      I think there are a fair number of MU players who dig action games. Folks who turn up on BSG and such. It's certainly not as prevalent as some other genres, but we do exist.

      I don't know if GI Joe specifically would get much traction. The live action versions never took off with audiences, and the Saturday morning cartoon version maybe doesn't have the same nostalgia and staying power as some comic franchises.

      But who knows. No harm in trying. Folks can have fun on a small game. TGG never had more than a dozen players, but we were a dozen passionate players.

      I like it when I can access all the information I need from a single window. If I have to use something available elsewhere, it is just a tiny jarring for me. This isn't to say I won't do it, but it's just a preference: us old farts are used to fully-integrated games.

      The hidden playing of cards is a way to emulate predicting or reacting to your opponent's moves. It's referred to as yomi in some circles, so if anyone is looking for ways to get that feeling with something other than RAW Street Fighter, that term may help you find some inspiration.

      You'll also find at least one martial arts fighting card game by the same name.

      @zombiegenesis I don't know too much about Transformers, (having seen only a couple of the movies and the Rescue Bots kids show) but I can speak generally about combat in FS3.

      The weapon/armor behavior is complicated (described in detail here), and is probably the hardest part of the system to balance.

      Skew it too much one way, and bullets bounce off bulletproof vests like Superman. Skew it too much the other way, and bullets tear through them like paper. With a wide variety of weapon types all having different penetrative capabilities (pistols, shotguns, knives, rifles, etc.) it is incredibly tedious to tune everything to generate a "fun" balance.

      The built-in BSG configuration does have two "classes" of weapons and armor built in - personal and vehicle. This works because:

      The weapons and armors of each class are balanced against each other. Cross-class combat (i.e., a rifleman versus a space fighter) is pretty uncommon thematically in BSG, so the quirks of the system can be hand-managed by the GMs.

      I think you could make the transformer robots work similar to the vehicles in the BSG setting, but having it also tuned for titans would probably be a bridge too far.

      Not much of an update, no. I've just been spinning my wheels on what direction to take the game, both thematically and mechanically. I've also had some upheaval at work I've been dealing with(a big change in my work schedule being a part of it) and I've been helping some people with other games as well. So my attention has also been divided.

      Anyway, and unfortunately, there's been no real forward progress on this idea. Just a lot of spitballing and discussions with people about things.

      I don't know that I'd want to keep young heroes and established heroes separate the way some suggestions kinda sound, but having distinct group or corner of the setting for the younger heroes to have things to do independantly is probably a good idea. I really don't know that I'd put the flying demigods in the same exact town as the brooding vigilantes though.

      It might be fun if some/most of the established or teamed up heroes have some degree of interest and role in the education of new heroes too, but I don't think I'd want that to be the core theme. It's nice to have room for heroes to be doing their own things, and not JUST be, like, an established peace keeping force like in, say, My Hero Academia.

      My knee jerk response to creating a "Gods and Monsters" style MUSH would be to use Wild Talents. It can be clunky in some areas but my group had a lot of fun with it and once you get over the learning spike(I don't think it's much of a curve, it's more like a big spike but once you figure it out the game is pretty slick) you can create characters pretty quickly and there are not a lot of limits on what you can create. I think the problem is the system might be TOO open for a game with 10-20 players on it. Also, that learning spike might end up being a wall for some people and one not worth trying to climb over.

      With Aberrant, I'm working on stripping it down and simplifying it a bit. Not to a toolkit level but trying to make it so you could at least get in quick and come close to making whatever you wanted.

      I can't say why yet, but soon it'll be a great time to make an M&M based MU*. One of the books I worked on would be greatly useful for a superhero MU*ing environment, I just literally can't explain why until it's out >__<.

      I think it ought not be the case -- what you said about show characters seldom advancing in rank.

      Trek MUs have, as far as I know, generally been focused on the militaristic bit, with rules for rank advancement set in, and often set in wartime.
