Same with great role players. They're awesome! Surely they are waiting for a scene to start, so I shouldn't bother asking. When in reality? They're staring at the OOC room chatter.

      This is so a thing.

It is a thing, but I'm swimming in RP. I think I found the solution!

I had a question about the process of opening sphere spots. I have little skin in the game since I already have a supernatural character (and am not really looking for an alt), but what are your guys' thoughts about prioritizing their selection in any way other than first-come first-served?

In other words, do you prioritize players who rolled mortal/mortal+ characters and are currently active - roleplaying, being on the grid, etc - for contributing to the game over others who will come and open a +CGen job when new spots are announced? And what's the reasoning behind either approach?

So far the idea is to handle First Changes, Embraces, and Soul Pacts (inasmuch as "becoming one of the Covers of a Demon" is a Soul Pact's endgame) separate from straight into supernatural CG. So we will see who is interested in the former and take that into consideration when opening slots for the latter. There is no perfect system, but we want to both give new players the chance to come in and also give those who are already playing but want to "upgrade" a chance to do so as well.

This is something I've talked over at length with @Eerie and that I want @Thenomain's opinion on going forward, and definitely something that we'll be working into the six month meeting. But for now, the best way we can come up with is to handle them separately and have them inform each other.

I realize that at the moment the spheres are small. I won't even try to justify it with them 'feeling' small. They are small. Period. And this is something that will change soon, but at the moment we're struggling with some unforeseen issues with the code re: transitions, which is what's holding us back, so to speak.

          A bit of a tangent:

Eldritch is as much a place for you guys to play as it is a place for @Eerie and I to stretch our storytelling muscles as it is a place for @Thenomain to test his new ideas for code as it is a place for me personally to poke at game/MU design.

What does this mean? It means that Eldritch will always be changing, probably, in some way or another, and players should be ready for that! But we're working all the time to igure new things out. Sometimes that means it'll take us a bit longer than it should (coughrenowngadgetsfetishescough), but it's all coming.

I don't think anyone minds waiting on things like Renown while you're overworked as it is. Well, no one sane.

That seems like a good approach to opening up spots. I think you should at least consider offering non-Becoming openings as well to people who're actively playing, simply because they're proven to be active. So if they've been playing a mortal but would consider rolling a new vampire, I think you guys can't go wrong with that.

Conversely, how high is the workload now since (I assume) the wave of game-opening CGen +jobs has subsided somewhat? Do you think sphere slots will open in the foreseeable future?

The workload is different, is the best way I can put it. There is plot stuff going on, and a lot of Aspiration processing, some other types of XP processing (which I wish there were more of) and a lot of XP spends. Apps are chugging along. They aren't superfast, but they don't need to be. Freaky and Sinister are helping lots. I've got the latter working on things like converted Numina lists from 1e to expand the list of available Numina and a Bestiary for animal stats, while Freaky is handling apps and doing great with that.

So the workload is different, heh.

We hired more staffers. This means the game's heydays are over. Time to move on!

An interesting sidebar: I haven't seen a game fail so quickly as when they enforced a status quo.

                    Vampire & Werewolf Opening.

All right, we're re-opening the sphere. We're going to open for another ten (10) apps on Tuesday. A few caveats:

                    • We will NOT be taking reservations. Finish your cg and then cg/submit. Please don't do some bare essentials and then submit with half your cg/check in red.
                    • We could definitely use some Iron Masters, Storm Lords, and anything that isn't Rahu or Hunter in Darkness.
                    • Please remember to read the character generation guides, especially the sections on Touchstones.

We are leaving some room for First Changes once our code can better support them, which shouldn't be long.

You may cg/submit after Tuesday, June 17th, 2015, 10 PM EST. If you submit before, the job will be closed with a reminder!

                    • We could definitely use some Mekhet, Nosferatu, Carthian, and Invictus PCs.
                    • Remember that vamps are limited to 150 years old from birth.
                    • Please remember to read the character generation guides, especially the sections on Touchstones.

We are leaving some room for Embraces once our code can better support them, which shouldn't be long.

Poor Theno. On the bright side, the Embrace should be one of the easiest things. Pick a Clan, set BP 1, do favored attr, assign Disciplines that are not already bought with XP by the ghoul, and be done.

I'd have thought in game Change/Embrace would be fairly simple but I guess not. I'm going to hazard a guess and say it's because of the templates. Both Wolf-Blooded and Werewolf have their own and I suspect the sheet would need to be wiped before it can be switched to the new. Which makes keeping track of all the old stats a royal bitch.

I'm guessing the need to fix that template issue is why Theno is screaming.

@Tennyson Still!? This is the strangest thing and I have no explanation for why its happening to you. Can anyone more skilled at the internets offer Tennyson some insight or, even better, a suggestion about what to do?

Edit to add: I have had no connection issues and nobody else has mentioned having any, so as far as I know this is only happening to Ten.

Is it potentially a reserved port on Windows?

Sigh. I just checked my antivirus and yep. McAfee was saying NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT!

So I've been pounding on the knowledge base. They suggest that you add telnet/simplemu to the exceptions under the mail spam prevention.. only that didn't work. So if anyone has suggestions, I'm open to answers!

I really don't know if it'll work, but have you tried logging in with the IP address, rather than the name one? Whenever I have issues connecting that seems to work for me, anyway.

Yeah. McAfee is kindof insane. WHen I got my new laptop it was the default antivirus, and it wouldn't let me use Chrome or Firefox to connect to the internet due to 'threats to my computer'.

Anitvirus programs are written for non-computer users. Seriously.

If you have a firewall/router between you and your modem, you stop 100% active intrusion. Then all you need to do is be careful what you do on the interwebs. The Microsoft-pushed malware detection stuff tends to stop most everything, and what it doesn't stop, turn on the 'Are you absolutely sure you want to allow <X> to do this?' warnings. There.

That's the breadth of my 'antivirus' regimen for 15 years. I've been malware infected twice, and those were from torrent installations by the cracker team kiddies.

The more 'dangerous' crap out there are the browser add-ons that you get tricked into accepting with installation setups. Java does it, as does a few other 'legit' pieces of software. Why Oracle needs to supplement their income with adware-driven crap is beyond me.

Except those reports every two months saying how your router's firewall can be actively bypassed because of Apparently Cool Feature X, nevermind the inherent network insecurities from The Internet Of Things.
