Just to update those of you that are interested, especially those of you who have offered to help build, things are progressing. Thanks to the discussion on this forum about grid size I've decided to expand on the grid a bit moving it into what I would consider a mid-ranged sized grid. I'm also stamping out some bugs that my wife found in c-gen. Things are moving forward, however, which I'm very excited about. As soon as the grid is done I'm going to invite over those of you who offered to help build hangouts. I'm hoping by the end of the week. Thanks for the interest!

Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
I’m trying to take a measured approach to getting Whispers open but I cannot deny that additional help would be greatly appreciated. I know some people offered to help out in my initial thread but I thought I’d make an official post about what I’m working on, what is finished, and what remains to be done.
Code: I’m all set on code. I coded all of the systems and can code anything that we may need in the future. I have no need for any sort of code help at this time.
Building: This is the big one. I could really use some help building the grid. Based on feedback in the other thread I think this can be broken down into global rooms and hangouts. If there were people willing to take up the tasks of building the global grid (Sleepy Hollow itself) and various hangouts/RP spots that would move this along tremendously. I’m not looking for anything grand in either department. The global grid probably does not need to be more than 15-20 rooms and each hangout/rp spot likely only needs to be 1-3 rooms each. I’m also planning on utilizing a temporary room code so that players can add on as needed.
Plots: This will be more of an “after we open” sort of thing but I’d like to get some people on who are willing to run regular scenes for people. I’m a big supporter of player run plots and firmly believe that players should have the ability to motivate their own RP. As such I won’t be expecting much from my plot staff, if they can run 1 scene a week I’ll be happy.
Help Staff: Another “after we open” sort of thing but I’d love to have some people who can answer player questions regarding theme, the unisystem, or whatever.
Right now most of the code is done and I have a wiki set up at wikidot.com for things like theme information and information regarding the unisystem (everything needed to know is on the wiki in regards to the system). What I really need help with is in the building area.
If anyone is interested in helping out in any of the above areas just send me a PM and we’ll talk. Thanks!

RE: Non-WoD Horror Game (Buffy, Cthulhu, Etc)
To update the thread it looks like the game is happening. Unfortunately I have been sick the last few days so we've gained little traction but I have the next few days off of work with nothing to do but watch old Buffy eps and work on the game.
As for when we will be opening...that's a tougher question. The short answer is "when we're ready", which we are hoping is sooner rather than later. I'll keep people updated as we go, however.

RE: Twinking in RP MU*
I'm okay with it in the form of having a concept and maximizing the idea of that concept. I think it goes both ways, I once played a big and strong boxer who was not very bright. I made sure his mental stats were below average and took some disadvantages that actually came into play through RP. What I hate are the people who take, say, Strength 5 (in a system where 5 is max human) and describe their character as being thin and possibly even "frail".

RE: Non-WoD Horror Game (Buffy, Cthulhu, Etc)
Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I'm actually pretty happy with most of the stock unisystem stuff. Mostly because I have it all coded out and all of the pertinent information is already uploaded to the wiki. I'm not keen on redoing large chunks of it.
We're definitely leaning towards doing it. We liked Sleepy Hollow because it had that whole gothic feel immediately ready but it wasn't such a well known RL location that we couldn't futz with it a bunch to expand upon it as we saw fit. It's also fairly close to Manhattan which opens things up a bit. Not grid wise but in rationalizing why there might be a lot of people in or around the area.
My wife actually likely wouldn't be staff. She helped build and stuff but wouldn't likley be on staff proper. We're more concerned with some of the house rule stuff we'd be including, primarily Highlander style immortals.
Again, thanks for the thoughts and suggestions!

Non-WoD Horror Game (Buffy, Cthulhu, Etc)
So a year or so ago my wife and I were going to open up a Buffy the Vampire Slayer game. Set in modern day and treating Buffy canon as having happened when the show aired (so all potential slayers became full slayers in 2003). At the time this had given the world 10 years to evolve since then.
The problem is we were going to base it in a fictional version of Sleepy Hollow. We liked how The Reach had families which created instant avenues for PC connections and RP and hoped to emulate that with famous families from that story (Van Brunts, Van Tassels, etc) borrowing heavily from the Tim Burton movie. Then we read about a Sleepy Hollow TV show and decided to scrap the idea to avoid confusion. We were going to go with an alternate setting but could never quite settle on one.
So here we are 2 years later and my wife is like "we should do it anyway". So I guess my question to the masses is...could a non-WoD game work? I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm mostly concerned with could a BUFFY non-WoD game work. We'd be using the cinematic unisystem, which is all coded and ready to go and what not. I'm just not sure if the Buffy-verse would still be a draw going on 12 years since the show went off the air.
Going along the same lines about about other non-WoD systems? Call of Cthulhu (classic or Trail) for instance? I think the trick with that would be constant stories and making sure people did not get attached to their PCs.
Anyway, at work and bored and thought I'd toss this out into the wild to see what kind of responses I got. Thanks for reading!
