Of course you wouldn't. They routinely tear apart Republican claims. πŸ˜„

Well there is that. But it's more the repeated accusations of embezzlement first from his ex-wife and now his new partners.

      Hmmm...

People who are vested in and benefit from a certain accusation that has not, as yet, passed the court giggle test are making that accusation. And a person who is predisposed to not liking a site because it routinely tears apart stories from his own political camp is predisposed to believing that accusation without proof.

What is this called again? Confirmation something?

I hear lots of repeated accusations that the Trump family is riding roughshod over America's democratic institutions in collusion with the Russians. Since there are repeated accusations of this, by Tyche logic they must be true!

@WTFE I'm going to assume you're only half talking to me

Yeah. The half where I'm saying people who randomly change the UX of a site every fucking second week piss me right the fuck off.

Oh. That's pretty much the whole rant, isn't it?

For the most part, the UX is pretty much unchanged

Well, except for the part where it looks ugly as shit, where it randomly decides to look different on each visit, where everything has been moved around or hidden behind cryptic "three dots" menus, etc. You're right. Aside from, you know, about 85% of the UX, the UX is pretty much unchanged.

This upgrade actually allows a little more in the way of customization for users by letting them select a color palette that might be more pleasing to them.

Yay! I can select a colour palette! Maybe I can make mine shit brown to reflect the lovely new user experience!

As for the more ranty half of the post, your lawn is looking particularly fine today.

Just stay the fuck off of it.

@Kestrel You know, it is actually possible that "create the game that you want" is precisely what @surreality is doing…

What I'm seeing is a lot of people bitching that it's not the game they want.

My answer is a lot harsher. That article spent a good 2/3 of its verbiage on the sexual pasts of people in the company. That is a sign of weaksauce horseshit that they stirred a sexual scandal into to taint, as it were, the jury pool in the trial by media.

And that, all by itself, tells me the narrative being pitched is bullshit.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

@Meg said in Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning:

I slept on this and thought about it so I could make sure that I wasn't wading back in in a reactionary way. But I have to disagree; I'm sorry. I don't think you're being fair to Kanye Qwest.

This is your privilege. Just be aware that KwazyKwest's antics are off-putting to more than just an arrogant ass here who feels the need to speak up. If you feel that on the whole KwazyKwest does more good than harm to your game, then by all means speak up in defense of her. Just be aware this comes with a cost. In this case the cost is that people reading her ravings are going to assume that this is representative of the game runners' approach to things.

Kanye Qwest has some consistent, repeatable, pretty obvious buttons.

IRL I have a motherfucking HUGE^WYUGE button: aboriginal affairs in Canada. I took a lot of shit in my youth from aboriginal gangs. I cannot possibly deal with aboriginal matters without that colouring my position.

      So I don't.

I step away from arguments involving aboriginal peoples. In the one case where I was (circuitously) involved with disciplinary proceedings involving an aboriginal coworker, I asked to kindly be removed from the decision-making process because my intensely negative experiences with Canada's native population in the past would strongly colour my stance to the point of unfairness.

This is what mature people do when they recognize a hot button and a tendency to overreact on a given topic. They recuse themselves. Absent that maturity (which KwazyKwest obviously lacks!), other people remove them from the position when it's recognized.

You obviously recognize KwazyKwest's irrational hot button. You choose to leave her exposed anyway. This now reflects poorly on you (for the first time in this thread, incidentally).

(He's admitted he was being dickish, we all can agree, whatever.)

Yes. Thenomain has a strong tradition of being a mealy-mouthed dick. And he has similarly pleasant things to say about me. And yet … here I am defending him. When two people who do not like each other are in support of one another against one of yours, it may be time to rein in that one, no?

And it didn't really have to be Thenomain. I know it seems like it's Thenomain a lot, but she has been consistent, on game and on this thread, in wanting to make sure that people aren't doing things that will stomp on other people's fun.

It has been so disproportionately Thenomain that I honestly can't name another person she's gone off on like a MOAB. More than once. She does not come across as being defensive. She comes across as being ... well, KwazyKwest.

You can't call a doorbell crazy and overreactive if you go to press it 20 times.

You can call, however, a person crazy and overreactive if they present their button and say "here it is, press it!" and if they consider every off-hand comment a button press.

Again, all of this is fine. I'm not telling you how to run your game or manage your community. I'm telling you that there is a cost associated with the way you're choosing to run it. Right now, KwazyKwest's batshit insanity reflects on your game. Enjoy the shitshow. Especially now that you've practically come out and encouraged the behaviour.

@Sunny On the plus side, if people are picking at something that's really just not reasonable to pick at (I'm thinking of the Flights n' Tights one here), people will call that out pretty quickly, too.

IIRC there were two criticisms of Flights'n'Tights. One was the invalid "ew, gay superheroes!" one. The other was calling out the "we're inclusive" thing paired with the "no girls!" thing juxtaposed with it. That latter one is valid, IMO.

Curious: What is it about GoT (which is in so many ways genericly fantasy-ish) that so many folks who want a fantasy game dislike? Are you looking for more high-fantasy magic-and-elf-PCs stuff, or?

For me it's just that I didn't like the first book (didn't get past 50 pages before giving up on it) and thus am not familiar with the setting and don't really want to get that familiar with it. Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed the few scenes I played at your game, but the setting wasn't the appeal even slightly.

I log everything not because I'm obsessive, and not because I'm always having a need for "evidence" but rather because I've been asked too many times over the years, "would you happen to have a log of that thing that happened there and then with those guys?" Logs don't take up appreciable space on my drive and it's trivial to set them up to open and close automatically at connection and disconnection.

I also log all my IM communications for similar reasons.

    • RE: Where's your RP at?

@Ghost said in Where's your RP at?:

Personally? I don't seek to kill off characters. I just believe that risk needs to be actual risk, which means the possibility of failure, and when I GM games, I will allow characters to fail, because games that do not do so tend to become snowflake fests.

I think it's hilarious that you think of killing PCs as the only (or at least a major) way to fail. I think this shows more about your GMing style than anything about players being precious snowflakes.

Some of my most excruciating failures in tabletop RP were excruciating precisely BECAUSE my character didn't die.
