Surprisingly there has been little to no interest in Slayers. Everyone wants to be a genius, art master, sorcerer for some reason.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Mostly because I had more than a few apps (or conversations about apps) that involved Dexterity 8 + multiple other combat stats at 5+ with little to no points put into other skills. There's been an odd drive of "I must be the biggest combat monster evar!" that I was not expecting.
Also, in the Buffy RPG the combat system is driven so much towards the Dex attribute that it is probably broken. As such I've had several apps (or app convos) that involved putting few points in other attributes but pumping Dexterity up to 8 or 9.
The limits I've put on the combat stats are still very liberal and allow for characters with a focus on combat it just requires them to also think about other aspects of their characters existence (I hope).
Hope that helps explain things!

So it has been brought to my attention that wikidot is stupid with ads. I've been spoiled by AdBlock and never see any of them so I thought it was a nice clean site. I'm in the process of scrapping up the money to register a domain for Whispers and get it hosted with its own wiki. So, if all goes as planned, it should have its own ad free wiki in the near future.

Yeah, muxmadness is generic because I host a number of games there. Our wiki can be found here though http://whispersinthedark.wikidot.com/.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Well today was a productive day. We got some new players, some of these players helped me squash some newly found bugs, some of these squashed bugs inadvertently prettied up the +sheet. We also have a family head being apped who is looking to start some Van Tassel drama in the near future. We're off to a slow start but we're off to a start and I'm pretty happy with it.
For those wondering Whispers in the Dark takes place in modern day treating the events of the show as if they happened with the show aired so it's been over a decade since Buffy and Angel were really last seen. We don't use any of the comics as canon, just the two television shows.

Sorry it's muxmadness.com not org. I'm too use to doing things for my work (which is a .org). Updated and fixed.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Ok, the update I wanted to do to character generation is complete. I'm sure it's not bug free but I think I've got the code to a point where I can fix any bugs that do crop up now fairly quickly. I'm still adding onto the grid but that will likely be an ongoing process. I'm also still trying to flesh out the families but I'm thinking I'll wait till we get some players on and let them decide how things move forward in that regard.
So...with all that said I think I'm comfortable moving from an "open house" stage to a sort of "soft opening". Soft in the regards that people know that right now I'm the only staffer, things may be slowish going at first, and bugs will very likely be discovered in the code. But I would consider us open for full applications and RP at the address below.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Ok, so we've hit a spot where every time I think I've fixed something I find out 3 more things are broken. That said...I think I'm just about done. Over the weekend I'm planning on doing a major update to part of character generation that I think will take care of the last lingering issues. At least the last of the issues that I think could break the game. Then we'll be able to move forward.
If I get everything done I'm looking to get done tomorrow I'll post a "soft open" advertisement. If it doesn't get done until Saturday I'll probably hold off till Sunday night as Sunday is my TT day. Either way I think we're closing in on an actual opening so...yay!

RE: E3 2015
RE: Which console to buy
I don't think that's an easy question to answer. I own both and they are both have their upsides and their downsides. If you use it for entertainment at all the XBox One might be a good bet. When I had satellite I had it piped through the XBox One and the voice commands worked really well with it. The ability to just say "XBox On" and have it turn on my satellite, TV, and XBox was really convenient.
That said my primary system is the PS4. I'm not a FPS type person either so Halo is no draw for me. Bloodborne, however, was. It does cheese me off that the new Tomb Raider is an XBox One exclusive but whatever.
My suggestion? Look at the list of exclusive games for each console and decide which list you like better.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Thought I'd give an update for those following.
I didn't receive any negative feedback on the grid so I'm going to look leave it as it is and work on expanding it with hangouts.
I'm also going to flesh out the families of Sleepy Hollow and start working on what we'll be looking for when we open. Established members of the family and what not. Once I get to that point I'll likely move from "open house" to a "soft opening" for those people looking to help flesh out the families and the town.
The open house is ongoing so anyone interested should feel free to stop by and take a look around. All thoughts and opinions are welcome!

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
While this was a pretty busy week (my niece graduated high school and my wife and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary) I still managed to get some decent feedback on the game. I was alerted to some c-gen bugs and realized I need to put some more stuff up on the wiki. All in all a good week. Things should start moving more quickly since I'll be around more often starting this week.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Okay, I think I've gone about as far as I can go on my own. If you're interested in stopping by and giving what I've got up a look then come on over. I just want anyone who does to keep a few things in mind...
1: I wouldn't even call the game beta ready. The code isn't as well tested as I'd like, I'm not happy with the grid (and there are no hangouts built yet), and the wiki isn't quite finished yet. So if any of that bothers you it would likely be best to avoid the game for the time being.
2: This is less of an "opening" and more of an open house. What I'd like is for some people to come over, give the place a look, test out c-gen, etc. and so on.
3: While I'm fine with people creating characters and even exploring a bit of RP if it helps test the waters and stuff just keep in mind that it will all likely get retconned when we do finally go live. That's really it. At this point I'm really looking for some external motivation and some thoughts on the direction that the game is going. I want to be sure I'm creating a place that people will want to play at. If you're up for helping in those areas then, please, stop by! I'm Captain Crunch on the game.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Update
Been slow going for a number of reasons. Weather, the flu, family stuff, and what have you but we're back on track now. The grid is almost done. I'll be posting the address as soon as I'm comfortable having people come over to hang out in an "open house" sort of fashion. Let people see how things are shaping up, maybe play around in the character generation system, etc. I'm hoping that will be either Saturday or Monday (Sunday is my TT day and I'll be away all day).
Thanks for your patience!

RE: TMNT & Other Strangeness MU*?!
The problem I have with going full Rifts is the character generation. When I think about it it'd be a nightmare. They have so many character classes that it'd be impossible to do them all. You'd have to start with a core set and then build from there as needed. I suppose with that in mind it could be done, especially if you build early on with an eye for future expansion.
My questions is, would you have to stick with the Palladium system? Which I personally love (I own almost all of the Rifts books, most of them autographed thanks to their yearly X-Mas Grab Bag deal) but I can see how it could be intimidating to a new player. What about using another system like M&M 3E? A few years ago I was working with a friend on a Rifts-like game and that was what we were planning on using. I think it works well, scales very well, and is much easier to slip into.
That said I may play around with a Palladium based c-gen just for gits and shiggles.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
My peeve: F'n snow. Over the last 3 weeks we've gotten something like 36 inches with another 20 or so anticipated between today and Sunday.
I'm over it.

RE: TMNT & Other Strangeness MU*?!
I'm actually a big Palladium fan. I coded up a Heroes Unlimited MUX way back in the early 2000's. Never had much play but it was fun to code. When my TT group as playing After the Bomb I started work on a c-gen system for it. Never got too far but it was something I was very interested in. I always thought it'd be a blast to play in an After the Bomb type setting or even just "mutant animals infest NYC" type thing.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
Just a quick update. The massive amount of snow my area has gotten in the past week or so has managed to slow things down for me a bit. Even so things are moving forward. I continue to make progress on the grid. I'm fairly happy with it so far. I have a long weekend ahead of me and I'm hoping to get the grid down and some final troubleshooting accomplished on the character generation system. Once those are done I'll be inviting over those of you who offered to help build some hangouts.

RE: Non-WoD Horror Game (Buffy, Cthulhu, Etc)
I have a TT group that runs Monsterhearts and we have a blast with it. We run a Vampire Diaries-esque type game and it works really well. I was dubious given how lite the system is but I'm a fan.

RE: Whispers in the Dark - A Buffy MUX looking for help
RE: The Grid - I've taken the reigns on that. I have a vision for it now and I think it is coming out rather nicely.
RE: Timeline - We're post season 7. We're treating season 7 like it happened in 2003 and we're opening in 2015 so 12 years have passed. We treat only the TV series as canon (Buffy and Angel) so no comic stories are canon.
