RE: MSB: The meta-discussion
@Arkandel said in MSB: The meta-discussion:
Since it's come up a lot in both private conversations lately but also in Random Bitching, I'm wondering what your views are on MSB's (and WORA's before it) effect on the community and course of MU*ing in general has been.
I would have quit all online text gaming over a decade ago had there not been a WORA-alike at the time. (I think we've just conclusively proved that WORA/SWOFA/MSB has been a huge net negative...)
Aside from our personal feelings on the matter, i.e. if we're using it as a way to connect and catch up with with friends over time, how do you think this place's existence has influenced our corner of gaming as a whole?
The existence of WORA-alikes has ensured that no game can really get away with its bullshit undetected for long. Yes there have been some horrors inspired by WORA (like mortuary porn-spamming) but on the whole I think WORA-alikes have been a net positive--albeit probably not as much of a net positive as some of its advocates would claim.
Might also remind everyone this is inthe constructive section of the site.
Fuck you, you son of a bitch.
I mean, sorry, constructive...
I hope that you have undesired sexual intercourse inflicted upon you after your mother crawls out from under the porch and bites you on the leg.

RE: RL Anger
To be fair, all those bizarre rules for passwords that companies employ really are bogus bullshit; they're the result of pure cargo cult thinking. I rather doubt that this guy knows this, however, and thus is not arguing from that particular stance.

RE: Comic book diversity
@Bobotron said in Comic book diversity:
Comics are also getting harder and harder to follow nowadays, I feel like. Comic A references LImited Book H, comic crossover B requires you to know (and care) about all of these other characters (like X-Men vs. Inhumans, I could give two shits about the Inhumans personally, but for me to know X-Men I have to read it).
This. This right here. In my short-lived comics collector phase (about five years total) I was getting tired of this game in the fucking nineteen-eighties! From what I gather observing from afar, between reboots and tie-ins and overarching "Secret Wars"-style plots and consolidations and and and and I just won't even bother sticking a toe into that pool any longer.
Were I going to look at comics at all, I'd look at creator-owned limited runs or their ilk, not anything from Marvel or DC who've made such a total fucking mess of things I'm genuinely not interested in their fare any longer.
Even if it is more "diverse".

Internet-connected garage door opener gets remotely disabled because of bad Amazon review.
This, children, is why you DON'T BUY ANYTHING HOOKED UP TO THE INTERNET OF SHIT.

Motherfucking April Fool's Day.
WHY!?
Why do we set aside a day each year for the incompetent to play unfunny "jokes" on people? I mean c'mon you fucking lightweights. I'm unfunny 365 days a year. I don't need a day set aside for my idiocy! Follow my fucking lead you assholes.

I had a Vulcan whose name was T'kela. At Academy, her friends called her Tequila, complete with "One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three T'kela, Floor" jokes when she'd drop someone for whatever reason. She never got the joke.
(I mean, as long as we're sharing ST game pun stories...)
I played the slightly demented assistant chief engineer on a Trek game. He was smitten with the female Vulcan head of security: T'Prynn. Whom he consistently referred to as "Hester".

I'm still desperate for a decent Star Trek game. Doesn't have to be anything groundbreaking, just... decent.
What constitutes decent? Do you need a space system? Do you need RP by report? Hell, do you even need a game system?

RE: What do you WANT to play most?
@Lisse24 I could tolerate a well-made superhero game, I think. (I'll let you know for sure when I find one.) I've tried WoD on several different MU*es and several different spheres now. I just can't stand anything about it, starting with the game system and moving on up to setting, themes, etc. Just drives me up the fucking wall. The typical WoD player is the final nail in the coffin of my interest.

RE: What do you WANT to play most?
I put "Other" because there wasn't an "ABW" choice (Anything but WoD).

In China (for a variety of reasons, including one that's so funny you'd swear I was making it up if I told you so I won't) fountains are still the dominant writing instrument. Ballpoints are available and used, but most people reach for a fountain when doing anything serious. (Indeed you're NOT ALLOWED to use a ballpoint on some official documents for reasons which escape me!) As a result, I've gotten back into using fountain pens.
As a minor-league enthusiast for the fountain pen myself, I am now intensely curious as to the reason why fountain pens are still the dominant writing instrument there.
Until literally this year they were unable to make the balls for ballpoints themselves. This meant they had to import them which jacked up the cost.
(And now I need to go and get a whetstone and see if this can resuscitate some of my late father's delightfully retro but awkwardly scratchy vintage Parkers.)
A minimum of 4000 grit to shape (I use 5000) and 8000 grit to polish (I use 10,000). Anything lower than 4000/8000 and you'll make the pens worse, likely.

RE: Names
I have not played on Shang but I love the descriptions over the years. How can you not like Baskin Robbins? Compared to everything else that gets shared here, I dunno, I thought it was really cute and almost sweet!
I think my favourite was the woman I stumbled over once who had glass shards (or were they metal? I forget) growing out of her flesh. The description was both tasteful and extremely detailed. The player was interesting to talk to as well.
