@coin Yeah, and the First Evil is presumably at least as big a deal as the Senior Partners (bigger, conceptually?). But that's why I said her villains tended to be smaller scale.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
You should spend some time developing the themes and scale you want as well as the setting. Picking an interesting place is important, but how involved are the various powers at play, and how zany are things going to get?
Like, going back to the whole Buffy vs Angel thing, Buffy was largely agnostic about a lot of the Higher Power stuff? They maybe nudged events here and there, but Buffy herself didn't really seem to care either way about them and her villains tended to be very small scale and personal (until the finale with the First Evil anyway); she just wanted to grow up and live her life. Angel's entire life was constantly screwed with by the Powers That Be, and his whole thing was destiny and fate and ancient prophecies and his villains tended to be (on the whole) huge and impersonal.
Where is the game going to land on that scale? Are there "tiers" of cosmic involvement that players can opt into and out of? Stuff to think about, maybe!

As noted above "Right, because a universe set in Buffy isn't a Buffy game" - I guess you'll say Angel wasn't buffy because it involved adults and wasn't in a small town?
I mean...it wasn't? Angel and Buffy were two very different shows with different thematic elements, moods, and storytelling methods. They had characters and lore in common, but that's not really what I think @sunny means by that.
Buffy is a big mood.

I did acid once (about seven? Eight? years ago?( and I've not had that happen thankfully. Honestly sometimes I kind of wanna do it again because the whole "orange juice is absolutely insanely amazing" thing is true. >.>
But then I remind myself that a) I'm in my thirties now, b) it could all go wrong a second time.I wouldn't ever do LSD again, it was waaaaay too intense for me. I didn't have a bad trip or anything, I was very aware the whole time that I was hallucinating and that it would eventually be over, and parts of it were either really funny or really enlightening or both in a way that is still with me, but I was also very aware of how easily things could possibly go bad, and that they would go really bad.
I still wanna try shrooms again though sometime, haha. >____>

Acid flashbacks.
They're not scary anymore, they're not even all that bizarre, they're just really disorienting and kind of annoying to wait out now, all because my ex and I thought doing acid one time was a super great idea, like almost five years ago now.

I am extremely jealous of my kid. I took him into daycare and apropos of absolutely nothing, he started ducking around corners and ninja running from shadow to shadow, and if I did that at my workplace they'd probably have me committed.

I jus don't want to run a game where the first time a player who comes in as something to the effect of a space marine and calls a homosexual man "degenerate," which is a pretty reasonably in character thing for such a character to do, and have to deal with a massive meltdown from my playerbase.
And you are more than free to have your space be that place, no one is contesting that. Just understand that that is not OK to spring on people, if those are the kinds of themes and the kind of environment you are apparently at the very least OK with if not actively encouraging -- players should be giving their informed consent that that is the kind of arena they are about to enter.
Like, had we not all had this conversation, no one would have been aware that this is your vision of the game and that sensitive content is going to go largely unfiltered. That's an important warning to a lot of people!
For the love of god man, if you don't want a meltdown, then put up a disclaimer.

Harassment of player != harassment of character. If a player harasses my other players, they're banned. If someone's character harasses some other character, that's a shadier zone. A much shadier one. The expectation that your character needs administrative protection from uncomfortable speech/actions against them, to me, seems excessive.
I... think you're going to find that not a lot of people agree with the distinction you're trying to make there in regards to offensive behavior or harrassment. Personally, I find your argument bizarre. A "character" is not a person, it's an imaginary construct that has a real life person behind it. Content that is by its nature sensitive or offensive could be imposed on a REAL-LIFE PERSON that, according to you, is obligated to exposure because...it's a stream of consciousness? It's not, man, it's not actually someone's literal unfiltered stream of consciousness being automagically channeled into the void, the output from that chat channel on your game is the result of a deliberate choice by another living breathing player who could very well use the excuse of "oh, it's my character's subconscious! Bleh!" to say or behave however they want with no other justification.
It's pretty black and white.

I was under the impression that the IC shared connection channel could be used as this central hub. What more would be needed?
Well, it's a public channel, for one thing, and it can get very spammy with just three or four people. And as it works right now, it's anonymous - player names are removed. It's a bigger adjustment than I was expecting, it's not like you can just waltz on down to the local coffee shop and RP with whoever is there and what I'm trying to say is that that is something a lot of players are probably used to taking for granted.
@golgoth said in Dreamwalk MUSH:
It could also be an actual player's dream to BE that central hub and then to build it more and more as players come together to think of that dream AS the central hub.
I might pitch that idea to the players in the game tonight when I get home.Just be aware that @ixokai and I talked about this idea with @Demiurge for quite a while already and he is pretty strongly opposed to there being some sort of easy way to set up or access any kind of central location like that. Like, pretty vehemently.
On the other hand, I guess that's one approach we didn't take, and there's nothing really stopping you from creating a dreamer character who's a bartender or whatever and trying to get everybody to link up to your dream tavern, for example.

RE: Dreamwalk MUSH
Just my two cents: pretty cool concept, but the headwiz has a very strong vision of what he wants this game to be and it'd be beneficial to get some text up explaining the core mechanics to people ASAP so they can decide in advance if it sounds like something that they'd be comfortable with.
Biggest hurdle I think most people will have to clear is that there is not and will not be a shared hub for RP, all interactions between characters are paid for in advance and made through connecting up personal spaces to interact in.
Not really something I could get behind, but if that sounds cool, more power to you.
