join that grand family tradition and put down his own beliefs about the paranormal, while also getting to make a movie with his friends.
Fun fact! Ernie Hudson was not the intended fourth for the movie. Originally it was supposed to be Eddie Murphy, and the part was MUCH larger, and different. But then Murphy did Beverly Hills Cop and became a huge overnight success and they couldn't really afford him anymore, so they changed the role and when he appeared in the movie since he was no longer 'one of the friends' but some random dude off the street.
Second fun fact! They didn't know for sure that Bill Murray was going to show up until the first day of shooting... when he showed up. Like, from the time they had asked him if he wanted in and he said 'yeah, sure' there was zero contact between Akroyd/Ramis and Murray until the first day of shooting.

@silverfox I despise the cat limit at my complex. I get why, nobody wants a cat horder in the building... but this apartment is about 1200 square feet and could absolutely host more than two cats comfortably. But... I also tend to adopt senior cats, so I have much empathy.

RE: RL things I love
@ganymede Look. There comes a day in every child's life where they have to realize that 'growing up' with a game means different things to an 8 year old than a 38 year old. My kids like to try to school me at games now and then. And then I remind them that mom has been gaming since she was old enough to hold an Atari joystick and Nintendo gun. And that while they grew up with games that could be paused and saved or the ability to avoid characters that are annoying... mom grew up with games that HAD to be won in a single run, and that damned dog snickering every 90 seconds.

RE: Dead Celebrities 2021 Edition
I really cannot verbalize how sad this makes me. As a musical buff? This is a hard one to take. Stephen Sondheim was so talented and so clever with everything he did. I actually got my start in musicals because my aunt was in uni at the time, and was part of their music department. Sondheim is a staple of ANY musical theater, and even though she ended up branching into opera (cause my aunt has PIPES), I will never ever forget seeing her play Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd. I just watched Gypsy again a few days ago and was marveling over the range required for the songs in that show.
I can't think of a single person I know that hasn't heard SOMETHING he's done, even if they aren't aware it's his work.

So now, work has taken away two holidays, on top of screwing everyone with the work load.
People are getting snarky and pushing back in chat (people that aren't me!).
It's like they are TRYING to implode.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@ganymede Gets better, though. Insurance companies are now being pickier about what houses they'll insure! My mom's house was built in 1982. The roof was last replaced about 11 years ago, but has been inspected and found to still be structurally sound. However, insurance companies in Florida are now claiming they won't insure houses that are more than 20 years old... or that have roofs more than 10 years old.
So now she's having to scramble to get new insurance in place, only to find out that there's maybe 3 companies left that will still insure her house. She's not a flood zone, and there hasn't been anything more than a Category 1 hurricane that's hit her area in the last 20 years... but they now claim that it's too high of an insurance risk and they won't cover it. So she's having to pay an increased insurance cost from a less reputable company so that she can have insurance on her house so that she can have the roof replaced... so that she can have lower insurance with a 'reputable' company.. that refuses to insure her house because it's 'too old'.

@silverfox Seconded. My mom had a radical hysterectomy at 35. She's had to take estrogen pills ever since but like... small price!

@silverfox so their marketing team can pimp out their Official Microsoft Office classes and refreshers! Low low price of more money than the program itself costs!

RE: Critters!
@silverfox I do that trick for my old man with the bad paw. It hurts him on cold days, so I put a heating pad under one of his blankets and maaaaaaaan, I am the DEVIL if I try to move him from it!

@silverfox That is the face of a cat who is about to tell you all about the Grand Mouse Conspiracy. XD

Seconding the pumice stone. I build up 'hard heels' really quickly. Having a pumice stone to use in the shower has done WONDERS for how nice my feet feel.
